Just back from our first trip to Boardwalk Villas. We arrived Wed. 05/12/04 at around 3:45pm at the Boardwalk. Fl. Tours picked us up at MCO and we did the grocery stop at Publix prior to arriving at the resort. We were assigned our room immediately. We had room 2117, a one bdr. std. view. Room 2117 is on the same level as the lobby, so no elevator trips were necessary to arrive at the room. It was a decent walk to the lobby, but not bad at all. There was also a stairway a couple of doors down from the room. When we investigated, it brought us out at the quiet pool and Community Hall. A great location.

The view from this Std. room was fantastic. We overlooked the bridge across the canal and there is a water spray feature in the canal that is also lighted at night. We could look to the left and see the lighted “Boardwalk” entry to the resort. We were also able to view the high fireworks from Illuminations, as we found out the first night. The room condition was very good. Showing some signs of use, however in good condition overall. The room was also clean. (Just some info for the detail readers in the group! :) )

We did have the pipe replacement in the hall outside our unit during the time we were staying. Don’t worry about it if it happens while you are staying. The only thing that were heard while there was a drill and saw being used a couple of times. If you need to drown that out for someone trying to take a nap, do a load of clothes. The washer and dryer are loud enough to create white noise for napping. The TV works too. The workers were also very pleasant and would make sure to be very aware of guests coming up and down the corridors. They also had placed some vinyl covering over the carpets in the hall to protect them from some of the dust created from working in the ceiling of the halls.

Although not our first trip to WDW, it was our first experience in a DVC unit. Once we settled into it, we absolutely loved the convenience of having a kitchen, laundry and best of all whirl-pool tub. That tub was used while we were there. I had purchased some of Basin’s bath bombs (not bubble bath, more like bath effervesce instead) online and brought them down. I definitely recommend this thing after walking around the resorts all day. It’s great to relax in the tub and let it work out some of the kinks from the day. We had breakfast in the room every day except one. We also had sandwiches a couple of times too. It was nice to have the option to cook, if wanted. I really only used the stove a couple of times in the morning for breakfast. However, I can see using the kitchen for more meals in the room for some trips in the future. I can say that I did not miss having housekeeping daily in the room. We used the dishwasher extensively and washed towels daily. From reading the DVC board, I brought extra laundry detergent and also the dishwasher tablets. I also brought my own sheets for the bed. It’s easier to make the bed with fitted sheets. Also a tip I read on the DVC board. :)

We no longer do commando touring at WDW. We love the Flower & Garden Show, it’s one of our favorite events to attend at WDW. This year was no exception. Beautiful as ever. We also enjoyed the Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom this trip. We spent most of our time at Epcot. We would spend some time each morning touring and the afternoon at the resort. Then the evenings mostly at Epcot. We went to Seaworld this trip. Although we don’t go every trip, we enjoy Seaworld every three years or so. Seaworld was in great shape and beautifully landscaped. The shows are the highlight of the day and there is a “baby” Shamu this year! We were going to go over to Saratoga Springs to check it out, but we just ran out of time. Since we are going back in November, we will make sure to check it out then. The view from downtown Disney is quite impressive. I look forward to reports from those lucky Dis DVCers that will be staying there shortly.

Well, if you are still with me at this point, thanks for reading about my impressions of DVC. I can now say that I do not regret my purchase of DVC in the least! I didn’t think I would after all the research and reading of the boards here. You guys are great at sharing information. Thank you!! If you have any questions, I will do my best to answer.

Thanks so much for the report. We can't wait for our first trip 'home' this August. So glad you loved it. Did you use a car or the bus system? If you did use the buses, how was it? When I called dining this morning to book Donald's for breakfast in August, the CM asked where we were staying. Told her BWV and her exact words were..."Oh...., 9 whould be the earliest I would suggest. Otherwise you might not make it from BW.' Oh my!!!

Thank you Mary Jane, I enjoyed reading your trip report, and look forward to our first visit at BWV later this year.

