We got home Wed. from 17 nights at Tropical Palms and we loved it. Last visit we stayed at Ft. Wilderness and paid almost $100 more a night and now I feel foolish. The cabin we had at TP had 2 bedrooms and a loft for 2 kids so we all had a room. The kitchen was the same set up as FT. W and the deck was bigger at TP. There is no maid service at TP unless you ask for it, you get clean linen at the front desk as needed. There is no outdoor grill at TP but we never used the one at Ft.W anyway. The pool at TP was vey nicy and so clean, ther is also a good sized kiddie pool with a waterfall thing in the middle. There is also a pool side restraunt and on Saturdays there was live music at the pool. The grounds were very well kept and there were paths and ponds and outdoor picnic places. We were very impressed and for $79 for the 2 bedroom and $59 for the studio with a loft it was a beautiful, peaceful place to stay, and we made it to MGM in 7 minutes. Perfect place for bigger families on a budget. I will be happy to answer any questions,

Christine

Thanks for the report!

How far is it to the other parks? Where can you park your car? Is it a big place like FW?

It was about 10-15 to the other Disney parks and about 15-20 minutes to US and IOA. There is parking either right at your cabin or just a short path away,(30 steps max.). The set up is that the marketplace and office ar as you drive in then the pool and laundry are just behind that and to the right. The right side of the road are the RV spots and the left are the cabins. There are about 80-90 cabins. They are set up either in a group of four centering onto a little courtyard or lined up on the road. At the far end of the resort are the banquet hall and pond. Palm trees are everywhere, even in the middle of the roads, very tropical feel. The staff are very nice and helpful, one man showed us to our cabin in a thunderstorm at midnight and offered to come in and help us with our luggage. hope this answers you questions, it is quite a bit smaller than Ft. W. you can walk front to back in about 5-7 minutes. It is just behind Old Town but it is far enough back that you would never know anyone was there.

I was just reading my Orlando Info packet and came across this place. Looks and sounds great! It's near Swan & Dolphin isn't it?

I don't know about it being close to the Swan and Dolphin, it is off site. I think it is closest to MGM or maybe DTD.

We stayed there for two weeks in Sept. of 2001 and loved it as well!! So nice to come back to a "home" after a long day at the parks..

I'm wondering if this time of year is more crowded down there though as it never took us more than 5 minutes to get to any of the Disney parks..

Did you get to see the armadillos wandering around? That was one of the best highlights of our trip!! :)

GREAT place for so LITTLE money!!!!!!!

Everyone knows that armadillo's don't walk around......

they just lay in the middle of street imitating a pancake......:earseek:

That's pretty amazing, to see an armadillo on the hoof.

This is a neat place to stay. It's kind of nice to get out of the
busy-ness you find even at FW. Our kids seem to unwind a little easier when staying offsite.

Hi , I am doing some research for March 2004 ,Do they have a restaraunt on site??? or are they close by - do tell where you ate .. Thanks Michelle

There is a poolside restraunt that is open for breakfast and lunch. We ate most of our meals at the cabin, that was a big reason for staying there, the kitchens are very well equipped. There are all kinds of restraunt chains out on the main road, about 2 blocks away, and an A&W in old town just outside the gates of Tropical Palms. If you have any other questions please ask, we loved our time at TP, even more that the time we stayed at Fort Wilderness on site.

Ok you said I could ask more so here goes..
**Does the kitchen have pots and pans - like for hamburger/hotdogs and spag. or mac and cheese?
**How old are your kids - did you let then sleep in the loft ? mine will be 10 and 7 - should be fine up there for them and I can have a bed all to myself !!
**Is the grocery store close by ? or at least easy to get to ? I know on the road w/ the markers there is a Super Wal mart at like 13 14 or 15 ?
**the pool is it just a regular square one ? is it heated ?
**Can you walk to old town ? or shoping ?

Think that does it for now..- I am thinking of 3/26 to 3/31 as our schools are on break and the One bedroom is showing for $79 friday/saturday nights and $69 sun/mon/tue !! Thanks Michelle

Read this post and it gave me the boot I needed to start planning for next spring....I love when that happens

Sorry it took so long for me to reply, I am getting ready to have our new friends from the Disney cruise come to dinner, we met in May, they are from PA. To answer your Questions, Yes the loft is great for that age my two that stayed up there were 5 and 7, we also have a 10year old and a 9 month old, we had plenty of space. There is a grocery store very close, if you leave TP and continue straight through the lights through that busy street it is just a block or so. You could even walk there if it weren't so hot. The kitchen had a great set of pots, pans, dishes, cups, colander, bowls, even some plastic bowls with lids for leftovers, and a cookis sheet and lasagna pan. The pool is not just a square, I have no idea if it was heated, it was so hot when we were there. There is also a great kids pool with a waterfall feature. There is a playground, pond, and lots of walking trails. The grounds are very nice, palm trees growing up through the street, lots of flowers and wildlife (but nothing scary, gross, or bothersome). Hope this helps feel free to ask if anything else comes up.

Ooops! Sorry I forgot your Old Town Question, yes you can very easily walk there with one leg tied behind your back. It is just about 1/2 block from the end of TP's driveway. If you do feel like walking there is a 7-11, souvienere store, Wal greens and probably some others not too far (less than a mile). It is also right off the street where you turn to get to Celebration which is fun to go through.
Christine.

Christine , thanks for the info - it seems like a great value - hopefully they will have some discount on car rentals so that it works in my favor to stay off site ( not that I don;t love on-site but you know its all ruled by the ol'mighty dollar ) Michelle
