Just a thought about reopening...

I am not sure if Disney would be comfortable with everyone wearing masks.
Not a far leap from masks to costumes.
Sadly I think reopening will depend on there being less f a threat than requiring every guest and CM to wear masks.
That would mean even face characters would be masked .
No hugs etc for pics.

I think it will be masks reccomended but not required... and yes disney will make their own line of masks to sell.

Well I guess if you have to wear a mask a Disney mask would be the way to go while at WDW. I ordered fabric and elastic to make masks for myself and my family since I don't seem to be able to buy them. I had to order both the fabric and elastic online, the fabric stores in NJ are either closed or only doing curbside pickup and the stores don't seem to have any elastic available, had to get from Amazon.

I almost started a thread on this, but this may be one of those things better slipped in somewhere than poking everybody in the eye with it. :D

Can Disney require people to wear masks in its parks? I get the whole private property thing, yada, yada, yada, but at the end of the day, that's an invasion of personal privacy. I'm not sure it's a rule that would even be enforceable, but I'd love to see the discussion. I'd remind you this isn't a question of ought to v. not. It's a question about whether they can even make/enforce such a rule.

They can make it a requirement of entering their parks. Just like they cannot make you cover up a t-shirt covered in swear words, they can deny entry into their parks unless you do so.

Yes I think they could just like businessses can require you wear shirt and shoes or even my local six flags that says no swimsuits allowed ooutside of the water park. No real different IMO.

Yes, they can deny you entry to the parks if you don’t meet the requirements to do so,

There could also be a recommendation that comes out of the government that says they can open providing that is a requirement.

As mentioned, they have certain codes already in place so this would be nothing different.

Masks, such as surgical or procedural masks, do not protect you from the disease. It protects others from you spreading the disease from you to them. You need to wear a respirator with a tight seal to protect you, especially if you have other medical conditions that make it easier for you to get the disease (and in that case, you'd be better off staying home). So you only need to wear a mask if you are active with the disease. There are so many people who just don't understand the reasoning behind the masks. People are going to be passing out if they have to wear an N95 respirator around the theme parks in hot/humid Florida weather.

Well, if you know you're active with the disease, you probably should be someplace else besides a theme park. It's the people who have the virus showing no signs of being sick that are one of the biggest risks. And unless you're tested before you enter the park, you won't know that. Wearing the mask is a small level of protection for 'others'. And it doesn't have to be a medical mask to help - the cloth ones will reduce risk. Prevent? No. Reduce? Absolutely.

Masks have been common in the Asian parks for years. I'm not sure I see why folks don't believe it will happen in the US locations.

Because this is the US and I don't think people will stand for it. Color me skeptical. I won't do it and I know a lot of other people that won't either. "But Wilson, then they won't get in the parks." Yeah. We'll see about that when Disney figures out the dollars lost associated with it.

I can't see wearing a mask for hours on end walking around a theme park in the heat, humidity and rain that Florida gets. I think I'd rather stay home and save my money.

Now if I was a local and was just going to drop into the parks for an hour or 2 maybe I'd feel different.

They absolutely can require people to wear masks on property because it is private property. I would assume that if you didn't comply, they would kick you out just like they would for many other things you could do which are against the rules. I fully understand why Disney would want every adult to wear a mask because that would greatly decrease the chance of a virus breakout on property which is probably what they are trying to avoid at all costs.

In the end, I don't think they will force people to wear masks because it would probably fall on Disney to supply those masks.

Personally, I don't think I would make a trip if I was required to wear a mask in addition to all the other restrictions that will probably be in place. I definitely wouldn't want to pay to go in to parks which are a shell of their former selves. I'll probably try to wait it out until things are basically back to normal.

I don't know why you think this would be the case. They require me to wear a shirt, shoes, and leg coverings every time I visit, but have never offered to provide any of those to me at no cost.

I think this would be the case because masks are in short supply, especially they kinds of masks that would also significantly alter the spread of this virus. Disney has the resources to source a large amount of masks. A general member of the public may not be able to easily find a mask right now. Shirts, shoes and leg coverings are in stock everywhere in the world. They are not hard to come across.

I think that if Disney required masks but didn't supply them, you would have a decent number of people show up at the gates without masks who didn't know that was the rule. These people would then get upset because their only option would probably be to buy a mask from Disney at a significant markup. That equals a lot of unhappy patrons.
