mky...I know Tomar is sending a box and so am I. I would NOT send it via the usps...send it UPS!! I will see how it goes. I'll keep you posted on that. Tomar doesn't have issues.

I'm sending things I can do without just in case on this first dry run.

You think you're having issues! I have a family of 4 for 11 days to pack in 3 suitcases! We get ONE bag each and one of them is for bathroom supplies.

Here is a Question...do you think those MBTs will go through security okay? What are the soles made of...any idea?

And, for anyone that knows...are all the refillable mugs the same at all the resorts? Didn't know if we should wait to buy ours till we went over to AKV because we will only be at the BC for one day.

I'm at TEN!

I have guilt though getting ready given what's going on so close to us.

MKY: We shipped 2 boxes the year we stayed at CSR. Everything worked fine with it, it went to Bell services. Only problem we had was that the hotel computers had gone down the day of our arrival and we had to switch rooms so they held the boxes until our second day and then they had some confusion because of the arrival date posted on the box. Everything was fine in the end just not completely smooth. I would think that under the circumstances they will be receiving a lot of boxes. When I traveled for work we always shipped our stuff to the hotel and back to the office. Made travel so much easier. Just make sure you label the boxes 1 of 4 or however many you have.

EE22: Don't feel guilty. You deserve a trip and a chance to get away. You have been through enough to deserve a vacation.

Hey EE22!

I am still planning on shopping for all those kinda things (shampoo etc..) & we will do laundry a few times, just I am a clothes horse. We will be down for 18 nites, so need a lot of stuff. Thinking about shorts, extra shoes, something "heavy". We each get 1 suitcase and its 50#. Since we are in the united group flying before aug. 18th. (we come home on the evening of the 16th). When I mailed a box to Poly, about 3 or 4 years ago> it was at the front desk, and all the cm's said "oh, that big box in the back is yours" (roll eyes here) and then the production of bring it out. I was sooooooooooooo embarrassed. I thought it would be with the valet, but they didn't put it there. They told me for 5 minutes, of all the space it took up. :scared1:  It wasn't even that big, it had 2 packed duffle bags in it. :confused3

My mbt's better get through the gate. They are quite the stir at work too. Everyone notices them and "where do you get them ...." till they hear the price. So far to me the Cost is sooooooooooooooo worth it. 2 tennis shoes and 1 sandle > priceless.:lovestruc :wizard: The sole I think is mush. Or soft rubber of some kind?

Refillable mugs> I think they talked about a "disney" mug > but think it still is resort orientated, and I would wait for the akl one. Although you might not need it with the coffee pot etc.. . in the room. What kind of room are you getting at akl? studio, 1br, or 2br? Sorry not up on dvc points etc...

You sound a little better today. Good luck, packing and planning, mky:cutie:

MKY: Maybe that is why they looked at you funny.:rotfl2: I always used boxes that were like the size of a case of paper. You know, like filing boxes. I guess they stack easily and fit on the shelves well in bell services. I did not use luggage with the boxes either, just put my stuff in the box. Anything nonessential and bulky. Like umbrellas, sweatshirts, shoes, etc. I always carried in my carry on enough clothes for 3 days, but the smallest of the clothes I was bringing. Like a dress instead of pants and shirt. I never carried toiletries other than deoterant and toothbrush and paste. Always relied on the hotel to provide. And I wear my heaviest/biggest shoes and pack the small ones in a box and ship. The box is insured in case it gets lost. I pack so much more to go to Disney and when I travel with family but when I would travel for work it was always the minimum. You really don't need that much if you put your mind to it. Of course when you pack for Disney it is fun to shop for stuff and you end up with more than you need. I guess this is what the airlines are trying to avoid.

Thanks TP2:love:

mky:cutie: ...my only concern with my box is that AKL has two different addresses that they give out. One is for Bay Lake and the other Lake Buena Vista so I hesitate a tad. I wouldn't feel bad about sending a box...who cares!!

I'm not taking anything extra. 11 days...11 outfits:) I can't. I have DH and I packed and there is one bag already filled. He still has three shirts to pack too. DS and DD still have their stuff and I don't have the fanny pack in yet.

We have to take the discus with us too. I hope they are only bringing one each, but I think they want to bring two each. So that's another issue. DH already had the shot shipped down UPS to our friend's house and he will ship it back for us too. DH has been reading and TSA don't know what they are so they are saying to put them in checked baggage. What fun. They take up a lot of room!:scared1:

We are allowed a carry one per person so I will utilize those. We use to carry on all of our bathroom stuff, etc, but now check it with the regulations so that bag will be our carry on and I'm hoping it's empty so we can bring stuff back. We shall see.

