June 23rd 2012 - Commandeering the Disney Fantasy - Pirates back in the Caribbean

With Laura stowing away on the Maiden Voyage without telling any of us, I'd say we volunteer her for any and all activities!

Awww.... My daughters' cough of the past week an' a half took a turn for the worse this morning... 103.5 fever. SO we have a doc visit at noon... then Omnicef most likely. And it was just yesterday that I called the Doc to review what conditions we were to watch for that this cough does not become a pneumonia or something else more serious?
:sad2:Hope she feels better soon:flower3:

Well hell, if Tom does it, I'm gonna hafta! Just don't tell my surgeon.
and the wife:rolleyes1:rolleyes:

My trip report from the Disney Dream from Jan 21st-23rd is up and started. You can get the link in my Signature! Enjoy! It's an amazing ship and I didn't have nearly enough time to do anything I wanted. I will never go on a big group (10 people) cruise EVER AGAIN:mad:!! Beacuse everyone wanted to do something different, including me, but some people in our group couldn't accept the fact that we didn't want to hang out with them THE WHOLE TIME, and made the last day only full day on the ship miserable!! :headache:

But I'm really excited for me and DF's honeymoon so we can have 2 full weeks to do whatever we want and not have someone complaining about it:cloud9:

cool trip report:thumbsup2
Yes, some family members can be very difficult to travel with:hug:

All caught up:banana:

Sorry for hogging the thread

I did drive by Chantilly Highlands yesterday:goodvibes

HallsofVA and Schmoogrl we have to get together for Starbucks one of these days.

Hard to tell who is off and home today.... :rotfl2:

Ahhhh! The Blizzard of 96! I was 24 and my roommate and I were snowed in for the whole week. We just had some friends walk over and we pretty much had a week long party. :)

LOL. Ahhhh, to be young! :)

At 12:45 I got an e-mail from one of my staff who I ordered out of office at 4:15, she still wasn't home

Oh, NO! I feel bad for the people thathad to try to get home and bad for the people that were at home waiting on them! Can you imagine? I hope she made it safe and sound.

My DS turned 17 in December and I feel the same way. Especially after looking at some home video a few days ago:sad2:
Some days he's great and some days not:rolleyes:
Some days I want him to just grow up and others not:confused3

LOL. I know that feeling.

hey Andrew
Darren came out of lurkdom too:laughing:

Love the name:thumbsup2
Would have made my DH MrScooby if I could:rolleyes1

Diet started here as well:thumbsup2
So far so good, but it's always easier in the beginning:rolleyes:

Last time Jon read the board more regularly then I did but, never posted.

I had to LOL about the names. Years ago Jon & our oldest ran a gaming server and boards. One day I decided to register on the boards.....Jon's screen name is Zircon. So, I registered as Zirc's Wife. Within minutes Jon was calling me *So, what are you doing?* Me *Nothing much.* Jon *Been on the computer much today?* Me, *Oh, you're calling to find out if I'm Zirc's Wife or if some crazy person is stalking you.* :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
He was muched relieved that it was the crazy person that he is married to and not some random crazy person. ;)

Diet? Excersie? BLECH. Although I do need to start eating better.......

Good morning everyone!

I just moved 2 tons of snow. 18 inches here near JFK.

Great upper body work out though.

Have to catchup. (ketchup)

Home today, kids as well.

My traps hurt.

Crash, hope your daughter feels better.

I am not 100% sure - but I THINK that is my niece in the background there - in the stroller? My memory is NOT what it used to be - which was not all that impressive to begin with?
( chuckles )

Aside from that - IDK how my daughter is doing as shes' still in bed this morning - last I saw her was yesterday early evening as I ran out last nite to run some lengthy errands and did not see her - however she did sleep ALL DAY. IDK if I mentioined - but I took her to see her Doc yesterday and we obtained Omnicef. This stuff is usually pretty effective so I expect her conditioin to improve sharply in the next few days.

So last I glanced - it's only 53 or so more postings until we see who is still the most wicked pirate and siezes the 1st 1000th posting prize?

You guys were busy yesterday and this morning.

I guess some are home due to the snow here in the east.

Glad to hear that.

Absolutely not, I came back and played second half after skinning myself. Loved it and can't wait for rematch!

I'm glad you're in, I had a great time, and the medication was 2 for 1 if i remember corectly.

I have seen a couple of references to skin loss, how exactly was this game played?

Barefoot on the teen beach on CC, we had a practice on the sports deck the week prior, which was very productive.

LOL! Yeah, I think Rob lost some skin too....but they had plenty of "pain medication" (beer) to take care of the discomfort.

So, did they sell you on it? Are you signing up to play too Bob?

Rob had elbow and knee abrasions i think. He did very well for never playing before.

Not sure I know enough about what is involved, but the pain medication has me interested. :thumbsup2 LaRue played at least one year of Rugby in college, so she could be a ringer.

Lets sign her up.

Or a Hooker.

I'm a hooker to!