Hi Goofy4tink,

I used the busses a few times. The Animal Kingdom bus the one morning I went arrived around 8:15 and we were at the Park by 8:45. The BW, Swan & Dolphin were the only ones an that particular bus. But, I think it was a special sent out for that trip.

Busses usually start running about an hour before the Parks open. But, if you are not renting a car, there are taxis that are usually parked at the resort. You could at least use it for an early am trip to your breakfast and just take the bus back to BW. The valet can call one for you, if one is not already at the BW. I did use a taxis twice this trip. Once from the Polynesian back to Boardwalk. The meter was $12.00 and I gave the cabbie $15.00. The other time we were at DTD and we didn't feel like waiting for the bus back to BW. The driver charged us $7.00 and I gave him $12.00. Still cheaper then renting a car for the week.

Have a great trip!!

I'm also new to this board (been on the other boards a lot but never this one), and I'm considering buying into DVC, (more like I've made up my mind and just waiting to get the cash for the deposit) and I'm interested in hearing about housekeeping schedule, do they have it at least once during your stay or how does that work? Glad you had such a positive first visit! TIA

Thanks for the trip report! We love BWV standard view rooms - great location for points value!! :)

Mary Jane...thanks for the great report and for taking the time to share your impressions. It's a great feeling looking around those accommodations and knowing you're all set for 38 (or 50) more years!! Glad you had a great trip. :)

Really enjoyed reading your TR!

Really looking forward to our first DVC stay!

Wow, reading your report made me feel like I was there! We have stayed in room 2117. We love the proximity to the quiet pool.

As a BWV owner it is always so nice to read a great report. It brings back such great memories. We generally book the standard views when we can and have never been dissappointed. Unfortunately our next trip is not until December. Glad you had a great time.

Depending upon your length of stay, you will get a "trash and towel" day, which dumps the first and replaces the second. I think you have to stay at least 4 days to get that. If you stay long enough, you also get a full cleaning, and then they alternate every 4 days.

You can also opt to pay for regular housekeeping daily for a fee.

Hi msr709,

As CRobin stated, there is housekeeping depending on your length of stay. I was there for 7 nights, on the forth day (Saturday) housekeeping came to the door to do the "Trash & Towel" routine. They would have replaced all the towels with clean, removed all the garbage and replenished any paper products (toilet tissue, paper towels, facial tissues). They would also replace any dishwashing liquid/detergent, laundry detergent and cleaning sponge. They also fill up your complementary coffee, sugar, cream (of the granulated variety) and sweetners supply.

I honestly had forgotten about "Trash & Towel" day and had already put the towels in the washer about 5 min. before the housekeeper arrived at my door. I didn't need any other supplies and had been taking trash to the trash room daily. I thanked her and sent her on her way. I did leave a nice tip for Housekeeping at the end of my stay because they do have to do a thorough cleaning after we leave.

If we had a visit of eight nights or longer we would have received a full cleaning (includes all listed for T&T, plus clean unit & replace bed linens) on day four and then a "trash & towel" on day eight. (I looked this up in the Member Guide)

We were two adults visiting and as I said we did not miss the daily housekeeper visits. I did use the vacuum once, but only because we were having friends drop by that evening to check out BWV. They own at OKW and I wanted to make sure the unit looked as nice as possible. They were impressed and really liked the location and layout of the unit. (Even though it's smaller than OKW 1bdr unit;) )

Good luck on your future purchase of DVC. Make sure to fire away with any questions you have as you go along. Many on this board are very experienced and will be happy to help you out.:)

Thanks so much for your reply. I intend to stay only 4 days at a time because I split my stay b/w WDW and USO so I guess no housekeeping for me. I didn't see any washer/dryer in the studios, are there units somewhere else? TIA

There are laundry rooms at each of the DVC resorts. At BWV, the laundry room is located on the first floor, near the elevators. When exiting the elevators, turn right and right again along the corridor. The door to the laundry room is a short distance down on the left. Use of the machines is free, but you must supply your own soap (and softener/dryer sheets).
