We got back from our trip last night, we we at AKL from May 30-June 4th (then went to Cocoa Beach for a few days). We had a GREAT time! We arrived in Orlando on May 29th and stayed the first night at the Grosvenor (yuck) then got up early and checked into the AKL at about 9 am to get our park tickets. There weren't any lines for check-in, just walked right up to the CM. Our room wasn't ready, but when we got back from AK we found out we were in room 5547 which is Zebra trail right where the Arusha Savanna and the Uzima Savanna meet.
First thing I did was open the curtain and what do I see, the PEOPLE PEN! I was a little upset. We were paying extra for a deluxe room and we get a crappy view, so we thought. We were hot and tired from AK (it was about 95 that day) so I thought I would give it a day and see if it was ok and then if we didn't like it, we would switch. Well, we didn't switch rooms, the animial viewing was AWESOME. We had animals outside our room all the time. There were two antelok cattle that stayed right out side our room the entire trip. We always had giraffe, usually 3 of them or more. We saw zebra, wildebeast, bongos, Tommies, all kids of birds and even had an ostrich sleep in our little corner one night. The giraffe slept there every night. I think we saw every animal they had. It was great.
The room itself was good, not overly large, but ok. We had bunk beds, queen bed and a day bed. Our room could have been a connecting room, so the alcove near that door made a great spot to store our luggage. The beds sit high enough off the floor that you could store stuff under there, too. The dresser space was ok. I got all of our clothing in the drawers. There is storage space under the sink area that was a great place to store towels, extra clothing, etc. Under that was an open area that worked out great for keeping dirty clothing out of the way.
Our room was spotless. It was cleaned early in the day, around 10 am or so, so it was clean when we got back from the parks midday. It was very quite and pretty priviate where we were. If we were sitting in the chairs on our balcony we couldn't see any other rooms, standing at the railing, you could see them.
We thought the buses were great. With the exception of one bus, the longest wait we had at AKL for a bus was 8 minutes (we timed our waits just to see). The one wait was 25 minutes, but the bus that was suppose to come broke down, so it wasn't a big deal. We had one bus the entire time where people had to stand, other then that, there were always empty seats.
The CM's were nice, no crabby ones, but I wasn't overly impressed with the service. It was good, but not outstanding. I hearded for years about Disney being the benchmark for service, it wasn't any better then other nicer resorts we have been to. Overall, it was a great resort!
