June 29, 2008 - Magic - West Coast!!!!

While I am 99.99% sure there will be something for the 4th of July, also remember we (Americans) will not be the only ones onboard.

DCL might be tip-toeing through this. The real question is what did they do on other DCL cruises. Wade through a few trip reports from last year, and that should give you a idea of what might be on tap for this year.

I absolutely agree...we (Americans) will not be the only ones onboard. And I have asked past cruise go'ers what actually happens onboard on the 4th...most say there's an occasional "Celebretory glass" that we can toast the occasion. And Mickey and Minnie dress up in red white and blue. So that would be cool as well to get a few pictures with them. My patriotism gets the best of me sometimes....my Dad is a Vietnam Vet, and I really LOVE celebrating our Freedom...sorry if I came across to harsh :)

I remember some old trip reports and there maybe some special "drink of the Day glasses" on sale. Nothing spectacular.

I've been on cruises during Easter - on DCL and Royal Carribean - not once did they do any thing special for Easter (notwithstanding services). Maybe a cast member may wear a pair of rabbit ears, but on our experiences only, that was it.

Approximately 6 more weeks until we can watch The Magic sail out of San Pedro!

EDIT...sorry if I came across to harsh :)

Oh, no you didn't. Not at all.

I know there were a number of Brits on our last cruise, I would suspect there might be Canadians and Japaneese on this one.

*We* can do something. I do think there might be extra fireworks - PLEASE!

PizzieDuster or Cryssi (if you or anyone else who's been to DL around the 4th of July), do you ever remember seeing any merchandise that was red, white, and blue? I can remember the ears, but for the life of me I can't seem to recall if there was a lot to choose from as far as t-shirts, or whatever. Since we'll be stopping there before the cruise, maybe I'll be able to find a few things for the 4th. I'm sure if there is it'll certainly be in the World of Disney. I'll also be checking on Disneyshopping.com, but just curious if anyone knows...TIA ;)

We have been on the cruise for the 4th. No special fireworks. We only had fireworks for Pirates night. At dinner they had a cake that was decorated at the door. We had special 4th of July menus. Example-Apple Pie We had a special champ. glass and they served champ. and the captain came into the dinning room for a toast. The kids got sparkling cider. Mickey and Minnie dressed up in red, white, and blue. Disney did a great job celebrating the 4th of July.

OOOOOOOYUM!! A dinner menu that would be fried chicken, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, apple pie....that would be YUMMY!!! I vote for that menu :rotfl:

That is the type of menu they had two years ago. It was really nice. They gave you the menu at the end of dinner. Pretty nice.

Thanks, mickeyteachers,, I am sad.....BUT,,, there is the good side,,, we'll be on the ship anyway!!!!!:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:
:worship: :worship:

I suppose that nothing surprises me regarding DCL. I thought for sure there would be fireworks for the arrival of the Magic into Long Beach the first time in 2005 when we did the Panama Canal. NOTHING!!!!! Just the fire boats(2) and that was it. How disappointing!!!! I felt it was totally inappropriate for the level of excitement. They did give the Magic a big send off, but, come on,,,, no celebration of its arrival!!!!! I still have hard feelings over that. All of us were up and on deck 9 and 10 to watch as we sailed in. Nothing. :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: There were only a few people waving to us from the terminal.

Is everyone subscribed to this thread so they get an e-mail when someone posts? I do, but I don't always get the e-mail. I miss things sometimes unless I remind myself to check.

If you are a first time DCL cruiser, today should be the day when you should be booking excursions/spa/Palo!!

Get to work!! Let us know how you do!

I know I joined this thread kind of late. But, I was wondering if anyone has put together a list with all of the disboard members who are on this cruise?

Actually, that is a good idea and is done a lot on cruise threads from "another board". It is generally done by the person who started this thread...:worship:

Pizzieduster?

Last year we had a list of all of the disboard cruisers and room number. We then did a gift exchange. It was really fun. We also put notes in each others fish extender.

I know...the lack of email notifications is crazy. I have to check here too just to see if anyone's responded. But anyway, this first time DCL cruiser can't book until Monday night at 9:00pm (California time). I'm going nutso having to wait this long....the good thing is that I get to really think about and decide the 'what', 'when', and 'where' for our excursions/bookings/etc :)

Hi Shipboard Gang,
I am family to Hawaiian Mickey and Kouris Family. There will be 12 of us traveling. Yippee! This is a rerun of our Mediterranean Cruise from last summer -- my first DCL! Nothing like it. Never had a better vacation. Hoping for a repeat.
Someone posted a ? about whether they would play a movie "Wall-E" that's being released while we are enroute. Just from my little experience, DCL did show Ratatouille while in the Med prior to its release in the US.
Also, what is a fish extender?

While I leave the planning up to the experts (seasoned travelers) in our family, I thought I'd ask what did each of you returning cruisers like about the ship?

What did I like about DCL? Palo's, KidsClub, Drink of the Day, Shopping Seminar, Walking Deck (okay, I only did it twice but it felt good to do it), Art Auction (ok, the martini's too), bond with family and meet really great people. Our DisBoard folks all met for a private party on the bow one afternoon and the captain came. Nice photo opp! What do I hope to do this time? Meet more great people! Can't wait to hear the meeting/organizing suggestions from all of you!

**From What I Have Seen Booked So Far Online**

You will want to hit your Palo reservations first - Dinner looks to have room, Brunch and Tea are full, or darn near full. Then hit the confirm button.

Then go after your excursions. Then hit confirm.

You can "book" things, but until they are confirmed, they aren't yours.

I logged on 5 minutes early, and I couldn't access the activity/dining buttons, but as soon as the clock struck 9pm pacific, the items were available.

If anyone would like, I would be happy to go on early (8pm) and look to see what things look like and report back. You can DM me, or my e-mail is infobahn(at)gmail dot com

This is like going into the Magic Kingdom, and know what ride is most important to you at rope drop.

Oh my gosh Infobahn, thank you so much!! :worship: I was up at 2am this morning (I'm a big time insomniac), just thinking about our choices and hoping it all works out. I'll print out your response and refer to it while I'm going through the process....I really appreciate it!! :thumbsup2
