Here's what we found:

First stop was ASSports.... well, you're on property and have access to Disney's bus system at least. Honestly, the place was clean and we had no problems. But I'd prefer to save a little more and stay someplace else. Just didn't feel any magic here.

Second came AKL.... what a fantastic place! We had booked standard view and were upgraded to a view of Sunset Savannah. Just awesome! We enjoyed watching giraffes, cranes, some form of African cattle (the name escapes me now) and gazelles from our balcony. One night a giraffe laid down near our balcony and stayed for hours. The place is just beautiful, full of Disney magic, and the pool is outstanding! We didn't eat at Jiko or Boma because we were using our "sit-down restaurant" money for character meals. Mara was decent with good pizza, dry chicken sandwiches, but nice selections of fresh fruit. The only thing the place lacks is monorail access, but the busses were fine. Nicest place I've stayed!

Last was Poly.... a very, very nice resort. Monorail access to MK just can't be beat when you have little ones with you. It was worth the extra money to us. The volcano pool and its slide were a ton of fun. The room was fine, balcony view was great (Samoa, room 3106 I believe). We had a view of the Grand Floridian in the distance and of the boat dock. Can't wait to see the place after the remodeling is all done. Definitely not as nice a resort as AKL IMHO (our room and building at the Poly were very nice but definitely show their age), but the monorail makes it worth the price.

The AKL and Poly split was also nice for proximity to the parks. It's great for doing the Studios and AK while at AKL, then using the monorail at Poly for MK and Epcot. Next trip we'll either do the same or we might try doing WL and switching to YC or BC later in the trip. Unless we go DVC first!

All in all, I have no real complaints at all about any place we stayed. The entire trip was wonderful and the only problems we had were those of our own making (We left a swim vest behind at AKL. Called Lost & Found, but they hadn't located it yet. The day after we arrived home, it arrived in an overnight package from WDW. Can't beat that!). AKL was awesome, Poly was very nice, ASSports is fine for a value. Cast members were friendly at each place, mousekeeping did a fine job. Can't wait to go back!

Thanks for the review :) We'll be at the Polynesian in a few weeks, and we'll be checking out AKL when we go there to have dinner at Boma. I think AKL is a resort we will want to stay at, on a future trip.

Glad you had a great time :sunny:

Hi: Sounds like a great trip. Did you ask for an upgrade at the animal kingdom lodge or were you just given it.

Deb.

I'm definitely looking forward to hearing your review, too!! :flower:

We're planning on eating at Boma as well.

Thank you for posting! Sounds like you had a wonderful time.

:cheer2:

ASSports? :teeth: Im sorry I'm... to childish to resist. :sad2:

and maybe a little jealous? :sad2:

Congratulations on a great trip.

thanks for the review. I too thought the Poly was showing its age when we went in May. The grounds are nice but I am definately waiting to stay there when the rooms are redone. Same with CR.

We are staying CSR for free dining but our next trip is going to be a AKL/Beach Club split. I can't wait to stay at AKL!!!! Then after, we wil back to the monorail remodeled resorts.

Thanks

Deb, I was just given the upgrade. Didn't ask. The CM didn't even mention it. We preregistered at about 8:30am and came back later for our assignment. They just told me the room number and we went up to find our surprise. I had already told my wife that I guessed we didn't get an upgrade. It was great!

mamaprincess: Oops! I didn't even notice what I'd typed! Sorry about that, Dis'ers!! :rotfl:

And please don't get me wrong about the Poly seeming aged. The Poly's still a very nice place and I'd stay there again. I stand by what I wrote, but I honestly wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. It's much older than AKL and the Samoa building did look it, but it's still a really neat place.

And the monorail rules!!!

Three weeks ago we were in room 2106 in Samoa!!! I agree about the Poly-great location, but we were not WOWED!!!! AKL is one of the most beautiful places we've stayed. The epcot area is our favorite, though....
