We are still doing okay here with water and power so far.
We have to limit sewer and water use, but my laundry was up to date before this all started earlier in the week. The news reports are wrong with only 24 feet for the Cedar River. It's up to 31 feet something and still hasn't not crested as of yet.

To let you know how high the water is...the Downtown DQ has water up to the roof of the building.

They are watching a raidroad bridge at the moment with house boats up against it that may collaspe.

Iowa City is now having major troubles and Des Moines. The University of Iowa sits all along the Iowa River.

I-80 is closed east of Iowa City and other minor road closings surrounding us. There is a 120 miles detour around it. Now that's a long way. Travel is not advised so here we are;) US 30 to get out of CR is also closed so there is one route open at the moment and that's I-380.

MKY...think about evacuating a hospital:( they had to last night.

Interstate 380 between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City is closing tonight. At least we can go north now...

EE22 - thanks for keeping us posted on how you are doing. I hope the weather breaks and soon. Are you going to be able to get out of town for your trip...and don't worry about laundry, take supplies with you as the washers and dryers at the DVC resorts are free for anyone staying as a DVC member. The AKV has a designated laundry room since the entire resort is not DVC. Ask at the front desk so you can do laundry while you are away.

We will be two weeks behind you at AKV so let me know how it works out for you.

MKY - the rain was here again this morning and if i am not mistaken, it is from down your way. It is pretty weak by the time it gets here and we still had a lot but we don't have any flooding yet. The wind is helping things to dry out before more rain comes our way.

Also, I found out we can take two bags in July if we need to since we bought our tickets before the policy changed. Check the fine print on the web site to see if your tickets were bought before the cut off date. For NWA I believe it was Mar 28. We bought our Jan tickets on Apr 1! :furious:

:eeyore: Checking in before bed:love:

We still have power, of course, and the river did crest. The river should go down to 1993 flood levels by Tuesday which is 7 feet above flood stage:worried: and not back to normal stages till June 24th.

They expect water conservation to last weeks in Cedar Rapids which is drinking water only. Marion is to conserve sewer use and water as we are sharing with Cedar Rapids. They may shut off water to parts of Cedar Rapids if water usage doesn't drop. Water production is only 25% of what it normally is. If it drops too low the water pressure will allow water to leak in and then there will be a boil water order.

Quaker Oats is completely under water. Buy cereal or anything with corn now:eek: Several other plants are too...Cargill, Penford...it's not good.

Des Moines seems to be okay...the river did crest already.

Iowa City doesn't expect their crest till Tuesday which is going to be very high over flood stage. Most of the sandbagging and levees they made are not holding :worried: their water treatment plants ?? mixed news on that. We are cut off from them now except for two news crews and aerial photos. The University softball fields are under 8 feet of water by some reports.

Palo a bit north west of here is completely under water...town of 1000 people completely evacuated.

The fish are swimming in the city streets and the bugs are coming....

Talk to you tomorrow!!

:eeyore: checking in this morning. We are still doing okay here. Water is still a major problem here. The news is telling everyone what to use instead of a shower...baby wipes, shaving cream have great uses!!

EE22 - The flood is filtering down are way now. We did what we could for my parents cabin last night and DF is sandbagging at work all day. The water is up to the plant's door so it looks like they will potentially be closing the plant next week. What really stinks is that at the end of May we got word that the plant is closing permanently in just a couple months :headache: Stay safe!

We have severe weather moving into the area now which is not what we need.

Some of the water in downtown has gone down and the mess in the streets is just amazing. They have to inspect the areas before people can get back into their homes. They are worried that people will pump out their basements with water around them and then they will collaspe.

The lack of water is an issue here and is continuing to be. Marion is to conserve as well and there's nothing left at the stores...or very, very little.

Send Pixie Dust and Prayers to the wells in Cedar Rapids. Des Moines in 1993 was out of water for 12 days...not good.:worried:

Oh no EE22. Things are not going well at all in your area. Let me know if you need a water run. Once they open up 80, we can bring it. ;) Those pictures are amazing, I liked the before and after > unbelievable.

That goes for you too minnie.:)

mky:cutie:

Thanks mky.

I-80 will be closed for awhile I would think. It was shut before I-380. The detour around 80 is 120 miles through Dubuque.