Will check out the mugs when we get there. We will be in a 1BR so may not need the mugs...we shall see I guess.

Heard on the news...they are saying this was a 3000 year flood.:worried:

EE22: Forgot to say that last year they had generic mugs and I thought that was going to be the trend. The idea behind it to recycle more than anything. Think of how many more paper cups would be used if people did not buy the mugs. I know I read it somewhere and did not come up with that idea on my own.

3000 year flood huh!:worried: Did they keep track that long ago?:confused3 I wonder if that is because it is historic since they have been keeping track and they are afraid to say worst ever.::yes:: I think everyone has global warming on their minds and it is getting a bit scary. They don't want hysteria.

I wondered the same thing about 3000 years. How would they know?
The news is the news and not always very accurate!

I'll check out the mug situation when we get to the BC And hang out at SAB!!

I may need another miracle getting DD to pack:rotfl2:

Good News! :thumbsup2 I-80 opened this afternoon and I-380 is scheduled to open in the morning.

Over the weekend, I really wondered about our trip...things are looking up.

Iowa City is not in good shape:worried: because the reservior is above it, the water will not recede as fast as it has here in Cedar Rapids. The damage here is incredible. I fell bad for all those people who lost everything:sad1:

A man was arrested here today...same one that was so very upset yesterday on the news because they wouldn't let him back into his home. I guess he had birds and dogs he was trying to feed. :worried:

I'm sure we will all feel this for a long time in some form or another around here. When I was a kid our basement flooded and it was a total loss. We had about 3 feet of water in our basement. I remember it well and cannot imagine having water 6 feet on the main floor or higher. It was also storm sewer water which is very different from this stuff. I have very few baby pictures because of that...I was the 2nd child too;) the only pics I have are those that were given back by relatives over the years or that my dad had at his place after the divorce. I remember my mom yelling at me...don't touch that light!!!:scared1: Not fun....

OK guys ...Im gettng alittle upset here....No Notifications for Tomar anymore ...BAWAHHHHH
I have to check-in on our thread ...to see what Ive missed...and it looks like I missed alot today !!

MKY- EE22 is right about sending boxes UPS instead of USPS....you will get a tracking # and can track and see if the box has been delivered !
I was up with the chickens this morning MKY...yes :teeth: ....Im gettting excited for our trip now !!!! Can`t sleep !! :cool1:

TP2- You haven`t seen the box I send to SSR I guess....It`s B-I-G !....not humongus....but big !...LOL ;) ...I send alot of things we use in the studio for breakfast...as well as clorax wipes ..and windex wipes ..Air Freshener etc..etc..:goodvibes
I haven`t had an issue yet at SSR....Im hoping to continue the trend too this year ...I hope:angel:

EE22- Im sooooooooooooo happy that things are looking up in the Field of Dreams today !!! YAHOOOOOO !!! At least some roads are opening for ya !!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
Im almost finished packing now EE22 ...:dance3:

EE22, from the pictures and news I would certainly think this was a major flood > Not sure how they keep records for that in years back.:confused3 Only thing to compare this to is New Orleans. :confused3 Hopefully, none of the new orleans refugees moved into the CR area. I know we have alot of people that came here. I could not image thinking that happened to someone twice. At least it sounds like things are headed the right way. Is your school ok?

mky:cutie:

mky:cutie:

Some of them did move here, but I'm not sure if any were hit again.

Not sure about the school.:confused3 Our website is down. It looked normal when I took DD to bball today. The football field is destroyed...it's down by the creek where there was flash flooding. FEMA will no longer pay for that...it's flooded many times before. No comment...

Info just in...our AEA shut down and moved everything up a floor to save it all. So...things are back up now there. That's where my paycheck comes from!!!

EE22 - I am so glad you are getting back to normal. :cool1:

Minnie - I hope everything is okay in your area too.

:lmao: You guys are killing me with all the luggage talk :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: My kids will wish they were going with you if they read this. I am the luggage police. ::cop:

We only pack for half the number of days we are going and I do wash once while gone since I hate :furious: too much luggage. I think I have my dad to thank for that. Eight people (I am the youngest of 6) in one Cadillac driving from the coast of British Columbia (near Seatle) to Montreal Quebec. We moved and only had one small U-Haul that we pulled for the house. Everthing else had to fit in the trunk of the car. And they CAMPED every night! :faint: My mother really is a saint

We usually take three big bags for the four of us and then my DH's clubs if he is golfing. But I usually have to add a duffle bag coming home. Only one carry on for the family and one back pack for things to keep the kids busy on the plane!

The entire family has one case for the bathroom supplies and it is the one that comes with your luggage (12x8 inches I think?). That is for the four of us. Maybe that will change as the kids become teens, but maybe not.

