We’re just back from a great trip to BCV and SSR! We were at BCV for 3 nights 6/16-6/19 & SSR 6/20 & 6/21. I booked the trip last minute in May as a surprise for my kids. We’re going through a rough patch in our lives…moving to another state, the kids having to obviously change schools, trying to sell our house, my husband being gone working in the new state 3 days a week. Stress! We picked the kids up on the last day of school and they thought we were going to NY to do stuff for our new house. They were shocked and excited and bewildered because we were really going to Disney World!

Arrived in Orlando at around 6:30pm and Magical Express worked like a charm. We were loaded right on to our bus and were at BCV in no time! I had originally booked 2 nights at BCV and was able to add on a 3rd night just a couple of days prior to arrival thanks to calling day by day for a cancellation. I was a little disappointed when I checked in and learned that we were going to have to change rooms for the 3rd night. Oh well, we’re in Disney and we’re going to make the best of this. I plan on not really unpacking our suitcases. Our room was a 2 BR villa 178. While we were thrilled to be at BCV, I have to say that this is quite possibly the worst room at BCV. It’s definitely the most unappealing room I’ve ever stayed in at WDW, DVC or otherwise. The room is the very last room at the end of the long hallway. I don’t like being on the first floor at all…I feel like everyone who walks by looks in at you. My husband is even worse than me, therefore we had the heavy drapes pulled 90% of the time. Which was OK, but when you walk out onto your patio, you get to look at nothing but the cars in the parking lot right next to you. Yuck. However, the room was immaculately clean and everything was in working order. I saw NOTHING that would make me thing BCV was going “down hill” in either my villa or the grounds in general like you’d read in some posts here. Everything was top notch, it was our location that was lousy. For our 3rd night, we were now told that we didn’t actually have to change rooms, but we could if we wanted to. We decided that the lousy location was better than packing up for one night only to have to move again to SSR for what was supposed to be one night the next day. So we stayed in our first floor/parking lot room. The kids enjoyed Stormalong Bay as they had when we stayed at the Yacht Club in 2003. We ate a Cape May for breakfast on Father’s Day and also ate at Spoodles and the ESPN Zone while we were there. And you have to love the easy walk to Epcot World Showcase which is our absolute favorite park.

Monday morning we pack up and get a cab to SSR, our home resort and the one we’ve already stayed at for 3 different trips. We were assigned a 2 BR villa on the 4th floor in the 3rd Springs building. When I unpack everything later, I’ll get the exact room number…I think it was 3411. This room was great. Everything was pristine. We spent the day High Rocks Springs Pool and Artist’s Palette. Two drinks and 5 hours of floating in the pool later and DH and I decide that 1 night at SSR is NOT enough. Long story short, we were able to change our flights and get a room for one more night at SSR. We, of course, had to change rooms again and now I’m really starting to feel like a bag lady. The resort was sold out of 2 BR, so we had to stay in a 1 BR, but we were really only there to sleep, as we spent 12 hours in the parks that day without returning. We missed our huge amount of space, but sleeping wasn’t a problem because the 5 year old ends up sandwiched between the 2 of us in the King Sized bed half the time, even when we have sleeping room for 8. LOL. Our second room at SSR was on the 4th floor of the 1st Springs Building. Again, I have to verify the room number. (It was 4430!) Great view of the main pool, Community Center, and Arcade area. Awesome location. We loved the Turf Club for drinks and pool and the Artist’s Palette. Overall, 4 of us prefer SSR, but the 11 year old son says BCV feels like his “home.” He loves the pool and closeness to the Boardwalk action. The rest of us prefer the more low key feel to SSR. I’ll never change resorts again, especially for a short trip. I’d like to plan 10 nights at SSR for next summer with MINIMAL park activity, since after 7 trips in 3 years, I’m getting theme parked out, if you know what I mean.

We didn’t purchase the dining plan and after watching our eating habits, I realized that we could never have eaten all that food anyway. The DDE card worked AWESOME for us. We used it for 3 trips and definitely got our money’s worth. The same goes for our AP’s…gotta love them! We loved having a later flight out on our departure day. We swam all day and then I showered and blow dryed, etc at the Spa and it was awesome! Can’t wait to go back to SSR again, but I am glad we got to experience another resort…it made me love my home even more!