I-380 in 1993 was closed for TWO weeks and this flood is much worse. by about 12 feet worse. Highway 13 south is a lake and Highway 30...the other two lane east west road is flooded or nearly so. Highway 1 is also flooded and that goes south to Iowa City. 965 south to Iowa City is also closed. They showed highway 150 tonight on the news from up in Vinton north of here and there's a 20 foot gap in the road...at least 20 feet. The road washed out. Chitty Chitty is not able to rent.

The detour to Iowa City (normal 30 miles or so) is 281 miles. 4 hour trip :worried:

As you know, I-80 is the huge east west road in the US. Not good.

Keep sending Pixie Dust our way. We can escape north now though if we have to!

The water situation in Cedar Rapids has improved. They have another system back online so they have 50% of their water production up and running:cool1: so Marion is no longer pumping water to CR. CR is in better shape too which is good news.

People are starting to go back into their homes and businesses today:worried: can't imagine what they will find:worried:

Thanks for the Pixie Dust and Prayers for Iowa:love:

EE22: I thought of shipping you water but I was not sure if you would receive it if roads are out. MKY had a better idea. Glad to hear that things are improving and we don't need to go to drastic measures.

Tomar: So excited for you. Lucky you are packing. Your trip is so close now.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Fathers Day. I need a day off to rest.

EE22 - That's wonderful news for CR and Marion :goodvibes

In '93 I remember the worst part of what my parents found at their cabin was trying to deal with all the mud that remained when the flood waters left. Yuck  This was just a cabin not their main home but I remember so many that lost so much. Praying for those affected :wizard:

We just received word that my DF's plant is closed for atleast the week:headache: Water is through the doors and seeping (sp) in the walls. The electric had to be turned off as the risk with the water is simply too high and if a fire would break out the fire department wouldn't be able to get to the plant due to the impassable roads :scared1:

The water is still rising in our area so the worst is still to come :scared1: Thank you all for your prayers and :wizard:

The water didn't get as high as they thought in Iowa City so maybe things are looking up down your way. I don't know. I've learned far too much about floods this week. In 93 I knew it was going on but DD was born in May and was only about a month old so I was busy with her and DS who wasn't yet two. I do remember talking with my father and he said to head west to Michigan. We never had to leave and things here in CR were not as bad as they are this time.

Prayers are still coming your way.

Thanks for the water thoughts TP2 and MKY. We are in better shape now. I have to get busy now...trip is too close. Big question mark is whether the trip to Des Moines will take place. The roads around the school are closed and the roads to Des Moines are closed. DH and I are not seeing eye to eye on that trip. :headache: We shall see what a week does for Iowa.

Good Morning !:surfweb:
EE22 & Minnie - Prayers... that things are alittle better in the "Field of Dreams" today..
Mr. Tomar had a good Father`s day (as I hope all the Dads did :goodvibes )....
The Perfectly Princess called and wished her Gam-pa a happy day....which always melts Mr. Tomar....by just hearing her call his name !!...LOL
She is talking up a storm now....and soon will be 2 years old !! WOW how time flies !!!!
Speaking of time flying.....
We are NOW in.....Final Packing Mode this week...WHOO HOOO !!!:cool1:  :cool1:  :cool1:  :cool1:
Wishing everyone a good week...and an especially safe one ...for EE22 and Minnie....

Hiya everyone!:wizard:

pixiedust:EE22 & Minnie, Hope things are drying out. We are still getting daily reports of rain heading this way from Iowa, Hope it flew over you's. They are showing alot of coverage from your area on tv. Just so sad. Might be nice to go on your trips, just to lift your spirits, for a few days.

Tomar, what are you doing up at 4:45am? Yikees, I hope you wheren't getting ready for work at that hour. OK, you are down to low double digits, :hyper: but relax, you are a professional packer and will get down with no problem.:hourglass

TP2, great idea, just I am closer.:thumbsup2

Candi, are you unpacked yet > so you can start packing for disney.:thumbsup2

Actual disney question > Anyone ever ship a box? We did a few years ago, and Poly gave me the impression, it was a big problem. :confused3 Wondering if it is now a more acceptable thing. Might help with the luggage situation.

Mky:cutie:
