June 8, 2011 – Mediterranean

Hi all,
I'm new to Disboards but not to Disney (ex CM), and I just booked myself on this cruise. Needless to say, but I'm brimming with excitement!!

I have a couple of questions, and I'm thinking the more experienced among you will probably be able to help me out, but if not I shall continue my search for information..

I've booked Disney transfers from the Airport to the Port, but my arrival flight time is 12h45 at this time - my check in is telling me that this 'might be too late to reach the port' and yet the information on the site says that the latest recommended flight arrival is 13h15.. will I be ok leaving the flight as it is, or would you recommend changing the flight to an earlier arrival? It's not too big of a deal changing the flight, but I'd rather not..

How do the Disney transfers work? I'm assuming people will be waiting for me once I get off the flight and clear customs?

I'm a solo traveller for this cruise (nobody else could afford it, but I'm currently living in Paris so the cost wasn't too bad for me) - does anybody have any advice for solo travellers such as myself?

Also, if anybody would like information on Paris/transportation/DLP, I'm quite familiar with the area, so please feel free to PM me with questions should you be planning a pre or post cruise trip to the beautiful city of lights!!

My thanks in advance for your reading this and any help you might be able to give me!

Welcome on board!!!!
I can't offer much info about airport transfer since we are flying into Barcelona the day before departure. We are spending 5 nights in Paris pre-cruise so I may come up with a few questions for you ;). So happy to have a former cast member in our cruise.

I have to chime in on this one! Solo is the best! I went to the Caribbean solo for my 25th birthday and had a blast. Get to know people- your table mates, servers, room host, etc. They really take good care of you. The best part of solo is doing what you want when you want! ;)

Our flight lands at 12:20 and it comes up with the same message. I wouldn't worry about your arrival time.

It has been a few years since our last cruise and I thought I would delve into a sensitive area:rolleyes1.....dinner attire. On the cruise casual nights, are non-denim capri's appropriate?

I love dressing up for disney cruises, but that's us. TBH I haven't seen many people with capris on. Full lenght linen trousers with a nice top, yes.

Hope this helps.

Hi there :welcome: aboard. You're very brave doing this solo. A very port intensive cruise doesn't give you an opportunity to bond with people on the ship because everyone is off every day. Mind you I think someone said, bond with your table mates that will help.

We are a family of 3. Come along to the dismeet on the first day and say hello to everyone. That way you know familiar faces.

We have done a few of these ports before, especially Naples and Rome. So if you fancy not doing these on your own, we are catching local trains and, have guide book and map, will travel :woohoo: give us a shout :) another person coming along won't be a problem

Thank you for all your reassurance guys and gals (especially mehaul on the flight front!). Kudos to all of you for slogging through my long post and taking the time to answer. I'd be happy to turn up to the dismeet, hope to see you all there.

Less than a month to go!!

:yay::woohoo::yay::woohoo::yay:
2 weeks from now I'll be on a plane to Europe!
Come on vacation. Sooooooo!!!! Excited.

You beat me to it Amyren! was going to write....

3 Weeks today :cool1:

I'm so excited!

Praying for no airport strikes/volcano eruptions etc over the coming weeks!

Exams, Disneyland Paris and then it's time to Cruise!!

That being said, I should probably study instead of checking my reservation every 10 minutes to see if they've assigned my room yet............ :rotfl:

Gosh do you not have a room assignment yet.... I would be checking every waking minute :lmao::lmao:

I have started packing too :cool1:

Can't wait to get on that boat now

We've nearly finished our packing, now we have to wash basics every other day! :rotfl: We'll be the ones in the permanantly wrinkled clothes.... I thought if my bags were packed, we'd leave sooner. :rotfl2:

Wow, you guys pack early. :rotfl2:

Rambling ...

We're 2 weeks from heading to London for the start of our trip. I'm hoping to get to the Disney store that I hear is pretty big (I still have to look it up). I keep looking up our reservation to see if we've been upgraded. Alas, it appears we'll not get the treat this trip. Oh well.

This trip has been over a year in planning and at the moment, the timing of certain ailments is vexing. On a trip where we'll expected to walk and walk and walk, I'm currently trying to get used to brand new orthotics to help relieve pain in my ankle. Talk about crappy timing!! My choice of shoes is extremely limited since the orthotics are customized to two pairs of identical shoes (one black, one white). LOL Well, i can't be accused of being a fashion horse. :rotfl: Now, to add to my "woes", I've developed tendonitis in my elbow (ie, tennis elbow) by lifting, get this .... my camera bag or otherwise known as ... my carry on luggage!!! And probably aggravated by my ridiculous obsession to Angry Birds.

So, I should be easy to spot on the cruise ... just look for the Igor impersonation (dragging a foot and an arm) while trying to look fashionable in bright white, clubby looking walking shoes. One advantage of those shoes ... it adds 1 inch to my height. :thumbsup2 Oh, I'll also have my lime green Mickey head clipped onto that injury causing camera bag.

This crusie is so port heavy that I'm actually looking forward to the sea days. I'm already getting ready to win at Bingo (haha ... yeah, right). But what I'm really, really looking forward to is lying down on a deck chair on Deck 4 and watching the sea sail by. :cloud9:

So sorry about the ailments; that is very frustrating!

However, I do have a level of Angry Birds that I need help with.:rotfl2::rotfl2: I will look for the white shoes on Deck 4.

I am so trunkie but my son is graduating from high school and I am trying so hard to focus on that first, especially since we are leaving him at home.:rolleyes1

At least your still smiling.
Only 2 sea days, better get your rest now.

Stupid question for those who have cruised recently. Can you just charge laundry to your shipboard account now or do they take cash? I am trying to pack as little as possible, which my children think is funny considering I just bought another suitcase.;)