Glad you enjoyed your trip! We have been resort hopping on our trips the past few years because we wanted to try out all of the resorts. This last trip we stayed the whole time at BWVs and it was VERY NICE to just stay put in one room. BUT it is still fun to try out different resorts (we usually pay for one night at a regular resort and then move to a DVC resort on points for the rest of the stay). We are going on the Disney Cruise for 4 nights in March and I am thinking of booking the Contempory for one night when we get off the ship (we fly out the next day).

But I have to agree, switching resorts can be hectic, but we always look at it as an adventure. To us, the resorts are just as much a part of our vacation as the parks (and the restaurants--always like to get in a new one each time).

Great Report!! I really enjoyed reading it! Nice to hear that BCV is in great shape!! We havent been there since last June and Im starting to miss it.

I agree!! I think moving looks better on paper when you are in the planning stages, you think no big deal! But once you are there and in the thick of your vacation, your perspective changes and not moving holds more value to you and points don't matter as much as your comfort. That is what happened to us too! We added on to our SSR trip too, but we were there for 12 nights already and still did not want to leave!. We could have downsized to a studio for our last night, but we stayed put in our 1 bdr.
We've decided, we will not switch resorts to save weekend points and our trips that involve 2 resorts will be rare.

My 3 guys prefer SSR too, but we visited OKW and they want to stay there next.

sounds like you had a great time , I dont think I would like moving either but I would do it a 100 times for a few more nites stay. :cool1:

I am glad that you had such a great time, especially in view of the rough road you'be been traveling on. I think it's wonderful that you surprised the kids the way you did!! And then to add on a night, wow!!!

We did have a great time. Now I'm home and in that post-vacation depression. While we were away, my real estate agent left us a message that someone wanted to see our house today at noon. So we get in from the airport at 11:30 last night and I got up at 7:30am today to unpack everything and get the house put together to be in "show" shape and at 11:20am as I'm about to walk out the door to vacate the house for them, the agent calls and said they cancelled and will have to reschedule. GRRRRR! Don't people realize what you have to go through to show your house, never mind if you've just stepped off an airplane at 11:30pm. I am so mad and sooooo depressed. Next week, our house will be on the market for 3 months and not ONE single offer yet. Now I'm faced with moving in August anyway so that I can actually register my kids for school and having to pay a rent and a mortgage. I am so sick over this that I can't even sleep at night.

Great report.

We are hitting a 2 bdrm (1st and most likely only time Points you know) In a few days .

I can't wait I know we will love SSR as we are shoppers and where else to be then DTD to shop.

Great trip report, Laura.

Good luck selling that house! Maybe people will start buying, so they can move during the summer to get settled for school in the Fall. School starts in Aug here so house sales picked up in late Spring and June! If all else fail, bury St. Joseph. People on the community board say it works! :goodvibes

Thanks. St. Joe's been in the ground for 2 months. Now I have a co-worker's "magic house sale pillow." I've had it for 9 days..nothing yet. On the green with envy front: :stir: my BIL and SIL have decided to buy a new house. I'm happy for them, but I'm positive their house will sell in 2 days. Which will be fabulous for them and I love them so I want the best for them, but I'll be the LOSER carrying 2 payments and getting an ulcer. And of course, I'm not moving because I want a bigger house in the same town, I'm moving because I have to for DH's job. :sad2: Well, I guess I did agree to it because I loved the new area.

If it makes you feel ANY better, our old house went on the market 8/05 and we sold it MAY 06! Nothing wrong with it - just a buyer's market...we tried St Joseph...everything. We had already purchased another home and it was scheduled to close beginning of June...just when I was about to give up we got THREE offers!

Good luck I am sure things will work out!

Thanks for the review. You wait, SSR will be sold out soon and become the most sought after property on site. It just has soooooooo much to offer. Thanks for the smiles and the memories.

Great report! I know how you feel about the house too. DH built a house to sell and it has not sold so we are moving in it next month. We just put the house we are living in on and hopefully that will sell or we will be stuck with 2 mortgages...

Good luck to you!
