Just Back - A Few Thoughts

We just got back Friday after 8 days at WDW. We were lucky enough to experience all 3 of the new rides/attractions. My thoughts on these:

Soarin' - Was great, my 6 year old DD said "lets do it again" right after we got off. They told us that we were the 16th group to go on it, so that was very cool. They also told us that the queue was built to handle lines that are 3 or 4 hours long, so definitely try for Fastpasses.

Cinderellebration (sp?) - personally, I liked the old show better, but my wife said it was really a girly show and both my DDs loved it.

Lights, Motors, Action! - Great show, incredible stunts, thought it really fit the theme of Disney-MGM Studios well, but I also saw the Indiana Jones Stunt show for the first time this trip and I enjoyed it more.

My thoughts on being at WDW for my first spring break. The crowds on the 18 - 19 weren't bad but they just kept building once the spring break week started. Disney countered this well I thought with having MK open at 7 AM all week. We actually were there at 7 AM Tuesday and from 7 to 8 we rode everything in Fantasyland. We were doing so well that we even decided to take a break for breakfast that day and used the PS I had at the Crystal Palace for 8:10. From 9 to 11 things weren't too bad and we stayed in the park until 4 that day before heading back to Wilderness Lodge. I will say that 7 AM was a little early, as evidenced by me falling asleep on the Carousel of Progress (a ride I usually like), one minute we are in the 1920s, then next we are in the future! My DW said I snored too, how embarrassing.

We went back to MK on Thursday the 24th and I couldn't kill everyone getting up to be at the park at 7 again, so we made it there at 8 instead. The crowds were not bad until about 10 and then they kept building and building. And I kept grabbing fast passes. This time we took a break in the middle of the day and went swimming, coming back for dinner and hoping to see Spectromagic and Wishes. Well that was when the size of the crowd finally hit me. There was no way to get anywhere near the Spectromagic route, so we decided to wait and see where we could settle for Wishes. It was even worse by then, there was no using Main Street and they opened up the backstage area to get from Tomorrowland to the entrance of the park. We decided to high tail it out of the park and watched Wishes from the boat back to the Wilderness Lodge (which wasn't a bad thing).

Would I come back for Spring Break? Yes, in a heartbeat. I enjoyed the weather so much, I only really felt too hot one day, Tuesday, the rest of the time it was so perfect. We even had to buy coats our first day in the parks because we were too cold. We will go back again in 2 years for Spring Break(we are doing a Disney Cruise in 2005). It just takes a lot of planning and either getting up very early or staying up very late to get to do all the rides you want. Also Fast Pass is great.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Thanks for the info. Nice details.
I could see where getting to the parks at 7 would knock you down by mid-day. With 3 girls, we would have to start at 5 to get ready for that. Then to have the energy to go all day is just not going to happen with the yougans  .

We are really looking forward to catching Soarin' :Pinkbounc

Were they doing 2 spectro magics? Which one were you trying for? We are planning on going to MK on Wed for late for EMH this Wed, but what time do we need to get there to avoid this spectro crowd. We want to go into the park and ride not stand on main street.

We were trying for the 8 PM Spectromagic. Things might be a lot for the 10 PM one after the fireworks, but I am not sure as we never made it that late. Someone was in the pool with us one day and they did the Midnight to 3 AM EMH and said they had a great time and no waits.

Goofy Dad--did you ever go mid June? If so, how did the Spring Break crowds compare to then? I'm nervous about our June trip! We can't wait to do MK EMH though!

GoofyDad,

What time did you do Soarin'? Did a CM approach you, did you see a line or did you just happen by?? ;)

We're hoping to get a chance 4/5, but we'll see.... :goodvibes :goodvibes

Glad you enjoyed your trip!!

Thanks for the great trip info. We usually go the first two weeks in December when there are very few people there except on the weekends. This past December we were able to walk on everything without any wait. We were at WDW during Spring Break in 2001 and had a great time.

NIce Trip report.
7AM, wow. I think I might be able to do it the 1st day, but after a day at the parks, the next day, I would be out of it. :)

Regarding Soarin', we were headed over to get on Figment and noticed a line outside of it on the far side of the land pavillion (which is blocked off). I didn't want to get my hopes up too high, but I told my wife that it might be the Soarin' line. And sure enough, when we got there, that is what it was.

The last time I was there in June was 2002 when the crowds were a little down, but I was there last July and Spring break was a much, much larger crowd.

I did make a change in my schedule on the fly to try to help with the early mornings. I knew I was going to MK two of the last three days so I moved my schedule around to do AK (with an early night) on Monday, MK very early morning on Tuesday, took Wednesday off and hit the pool and went shopping, Thursday early morning at MK again. It worked pretty well.

Sounds like you had a great time and used good "time-saving" ideas, (falling asleep on COP is just plain cute, appropriate, but cute)!!! Also, just flowed with the week and made the best of it all. Thanks for the review!!!
