Hi Everyone,

Just got back yesterday from eight night stay at BCV. The weather was great. Every day but one in the 70's. Had rain for a short while on Wednesday night at MGM, but nothing major.

We stayed in a 1 BR overlooking Dunes Cove pool. The view was actually pretty good as the parking lot was somewhat secluded by the trees lining the creek and the wing that we were in.

First impressions of the room...it was fairly clean although the floors, especially the kitchen could have been vacuumed or swept a bit better. Saw no mold in the bathroom areas, and the counters, refrigerator and stove were clean.

There were no problems with water pressure or hot water for that matter in the shower, and we were on the fifth floor. Did notice that it appears there are regulators placed on the hot water valves on all the sinks. The water comes out more gently from the hot valve than the cold valve. Basically, the water pressure you'll get is the same as from a Water-Pik shower head.

Also had no problems with the air conditioning. In fact, there times when the room was actually too cool to the point where I had to boost the thermostat up.

We attended MVMCP last Tuesday and thoroughly enjoyed it, although I probably would have had the family photo, and a visit to Santa out of the way before hitting the rides. But then again you were able to get right onto Dumbo, Aladdin, and Philharmagic. Speaking of Philharmagic, definitely make sure you see it. It is everything that everyone has been saying about it. We were also lucky enough to get to see Spectromagic on Monday evening along with a bonus viewing of the Electrical Water Pageant, which passed in front of our ferry boat back to the TTC. The new Wishes fireworks show was terrific. Definitely something you should not miss.

If there was one disappointment in our trip I would have to say it was Illuminations. The last time I was down in '98 I definitely thought Illuminations was the best fireworks show on property. Now, IMHO, I would have to rank it behind Fantasmic, and definitely behind Wishes. When the show ended nobody in my section realized it. Part of it may have been due to the fact that the speakers in our areas were either not working or properly set, so we had a hard time hearing the music. It just seemed to me that there was a great deal of "dead" time during the performance, and I would have to say that I would have spent my time waiting for the show to begin watching the Candelight Processional performance.

One thing I did notice in the parks is that there seems to be less and less character's milling around. It seems as though Disney is now trying to control when you will see characters and when you will not. I guess, in a sense, that this might be a good thing, since you know where characters are going to be and at what time. But, it also takes the fun out of searching them out. For instance, at Epcot the characters rode in on a double-decker London-type bus, and gathered around the World Showcase Pavilion. It sure made autograph seeking and picture taking alot easier, but then again the lines were long as well. Disney does seems as though they are trying to "satisfy" the guests with ample opporotunities for character interaction.

I also noticed that there are now more Disney photographers snapping your pictures with characters, and trying to peddle these photos to you in packages. Not a bad thing, although you can drop a mint on these if you're not careful.

That's about it...any questions about BCV? I'd be happy to answer.

We just got back and noticed the same thing with the characters. Especially at MGM where they now bring them out in a group, and send them back in as a group. It made the lines very long and frustrated my 10 year old. He was not "into" it if there was a long line. Most of the autographs we got were characters we found by accident!

Also, felt the same thing about Illuminations-Very slow, especially when they brought the ball out. It seems it's "old" to me now.

Thanks for the report. I love the theming and location of BCV.

As for Illuminations, I am a little disappointed in what you said. It is my favorite show (that is currently running). In Feb. every park closes at 7 except Epcot at 9. I thought I would get to sneak in 2 or 3 viewings that way.

I disagree about Illuminations; Reflections of Earth. It is my favorite Illuminations show they have ever done. I love the "big bang" theory opening and the beautiful globe with the photos. Of course, the music does make it, and if you couldn't hear the music it would have been pretty dull. I think the fact that there is a lull near the end before the big finale confuses some folks, and they leave before it is done. Here again, the music makes a difference. I keep hopeing they don't change this one!

Glad your BCV experience was good!

Diane,

We didn't leave before the end of Illuminations. Most of us were just standing around after the show was over waiting for something else to happen. When it didn't after a couple of minutes then we knew it was over.

I am not going to disagree with you that there are portions of the show that do show promise, but it was very haphazard in the way it progressed. You'd have a flurry of fireworks, followed by minutes where all you saw was the spinning globe with four-six areas of colored-water spray.

This is just my opinion, but the old Illuminations show where each nation was features was a much better and smoother presentation than the current one. Wishes at MK simply blows this show away.

Judging by the reactions of people around me alot of them felt the same way.

Hi,

Glad you had a good time!!!!!!

We were at WDW last winter and we found characters EVERYWHERE throughout MK, Epcot and MGM. At AK they were not as visible, except when we accidently ran into Pluto and some of the Dino's in Dinoland. We also thought Illuminations was wonderful. I wonder if they changed Illuminations within the past year and if again there are "character cutbacks" so maybe a character meal would be encouraged for character interaction? Just a thought. :D

EPCOT (and Illuminations) is numero uno, hands down, our fam favorite. So.... we take BIL, SIL and nephew to EPCOT and get them all psyched up to see the "greatest show on earth". We find a seemingly good spot, secure it early, and settle in to watch the magic unfold. But it is August. And hot. And humid. THe first fireworks go up -- POW! THe sky is filled with light... and then smoke. Seems the smoke won't rise in this thick August air. THat first firework was the ONLY firework we saw. I said to dh, "Well, at least the smoke isn't blowing towards us..." (from my mouth, to the very ears of Mother Nature -- cough cough). Couldn't hear a single note of the music, either. Positively dismal. We sat huddled in the smoke-laden mist until folks started to move. 2 minutes into our hazy shuffle towards the busses, we hear faint music -- drats, we're missing the ending! Some of the stupider salmon now turn and try to swim against the tide. It was mayhem. BIl and SIL looked at us the whole way back to VWL like we were nuts. Illuminations -- yeah , righhhht. Two nights later we beggggggged BIL and SIL to please go back to EPCOT that night and see the REAL show... but no dice. THey went back to VWL -- and dh, our 3 kids and I went to Illuminations. ANd the smoke went UP, and the music was wonderful, the lasers and fireworks awesome as ever. THey still don't know what they missed, and no amount of us telling them would convince them.

I'd say you too were a victim, at least to some extent, in Illumination failure! You gotta have to whole package -- lights, music, view. Sorry it didn't meet expectation. On the other hand -- if Wishes is touted as being even BETTER than Illuminations, Hot Dawg! Haven't seen it yet but CAN'T WAIT!

I agree, CK1. If the smoke was obliterating everything and you couldn't hear the music, there wouldn't be much of a show to see. We just love this particular Illuminations. They have had this one since 2000, and we keep hoping it wont change. I will say that we often will go to it numerous times a trip. We always check which way the wind is from before settling in. I have been in the smoke path in the past, and it is no fun! Sorry if this got off topic a bit.

Glad you had a great trip!
