June 7, 2011 Alaska

DD and I are bringing dresses for formal and semi-formal nights. DH is renting a tux and will wear it both nights. We are traveling with friends and they are planning on doing the same thing. Not sure if Kendra has let Jay know that yet, but that is plan. So, you will not be the only ones lugging that stuff around.

Yay! Glad to know we won't be alone.

Are you doing any extra days in Vancouver or Seattle before/after the cruise? That's the part of the packing that's going to kill me- the extra.

Is anyone planning on renting or bringing a tux/evening gown for formal night? Please don't tell me we will be the only ones adding that stuff to our suitcases to bring too.:scared1:

We have been to Vancouver before so we are only staying two days before the cruise.

We always wear gowns and tuxes, but that is just us. Some people don't. So, no.....you won't be alone. I guess there goes another suitcase. :lmao:

Pixie 3,
The Dean's will be doing the FE exchange it is our first but we want to try it! :rotfl: We are in cabin 6131, it will just be Mike(DH), AllyKay(DD) and I (Khristy). We are traveling with family but just our cabin is taking part. Also DD is turning 12 right before we sail, but she is still cognitivly 9-10 and loves all the characters.::MinnieMo
Thanks for all the work you are doing on this thread, it's awesome!

We will be flying in and out of Seattle for the cruise. We will be using Quick Shuttle between Seattle and Vancouver and I'm trying to decide what time to make the reservation going back to Seattle on June 14th; the options are 9:15am or 10:45am. What do you think? We have late dining so I know our breakfast will be the late seating on the last day.

Hello, my two sons were just given a wonderful surprise by their grandparents and found out that they will be on this cruise in June. Unfortunately I will not be joining them, but wanted to get the scoop for my parents who do not spend much time online! It will be a first Disney cruise for all four of them- my Mom Trish, Dad Mike, and my 2 DS's Cody- 16 and Ryan- 12.
One question they have is if there are still the same theme nights on an Alaska cruise. Are pirate costumes still a good idea? Don't know if anything about the cruise itself changes aside from the destination.
I will read through the thread and hope to be able to give my folks some helpful tips!
Wish I was sailing with you!!
Thanks,
Katie

We reserved the 9:15 am shuttle to Seattle. I looked at the times that it arrives in Seattle (we're staying at the Best Western by the Space Needle), and based my decision on that. We wanted to have a little time to see a few things around Seattle before our flight home the next morning.

Well, since we are staying with friends near Seattle until Saturday (time is not a problem) I think we'll go with the 10:45 shuttle. We used to leave near Seattle and look forward to seeing somethings we've been missing, like Mt. Ranier. I will check with Quick Shuttle to see if we can get on the earlier bus if we're ready to go and space permits.

We got Pixie Dusted!! When we booked back in September 2009 we booked 9B GTY status so I've been checking a lot for our stateroom number, including once this morning. I just checked again and we've been upgraded to a 7A stateroom, number 5138. :cool1::woohoo::cheer2: On our first DCL cruise we were in a 9B stateroom so this will our first Veranda of any kind!!

Welcome!!
Thank you!! :cool1:

:welcome:

Congratulations on your 11 years! Fish is very fun and Samara will love it. Don't stress out over the FE bag part. I've seen people use all kinds of stuff. I have you on the front page now. Let me know your stateroom number when you get it. It matters for fish gifts!!!! Thanks! :)

Thank you for the welcome and the congrats!!

Yaay for being on the front page  I'll get you the stateroom number.

I agree with you about the packing for the weather.

I am NOT looking forward to packing for every type of weather!!!

I've been thinking about the weather and what to pack. It's such a daunting thought, that I keep trying to put it off.

I did order some waterproof/windproof jackets (for the whale-watching and potential rain showers) for the kids from Sierra Trading Post.

I am not looking forward to that packing either. We'll be spending some time in Vancouver and Seattle before and after the cruise so we need to pack a bit extra. I'm contemplating packing less and doing laundry on the cruise. We got rain boots and windproof/waterproof jackets. I want to get some all-weather hiking boots.

Evette and chernabogfamily - I'm wondering why you chose the Quick Shuttle over Amtrak. We'll be traveling with a 2 year old so I'm worried about taking the Quick Shuttle over the Amtrak. I want to take the Amtrak for what I think I would be more space and the ability to move around a bit. But the Quick Shuttle has more times. The Amtrak only goes early morning or in the evening with a late arrival into Vancouver. :(

We chose Quick Shuttle because of the convenience mostly. I think the train would be great too. As you said there are more times with Quick Shuttle so it works out better for us. We are flying into Seattle late on Sunday, June 5th, the flight doesn't get in until 11:00pm. We'll spend the night at the Holiday Inn Express near the airport and then in the morning take the hotel shuttle back to the airport to catch the 10:30am Quick Shuttle. We are staying at the Pan Pacific in Vancouver and the Quick Shuttle will take us right there. When we leave the cruise ship I have us reserved on the 10:45am Quick Shuttle that will take us back to the Seattle airport where we will rent a car since we are staying for a few days in the area with friends. One nice thing I found out is that Quick Shuttle offers a Travel Industry discount so my husband was able to use it since he's a reservations agent for an airline.

We chose Quick Shuttle just for convenience sake. I like that it will pick us up right at the port and drop us off in front of the Best Western in downtown Seattle. I had read a couple of reports regarding Amtrak about the train getting delayed for a couple of hours, and I didn't want to risk that (since our son REALLY wants to go up in the Space Needle after we get into town). The departure & arrival time for the shuttle vs Amtrak was my deciding factor. I like the early afternoon arrival into Seattle.
We're flying directly into Vancouver a couple of days before the cruise and seeing some sights, so I will only be experiencing it one-way. Let me know what you ultimately choose. We all have different plans for pre/post cruise and I love hearing everyone's thoughts and plans.

:cheer2:Welcome!!:cheer2:

Thanks for the welcome, I bought all my supplies to make my FE. I;)t might have cost the same to buy it, but this way I can have have the memory of making it with my daughter.
Okay so now I am trying to keep all the fish participants straight, is there a trick to it? I would love some suggestions.

Just learned that I will be in room 6154. Can you add my name to Fish Extender list? Traveling from San Antonio day before cruise. Plan to spend time in Vancouver after cruise.

I put your family on our list. :thumbsup2 What a nice surprise!

I don't think there is going to be a pirate night.

We have been assigned cabin 7009, although the state of our trip is kinda up in the air at the moment I'm going through an interview process and the training starts on the 30th of May :upsidedow fingers crossed everything works out and I will still be on the cruise, someone may be going in my place :sad1:
