Were just back from a great trip to BCV and SSR! We were at BCV for 3 nights 6/16-6/19 & SSR 6/20 & 6/21. I booked the trip last minute in May as a surprise for my kids. Were going through a rough patch in our lives
moving to another state, the kids having to obviously change schools, trying to sell our house, my husband being gone working in the new state 3 days a week. Stress! We picked the kids up on the last day of school and they thought we were going to NY to do stuff for our new house. They were shocked and excited and bewildered because we were really going to Disney World!
Arrived in Orlando at around 6:30pm and Magical Express worked like a charm. We were loaded right on to our bus and were at BCV in no time! I had originally booked 2 nights at BCV and was able to add on a 3rd night just a couple of days prior to arrival thanks to calling day by day for a cancellation. I was a little disappointed when I checked in and learned that we were going to have to change rooms for the 3rd night. Oh well, were in Disney and were going to make the best of this. I plan on not really unpacking our suitcases. Our room was a 2 BR villa 178. While we were thrilled to be at BCV, I have to say that this is quite possibly the worst room at BCV. Its definitely the most unappealing room Ive ever stayed in at WDW, DVC or otherwise. The room is the very last room at the end of the long hallway. I dont like being on the first floor at all I feel like everyone who walks by looks in at you. My husband is even worse than me, therefore we had the heavy drapes pulled 90% of the time. Which was OK, but when you walk out onto your patio, you get to look at nothing but the cars in the parking lot right next to you. Yuck. However, the room was immaculately clean and everything was in working order. I saw NOTHING that would make me thing BCV was going down hill in either my villa or the grounds in general like youd read in some posts here. Everything was top notch, it was our location that was lousy. For our 3rd night, we were now told that we didnt actually have to change rooms, but we could if we wanted to. We decided that the lousy location was better than packing up for one night only to have to move again to SSR for what was supposed to be one night the next day. So we stayed in our first floor/parking lot room. The kids enjoyed Stormalong Bay as they had when we stayed at the Yacht Club in 2003. We ate a Cape May for breakfast on Fathers Day and also ate at Spoodles and the ESPN Zone while we were there. And you have to love the easy walk to Epcot World Showcase which is our absolute favorite park.
Monday morning we pack up and get a cab to SSR, our home resort and the one weve already stayed at for 3 different trips. We were assigned a 2 BR villa on the 4th floor in the 3rd Springs building. When I unpack everything later, Ill get the exact room number I think it was 3411. This room was great. Everything was pristine. We spent the day High Rocks Springs Pool and Artists Palette. Two drinks and 5 hours of floating in the pool later and DH and I decide that 1 night at SSR is NOT enough. Long story short, we were able to change our flights and get a room for one more night at SSR. We, of course, had to change rooms again and now Im really starting to feel like a bag lady. The resort was sold out of 2 BR, so we had to stay in a 1 BR, but we were really only there to sleep, as we spent 12 hours in the parks that day without returning. We missed our huge amount of space, but sleeping wasnt a problem because the 5 year old ends up sandwiched between the 2 of us in the King Sized bed half the time, even when we have sleeping room for 8. LOL. Our second room at SSR was on the 4th floor of the 1st Springs Building. Again, I have to verify the room number. (It was 4430!) Great view of the main pool, Community Center, and Arcade area. Awesome location. We loved the Turf Club for drinks and pool and the Artists Palette. Overall, 4 of us prefer SSR, but the 11 year old son says BCV feels like his home. He loves the pool and closeness to the Boardwalk action. The rest of us prefer the more low key feel to SSR. Ill never change resorts again, especially for a short trip. Id like to plan 10 nights at SSR for next summer with MINIMAL park activity, since after 7 trips in 3 years, Im getting theme parked out, if you know what I mean.
We didnt purchase the dining plan and after watching our eating habits, I realized that we could never have eaten all that food anyway. The DDE card worked AWESOME for us. We used it for 3 trips and definitely got our moneys worth. The same goes for our APs gotta love them! We loved having a later flight out on our departure day. We swam all day and then I showered and blow dryed, etc at the Spa and it was awesome! Cant wait to go back to SSR again, but I am glad we got to experience another resort it made me love my home even more!
