Just back from BWV...something a little scary happened!

Also _ found strange last week at OKW.....got up at 8:30 am and saw a stack of clean towels and toilet paper on the chair in the living room. Both my kids were asleep on the pull out. That means we didn't hear the knock, nor the kids who could sleep through an earthquake, and housekeeping entered the room while we were all sleeping! I would think if they saw kids sleeping on couch they would leave as fast as they entered. They left the supplies, even coffee as it was our trash and towel day. They even went into the laundry room and left the detergent. Thinking back now, this is odd. It sickens me to think that me and DH slept though someone in the room with the kids while they slept.

Did you have a privacy sign on your door?

I always keep the bolt on and the swing lock over when we are in the room, that way no one can enter. We never seem to have a privacy sign at OKW.

I had wondered the same thing-did you have the door bolted? I would have been totally freaked out if I found things in the room, knowing they were brought in while we were asleep!

When we last stayed at BCV the swing bolt seemed to swing out on it's own when we were leaving the room.At least three times it prevented the door from locking we caught this every time.
I spoke to a maintance worker who said that many were installed at an angle causing this problem.

Always give the door a push before walking away to ensure it is locked

Excuse me while I step up on the soapbox

Automatic door closers have two adjustments for the closing operation.

One controls the "sweep" speed, this is the travel of the door from the fully open position to within 5-10 degrees of the fully closed. This is usually set so the door closes slowly and without a large amount of force so as to not knock people over, just as the OP thought ::yes::

The remaining 5-10 degrees of the swing arc are the "latch" portion, this is so the closing force will be great enough to provide a positive latching of the lock mechanism.

I sold thousands and installed hundreds of automatic door closers in my previous career. My hat goes off to the facilities CM's at WDW, as I have never experienced an incorrectly adjusted one while visiting WDW. While in the outside world I run across at least 2 to 3 a week! Improperly adjusted door closers are a safety/security risk and shorten the lifespan of any openning.

Stepping down now.

We didn't have the bolt on the door. Normally we do, but we must not of that morning. We didn't have a privacy sign in the room that I saw. Only time I have ever used the privacy sign when it is in the room is checkout day so we can pack in piece!!
We always have kids with us so not alot of opportunities for other uses for the privacy sign LOL. Seriously, I think if guests are in room sleeping housekeeping should leave immediately!

I agree. I would not have been happy if the housekeepers came into the villa while my family was sleeping either. Once they saw the sleeping children they should have left immediately. We have had housekeeping leave a bag on the front door handle with the towels, coffee, etc., when we have been sleeping or in the shower etc and did not answer the door, but they have never entered the room. However we always have the bolt lock on so they can't get in anyway. Can you imagine if you or your DH was just strolling out of the shower and went into the laundry room to get something and ran into the housekeeper! I would have freaked out. Did you mention this to OKW's mgmt?

For what its worth never put out the sign "housekeeping please". Your basicaly broadcasting to the world that this room has stuff in it and no one is in the room right now.

You got lucky rhat time but double check when leaving because I had a door not close on me and i caught it before leaving.I recheck my check sometimes.

I couldn't agree more. If housekeeping came in and saw you all sleeping, they should never have come in, let alone put your towels and supplies in the room!

I can't remember if it was at OKW or BCV but once, after a day at the parks, we had returned to our 2 bdrm and one of the kids apparently didn't close the door completely. Who knows how long it was open, but we got a call from security saying that they had noticed the door ajar for some time (I guess through the computer security-door system)and they were checking on it. It made me feel good to know that they were paying attention.
