Just returned from a great week at the Marriott Ocean Club resort at Kaanapali on Maui. We reserved a 1 bdrm for 126 points (low season). The one bedrooms are converted hotel rooms so you get two bathrooms but a small kitchen (bar frig, microwave, toaster, no stove). We had a partial view of the ocean and great view of the pool and grounds. Laundry is on the main floor and we paid $1.00 per load. We were also charged a $7.00/day Hawaii tax that surprised us at check-out. But the parking garage was free so we figured we were still ahead.
The resort location was right on the beach at Kaanapali. Not much beach there but an easy walk to Whalers Village and better beaches. Lots of nice restaurants along the Kaanapali strip and in Lahaina. We ate at Ruth's Chris, Cheeseburger in Paradise. and Penne Pasta in Lahaina. We tried Hula Grill at Whalers Village and Mama's Fish House in Paia. They were all very good. Marriott had a Owners Welcome nite with free drinks and appetizers and this turned out to be our dinner for Monday night.
One thing we found very helpful was an activity sheet you could pick up every day at the front desk. It gave the weather forecast, news headlines and the activities for the day at the resort.
The staff was very friendly and we decided to take the 1 hour timeshare presentation for $100 in gift certificates to be used at a variety of nice restaurants. The timeshare sales rep was very low pressure and we enjoyed viewing the new tower they just completed with all two bedroom units. He said we were one of the very few Disney timeshare owners that he knew of that had been able to trade into this resort. It is the most popular trade among Marriott timeshare owners so odds are not in our favor. I traded last October for this month. I'll be happy to try and answer any questions you may have about the resort.

Thanks for the report. Glad the trade worked!

Love Hawaii! I went to the luau at the Marriott and the grounds were very nice. Thanks for the report.

Hi,

Sounds like fun. 126 points. How long was that for?
Looks like that might have been for an entire week, which sounds pretty good.
Any photos?

Thanks,
Steve

HI does have some low seasons if you can travel. Much easier to get an exchange in addition to being lower points. This is what I had from 2005. It can vary year to year and even resort to resort to a degree.

Maui 1-34, 51 & 52 are high, 49-50 is Low for ALL Islands, the rest is Mid
Oahu 1-34, 51 & 52 are high, 49-50 is Low for ALL Islands, the rest is Mid, same as Maui.
Kauai week 1-40 & 51&52 is High, the rest Mid except low for 49-50
Big Island Mid is 1-34 & 41-48, High is only 51& 52 the rest is low

Did I understand this correctly...you put your search request in last Oct 2006 or 2007?

We put our request in October 2006 for December 2007. Not sure if it was necessary but I'm used to planning pretty far ahead for the holiday break.

The stay was for 7 nights. We checked in Friday and checked out the following Friday.

That is SO funny, we had an II reservation for the Maui Marriott for 12/15-12/22 as well, but earlier in the year I had to give it back (turns out that was a very good move as FIL passed away), but we would have been there at the same time! I love the resort location.... I actually think getting the Marriott Ko'Olina is more difficult, but that's my next search...