See I really am the luggage ::cop: We have so little luggage the guy at the airport usually asks me if that's it. :lmao:

I am so cheap - I am worrying about the extra $25 charge for the one duffle bag to check coming home!

My suitcases are still out but are finally empty now. It took me a week to get unpacked. I took MKY up on her suggestion of leaving them out. They are standing up and in the corner, waiting to go in July. One of my tricks is to not pack too early. It helps to cut down on the amount you bring.

Hi guys! I've been in bed  for a couple of days. I think it's all sinus/allergy. My head feels full of fluid. I'm taking meds and getting a little bit better ... but still not quite 100%

EE22 - I'm so glad to hear everything's okay for you. How far are you from the airport? Hopefully all roads will be okay in time for you to make the trip without any problems. The folks CR certainly have a rough situation on their hands. Recovery is always slow after these events. I know there are a TON of restoration companies up there working as fast as they can. I've had 3 call to ask if the Crowne Plaza in CR is my location, but it's not. Evidenty, it's trashed! :worried:

I feel your pain about packing. We are a family of 5 going for 10 nights! And, the oldest DD won't get here until 5 days before we leave, so I have no idea if she will have everything she needs with her or not (she usually doesn't). :headache: We will be down to the wire!

Tomar --- I still haven't started packing!!! And you're DONE?!? Seriously??? :faint:

At least we will have the W/D at AKV and BWV for 7 nights! I love being able to throw wet bathing suits and towels in there after we get back from the pool! :thumbsup2 I'm going to try to cut back on the amount of clothing this year, so we will likely be doing a bit of laundry during the trip ....... fun.

Y'all talking about airline baggage restrictions makes me REALLY HAPPY that we are able to drive! I don't know what I would do if we were limited to a total of 5 bags!!!

Oh, in regards to the refillable mugs ......... YES, they are all the same at every resort now. We stayed at Pop Memorial Day Wknd and they were the same as what we saw for sale at SSR (drove over to the gift shop) and Poly (went over for drinks with friends). They are special mugs for the Year of a Million Dreams - not resort specific. Who knows, next year they may go back to resort mugs, but for now, they are all alike. I even saw 2 people filling mugs at POP that were clearly not from this trip. One was a Poly mug and the other was a ASMu mug ...... both obviously purchased on previous trips. No one said a word to them. I don't think the CMs even noticed.

Crowne Plaza is right downtown. I still cannot believe how high up the water was there. 2-3 feet I think. Unreal. That's the hotel where the US Cellular Center is where we have graduation and events...like Disney on Ice, etc. The impacts of this flood haven't even begun. I had to turn off the news...too depressing and I'm not sure life will ever be the same around here:worried: The water was 10 blocks from the river and even further on the other side...it sits lower.
****VERY BAD RUMOR
from what I can tell...this is not true. Some much mis information out there. Now I'll probably find out this IS true. I'm not sure how they will hold class, but they are not closing down for the summer.
*****
Summer classes at the University of Iowa are OFF completely and they wonder about the fall. OMG. I can't imagine. The impacts of that are incredible...loss of degrees, loss of income...huge. I know for teachers many take classes to recertify or to move on the salary schedule. Giant implications and that's just one aspect. Teachers who have temp licenses. It makes my head hurt.:headache: I know I finished my Master's during the summer and many of those classes were not offered during the evenings when I was working and had to take them in the summer. Such a mess...

We are about 30 minutes from the airport and the I-380 bridge gets us there. I still worry about the railroad bridge up stream from it and the house boats sitting against it. There is now another route to the airport though since 13 and 30 are open now too.

Thanks for the info on the mugs:cool1: I'm behind since life came to a dead spot last week and we are going to Des Moines this weekend still for a track meet. I'm gaining on it though!:hyper:

Minnie: I hope you are okay. I know the water isn't to you yet or just about getting there.

Minnie: I hope you are okay. I know the water isn't to you yet or just about getting there.

Thanks for asking  We are hanging in here, the water level is expected to crest on Thursday now so keep sending the :wizard: A levy broke in our area yesterday, so this morning they closed all 3 bridges in my area. A lot of people in the surrounding communities were affected as many live in one state and work in the other :worried:

My DF's factory is still closed and the concern currently is for the electrical facility so sandbagging continues. I think the worst is still to come :worried:

I've got a major question to ask..... we have a trip planned in only 18 days - would you cancel :confused3 To be honest I want to go but I feel so guilty considering DF's factory is closed right now :( But work has been crazy and I've had to cancel 2 other planned trips this year and I need the stress relief so much :headache: Still I don't know what to do
