just back from bcv

I think one thing you do have to recognize is that BCV is a bit of new experience for the people at the front desk. My reservation was nicely screwed up but fortunately my room wasn't ready...when I came back to finish checking in the CM caught the problem on the reservation and they resolved it (I would have been locked out of my room on Monday).

The CM's were friendly every where...I don't remember if I got a welcome home or not...and I don't really care. I did think some of the guests were eyeing me strangely which hasn't happened on previous Disney trips.

One thing that did bother me is more on a managerial level with BC/BCV. It wasn't made clear what benefits are offered to DVC members staying in the hotel. The information packet indicated that the fitness center was available at a discount yet the CM in the center told me it was complimentary to DVC members. It made me wonder what other negotiated benefits there might be a BC that are simply unadvertised.

We were at BCV from July 3-10, right after it opened, and we had a wonderful time. We had a two-bedroom facing the pool and the canal, and thought the view was beautiful, especially at night. You can see a picture of it in my signature. Honestly, I don't remember if any castmember said "Welcome Home", but it doesn't affect me one way or the other whether they do or not. I'm just so excited to be there that not a whole lot bothers me. Also, when we stayed at OKW, the Boardwalk Villas, and VWL, I don't think anyone there said "Welcome Home" either. Anyway, while VWL is my favorite resort in terms of atmosphere, the BCV is wonderful. I took lots and lots of pictures. It is a very pretty resort, and of course, oh so close to Epcot. My kids and their friends and cousins, ages 12-23 loved Stormalong Bay, as did my DH and my brother and SIL. I'm taking my best friend, her DH, and DS there next August. It was a toss up between VWL and BCV, but considering they'll only be with us for five days, I picked BCV for it's proximity to Epcot & MGM, as it will save us some traveling time, and I think her son, who is 16, will love Stormalong Bay. I know alot of people let rude or indifferent castmembers affect their vacations, but to me they are an insignificant part of my trip. Really, other than checking in, I usually have no reason to be involved with them anyway. As far as castmembers in the stores, restaurants, and attractions, in the 17 years I've been going to WDW, I can't think of one incident that stands out in my mind that adversely affected my vacation. Either I'm very lucky or have a high tolerance level, I guess.;)

Well, as a BCV owner, the "Welcome Home" problem is very correctable in my opinion. I'll plan on tracking the names of the CM's who failed to provide a "welcome home" or who are not friendly consistent with my expectations and send those names in a letter to the manager of BCV, asking him to correct the problems.

This is a management issue that can be addressed, appropriate feedback can bring attention to the problem.

the 'welcome home' issue really doesn't even come up on the radar screen for us. We did just get back from VWL, and I did notice that Cast Members across the board did not seem quite as perky, energetic or happy (on average - with some exceptions, of course) as on previous trips. Morale is very important to customer service, and if people are worried that their jobs might be cut if the economy does not improve quickly, it can drag down their morale.

I strongly suspect that once the economy has stabilized, that cast members will be happier and more relaxed... as will many others of us. :D

We have stayed at OKW, BWV, and BCV. The only stay we weren't crazy about was BWV. We had to spend a night in a non-smoking studio, then move to our reserved non-smoking 1 BR the niext day. Had to store our groceries, it was my b-day, it was a mess! Then they put us as far back as you can go, our balcony overlooked the algae pond, we never used it. We still enjoyed our trip, anyway. In general, we don't interact much with CM's at the DVC resorts. They are after all, time-share resorts. So that doesn't affect our opinion. (If you really like interacting with CM's, I'd recommend the cruise!) We loved BCV because of the pools, and having Epcot in our back yard! It's a pretty resort, too. I guess if you love the Boardwalk area, you'd prefer BWV, but we liked the short walk to Epcot World Showcase for dinner, entertainment, shopping, etc. To each his/her own, that's the great thing about DVC! We just got back this week from 5 nights in a 2 BR at BCV - our first trip home - and it was awesome!

Only "glitches" we had were the kitchen light went out the first day, the hairdryer for the 2nd BR didn't work and the coffee maker was missing a piece that prevented it from draining into the pot - but one quick call to housekeeping and all 3 were fixed by the time we returned mid-day from the park. Oh, actually, we did have another "glitch" - we got full housekeeping service the first 3 days. The first day, I wondered if it was because they had come to fix those things. After the 2nd time, I worried and went to tell them at the front desk so I wouldn't be charged. The 3rd time I thought it was trash&towel but my DD said they remade the bed. Oh well, i'm not complaining!

We enjoyed our stay immensely and really love the BC atmosphere. Can't wait to go back. I did only hear "Welcome Home" once, but it is no big deal to me and I found almost all of the cast members as friendly and helpful as could be, and especially to my children.
