June 23rd 2012 - Commandeering the Disney Fantasy - Pirates back in the Caribbean

Just had a moment to catch up on the postings while I was cruising to Nowhere. But can't spend much time responding because now it's past my bedtime. :rotfl:

disfrog - was that you chatting with Jill in Overlook while I was in the corner "reading" (aka napping?) - wish I would have known, I would have introduced myself - side note that Overlook Cafe is my new favorite spot on the ship, will have to check out the Dream info and see if there is something similar.

Yep that was me and my hubby, Dennis hanging out with Jill. I really like that spot too. Very cozy, nice view, fun furniture.... We will have to meet somewhere similar on the Dream :goodvibes

Well...

.. I've been running around town to find GATE testing materials.... going to the local Barnes and Nobel, 3 libraries, and called a couple of education specialist stores about GATE testing materials as my older one gets tested for GATE this weekend ... maybe. We have yet to receive the confirmation that the testing is scheduled for this weekend or another in February! I checked my our GATE advisor and she confirmed the office is running behind in getting those letters out! And they supposedly went out TODAY! Sigh...?

At any rate, I wanted to find a sample test to let my daughter gain familairity with the format and such. However it's so tough to find anything!!!? The one store I found said they were SOLD OUT of the materials they had - so tomorrow morning I will renew my search over a wider range. Having a couple of days or weeks is enough. I figure aptitude is not something you build and our daughter is already a straight A student... however I expect more. So yeah... I'm a "Tiger Dad" who practices "tough Love" as the newsweek article cites with the "Tiger Mom"... or was that Time magazine?

Our cast:
Me, Jill
DH, Chuck
DD, Caroline who will be 8 by this sailing
DS, Garrett who will be 5 by this sailing

Aboard

Okay - back to the drawing board - we'll go to WDW the week before and if Paul can take the time off we could do b2b the week following - or just save the money!!

WDW the week before....:yay::yay::yay:

I like that..... My rear is NOT interested in running...but, I can encourage. :) :cheer2::cheer2: GO Mike! GO Tom! GO Lisa! :cheer2::cheer2: Am I missing anyone???

If the kids are out of school count us in too :cool1:

Oh this could be a fun night on the Fantasy, if the DIS Pirate Crew is dressed to the nines like they were last time. You won't know who is cast and who is guest for sure!!!! Sad to see Mickey out, but Love the Capt. Jack addition.

Well fellow Pirates, I've a ship to be catching tomorrow, so I best be off to me bunk. The DIS crew (and new stowaway), arrrr ready to take what we can...... pirate:

Have fun Andy!! Take lots of pictures, like I need to tell you that :rotfl2:

GIVE NOTHING BACK!!

Good Luck finding what you are looking for! And with your daughter on her testing. :)

As much FUN stuff that y'all do with your girls.....I don't think you can be considered a Tiger *Dad*. :)

I can't wait to see your pics and hear all about your trip!!

We're also looking to stay at least a few days before hand at WDW, depending of course on school.

Oh, and I will most likely be shouting encouragement for all you runners out there from the safety of somewhere relaxing.:cheer2::cheer2: Go team!!

You know every one has a dark side - and I certainly have mine. On the one hand I do some fun and sometimes crazy things. And at other times I am a bit strict in demanding "A"s and that the kids work gets done first! I've got the kids working on gaining familiarity with the periodic table and Kalea has math arithmatic tables posted in the bathroom at thier eye height... because when you're considering kids on the potty.... you just might agree we have a captive audience for a bit of impromptu math reviewing! This plus numerous other pursuits and admonishments make Alicia and I out as at least HALF Tiger parents! Consider, minutes after we shared the news we were "Expecting" with Alicia's Dad - he sagely asked, no he DEMANDED to know WHAT we were going to do about the horrible Califorina schools he had heard about!??? So go figure?

Yeah... I am a Dark Side "tough Love Daddy"... just like Vader here!

Have you either seen or read Cheaper By the Dozen (original not the remake)? The bathroom ideas are great time management ideas.

I think that all of us want our kids to succeed and excel in school, but I heard on the TV (granted, I've never read the book, so I don't know if it is true....) that this lady threw away cards that her daughter made her and made her do them again if they were not perfect. That seems a bit crazy to me! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

I am a fairly laid back Mom, but I've run into a few crazed parents this year because my Daughter is in the County GT program. I've had parents call me because their kid did poorly on a test and the parents felt that the test must have been faulty. When test scores came out last year, I couldn't believe how many people asked what her scores were!

What I don't get is why only Piano or Violin? Why not Clarinet or Viola? :)

Wow! That will be an awesome experience. I've been all over the state, but never Kotzabue. You are probably all set, but ask away if you have any questions about life in the last frontier.

So, by summer 2012, Mike will have run either 2 WDW half marathons or a half and a full. Lisa and Nick will have run a WDW 5K and maybe a half. My monkeys and Lisa's youngest will have a few WDW 5K's under their belts. Mike's kids might have a WDW 5K. Steve (DH) and I have run 2 Expedition Everest Challenges. I've run 2 WDW halfs and Steve has run a WDW half and 4 Mickey marathons, including Dopey Weekend of a 5K, and a Goofy (half and full the same weekend).

...and most of us wouldn't consider ourselves runners!

I'm volunteering Laura for the Castaway 5K too! :)

Carp! Guess I will have to do the 1/2 next January to hang with y'all

TWO things..... Does she ever play down this way? If she played baseball/softball I know she would play down this way... I live 5 mins from *Field of Dreams* or whatever it's called. lol.
Second thing... I had to LOL about the temps. That is the truth! LOL! BUT, I'm tired of Arlington being referred to as Dallas..... Not even in the same COUNTY!! OK. rant over. ;)

She mostly plays in McKinney, Plano, Dallas and around Flower Mound. I guess the closest we have gotten to you is Grapevine/Colleyville (and that is definitely not very close to you).
I heard on the radio (KSCS) that Arlington is getting so sick of being called Dallas this whole time. I fear it will not get better before the SB. We know the truth, right? ;)

Okay, cool!

Kylie's select club (Crew Juniors) is affiliated with Columbus Crew (MLS).

Has Miranda seen the virtual sports simulators on Goofy's Sports Deck? They might enjoy those, as it does include a soccer experience.

Soccer in 100+ degrees?

NO WAY!!! I had no idea it had soccer too. Last night when we were coming home from practice I actually wondered if that simulator did soccer but all the pictures I saw were of golf. She will be in heaven!

Yep- soccer in 100+. If the heat index is 95 or above they have to take water breaks every 5 mins of play. It is just miserable sitting out in under my shaded chair covered w/ the Chilly Frogs, while misting myself w/ ice cold spray. LOL!
We bought the team a great portable mister that they keep under a tent over the girls bench. That helps too. I DREAD summers in Texas.

why-do-we-get-sick-1.jpg

Awww.... My daughters' cough of the past week an' a half took a turn for the worse this morning... 103.5 fever. SO we have a doc visit at noon... then Omnicef most likely. And it was just yesterday that I called the Doc to review what conditions we were to watch for that this cough does not become a pneumonia or something else more serious?

Hope she feels better soon. It is tough to watch the little ones when they are not feeling well.

I have 5 kids (ages 30 down to 9) and the oldest 4 have taken 2 yrs of piano. :thumbsup2 One of them played violin and 3 of them took up guitar for a bit and now one of them has decided that the drums are his instrument of choice... The 9yr old has decided to start piano this year.

I figured she played up that way for soccer -- I think all the select teams play up that way. Even the ones from my area!

Only in TX would a city with over 350,000 people not be a *big* enough name to be remembered...
