mky...sorry about the pool situation. Not the best situation, but maybe many won't swim then? Hope you are 100% soon.

It is even colder this weekend and we are do to get a big storm tomorrow into Tuesday. ICK!!! Here we go again:headache: too cold already is right.

Boys are excited as the girls are. DL11 is putting together some clothes:rolleyes1

We did get dining:goodvibes we have a sit down each day and I was even able to get a sleigh ride at the WL:woohoo: should be a blast!! Been fun planning a trip in the dead of winter only 3 weeks out. EPCOT was an issue, but EPCOT is an issue anyway...hard to find a place to eat there for me with my allergies so we will do counter service for the boys and yummy French treats for DL11 and I. ;) Did the rest of the packing today. As soon as I booked the air fare I was washing short sleeve Disney shirts:laundy: :dance3:

My foot seems really bothered by the cold this year. I bought some croc boots and they work great to keep with going through the snow so it doesn't bother me as much.

EE22: 12 DAYS!!!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

MKY: Glad you are at least starting to feel better. I don't know what to tell you about the pool closings. I think that I would switch to POR, with no construction, and save the money to go back again. You can hire a private limo to wait for you each day instead of using Disney transportation to give you more of the deluxe feel.:rotfl: They have you cornered because I read that there is also construction on Stormalong Bay. So no deluxe pools this winter? That does not sound right. Or maybe the low occupancy is seen more at the higher end resorts so they figure they will have less guests staying that will be inconvenienced. I would switch to someplace that has no construction going on. The last thing you want to deal with is being inconvenienced on vacation.

Tomar: We got the cold weather and snow too. I hate it and would love to be in the sweltering heat of Florida summer right now.

Car rental is way down now:woohoo: :woohoo: thank goodness!
It was getting better, but now it's very reasonable.

From what my friend said over Thanksgiving, the resorts were NOT full at all. CR was available for 50% off when she was there. I saw on the Jan code watch thread that someone called off their trip. I'm sure there are more too:sad2:

2003 is when they closed POFQ so nothing would surprise me that's for sure.

EE22: Wonder how far in advance she got Cont for 50% off?

My SIL just got back last night but I did not get to talk to her yet.

It was for Thanksgiving night. They asked in the lobby for a room for his mom and they were 50% off rack rate.

Things are not good at Disney! I think that guy is chewing on the comment about families going to Disney rather than buying a new fridge!!

We had a big ice storm last night. Here we go again. We are home today. No snow days before winter break in years!

There is a rumor that they are going to offer free dining with the 4 for 7 deal for the second half of the year. I can't imagine but it would be nice.

Ice storm.:scared1: It has been VERY cold here, like 24 degrees but they are saying that the temperature is going to rise tonight to 50 degrees and tomorrow we are going to have thunder storms. Talk about crazy weather. In the meantime, my second refrigorator is in the garage and when the temperature goes below 30 degrees it kicks off. My inside fridge is stuffed to the gills and I can't find a thing.

Now it's snowing like crazy. DD is suppose to have a game tonight so that should be interesting. In town, so who knows what they will do.

Disney will have to do something to get people there. They offer free dining otherwise in August so the deal would have to be GOOD to draw people there. The jobloss rate is huge! It would be interesting to run the numbers for us.

I made our SSR ressie for the summer! 100 Developer Points! free stay...not really, but then we go to AKV...wonder if it would be cheaper to stay with Disney and eat their food for free. We already will have tickets from this December trip though so running those numbers would be very tricky!

They changed the hours for when they are there. They normally open at 7 am for EMH but now they are opening at 8 am and staying open an hour later at night. I would imagine it's a bigger draw for the evening hours to make it worth it to stay open.

EE22: Yes the evening hours are always worse than the morning as far as crowds go. In the morning, you have the park to yourself but at night (have you ever been?) it is an absolute mad house. Makes total sense for them to do it. The dining plan would cost us over $1900 for the 2 weeks, probably about the same for you because you are 4 adults, we are only 3 adults and 2 kids. It works out for the kids but the adult price is way too high.

I figure Disney thinks staying open at night will bring in more cash spending:goodvibes We have never done a late EMH. DL11 keeps asking...perhaps with such a short trip and wanting to get our fill we'll go for it. Both kids want to be at AK late and there is an EMH there till 11 pm. I keep thinking...oh, it's a short bus ride to AKL...opps...WL!!

We spend a lot on dining and with the up charges during our timeframe this summer, it could save us a bundle. However, I would imagine June/July won't have huge discounts like Aug and Sept. But, who knows. 2003 had great deals.

Dining can be added with ap rates too but I'm not sure that they offer free dining with ap. Do you know?

Of course I don't know for sure but form history I have always read that AP holders buy a one day base ticket to get free dining but then hold onto the base ticket and apply it towards their next AP purchase or upgrade the ticket. I guess Disney gets the money up front but you will have it for a future trip. Not to bad if you wind up with free dining.

Good info. However, as you know 1BRs are expensive! Not sure it would work out for us. I'd have to figure what we'd pay for food and run the numbers!

That is always the way with all the packages. So many people just say oh, good deal and book but in the end they are paying more than if they booked seperately. I priced out what we would pay OOP if we ate at every sit down we wanted and factored in the price of CS, we were over $1600. That did not include a sitdown for everyday. DH wanted me to figure the cost if we got the 4 for 7 with free dining verse a good room discount. It came out almost even. The difference would be the flexability with the DP and knowing everything was paid for ahead of time. I don't think we will be changing our room though because with the ASFS, we get 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Can't get that in most other places at a decent rate.

We would have to have a huge room discount along with free dining for it to pay for itself. The rooms at AKV for a 1BR are $560 per night. Even two regular rooms would be huge and then I'd have to figure what we put out for dues for the year and subtract that.

$560 per night is crazy money. They should include food and tickets for that price. My goal is to always to keep the trip between $250 and $275 per day. That is inclusive of food, tickets, and the room. We always manage to do it but spending that much on the room is a budget breaker.

TP2- that is why (I believe) ...alot of folks that had the deposit (including the Tomars;) ) a while back...opted to buy into DVC  ...for us.....it made alot of sense to invest in the place we wanted to go on EVERY vacation......forever !!:cloud9: Spending points is alot better sounding ...than forking over 560.00 cash a night to Uncle Walt... :rotfl: ;)
OKAY...........
Would you believe that tomorrow is supposed to be in the HIGH 50`s here in New Jersey....OMG:eek: ...this is definately pneumonia weather in our neck of the woods TP
Take off the scarf ...and boots again ....

Tomar: DH said that if we ever win Lotto he will buy me DVC to live in all year long.:goodvibes I guess we will always end up staying value because I would have to give up time in order to stay anywhere at that price point. It is okay though.

The weather is making me crazy. I keep changing from sweatshirts to down jackets. Some days hats some not need. It has been nuts and you are right about the pneumonia, people here are already pretty sick. Everyone is coughing everywhere I go. Just in time for the holidays, right.