Oh, and Rob had never played Rugby before, as was the case for many of the participants......Pete did a good job of explaining the rules to everyone :thumbsup2

We all had fun

LOL - I will ask her tonight if she was one :lmao:

If she was a hooker?

I will have to wait until I get home to find the enhance photos of Tom's injuries.

Roger, great job with the pictures!

It is touch rugby, but played on the beach with a bunch of out of shape, older than should be playing mixed with young, agile people.....

Most injuries were sand burns

Umm? Correct!

:beach:

Drinks first, then Rugby...

Also correct.

Looking at it now it really doesn't look all that bad.

1169019647_Ar9vm-XL.jpg

There were particles of sand in it!

The rugby game looks like a lot of fun. I missed it last time, but I think we're skipping the vow renewal on this cruise. Let me know if you have an open spot on one of the teams.

Did they run out of cool names for the positions? We have hookers and flankers, then there's plain ole Number 8.

Front row, second row, the pack, the fatties, locks, number 10, scrum half, and of couse the hand bags (9-15)

I don't think that anyone in my group will want to play rugby (I fear pain of all kinds) but we will cheer along. :)

Still waiting for my husband. He left work at 3:30 this afternoon and it is 10:45pm and he still isn't home. Closer, at least.

We had a decent cheering section, Ally and AJ watched incognito.

that's what makes it perfect for a bunch of pirates pirate:

Aw! Monica, nicely said.:)

Ouch! There goes the skin on the knees and elbows. In my defense (back me up Pete), a touchdown in Rugby means you actually have to "touch" the ball down on the ground. Although I don't think that means me. I was probably glad to fall down and stay there for a while.

A touch down in rugby is called a try. You actually have to touch the ball down on or across the try line. This is where the word touch down comes from in American football. Rugby gave birth to American football in the early 1900's.

Hi Laurie!

Our Andrew is in marching band too in HS. He plays clarinet. Really amazing how well he plays without any real practice:rolleyes:

Drew (who is also an Andrew) also plays clarinet! How funny :)

Yeah.....he never brings his instrument home to practice, either......

Hey Peter, I noticed you're a Jets fan. Half way there. The bigger question is this - Mets or Yankees?

Saw my ortho surgeon today. He said stay away from certain activities such as tennis, running, skiing. Never mentioned rugby.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

So, I'm in (don't tell my wife:ssst::ssst:).

Ha! We are going with 30 others in our family this summer on the Dream. We all travel a lot together so the way we have always handled it is to get our cabins together so we see each other more, but during the day we all go separate ways. A group may take one excursion or one activity and we may be together that way but dinner is the time we are all together.
Actually, now that I think about it, out TA has arranged and paid for a private party for us every time before. We had drinks and hor' doeuvres in a private room. She said she was gong to do it on the Dream but have not heard specifics yet.

Just back from a day in Orlando. We took a detour over to Jetty Park to watch the Dream leave on the Inaugural. Dave and I were just to the right of the BonVoyage on Jetty Park. The Dream sounded her horn twice as they passed the sign. They had a celebration (Disney an Port Canavarel) at Jetty Park. The usual DJ type of entertainment. They mentioned there might be pix on both DCL and Port Canaveral sites. WFTV had their chopper up so the coverage may be on WFTV.com. She is a beautiful -- and big -- ship. I'll try to post some pix tomorrow.

Barbara

Always nice to have our own on-site roving reporter. :thumbsup2

We were on the Magic this past summer and the inside rooms on the Dream for this summer were all booked too. Lucked out for the Fantasy and have one inside room and a verandah room close by. Turned out to be not much more than putting the whole family in a verandah room and much more space.
But a stateroom tour will be cool to see all the new rooms:woohoo:

Love how much your parents travel:thumbsup2
How was that big cruise they took? The really long one.

All inside Dream cabins were booked when I tried to book onboard in mid-June last year.
My parents loved their around the world cruise. The Gulf of Iman was a bit scary w/ the pirate situation. They had to have an escort out that included a submarine, helicopter and gunships. They had daily "pirate drills" that certainly sounded interesting. Next week they are in the Antarctica area that had the ship disbaled due to rough seas and had to be rescued.

Losing track of the ages
Forgot the Kelly would be 15 for this cruise:rolleyes1
:laughing::thumbsup2
Our Andrew is in marching band too in HS. He plays clarinet. Really amazing how well he plays without any real practice:rolleyes:
my DS:sad2:

Megan will be 15 too-actually 2 weeks from being 16.
We went to the new band parent meeting last night at the HS. Oh my! What a HUGE time and money commitment - especially for a kid that does not practice all that much either.

I'm really interested in how they like this... Samantha & I are considering an Antarctica cruise.

Sure thing. We will be out of town this weekend, but after that we are somewhat open.

Technically a Giants fan, but I watched the last Jets game to support them anyway.

Yankees fan here.

You may want to ask your doc specifically about touch rugby, no contact, just with the sand.

What kind of coach are you? Injuries don't matter, its all about the team and winning!

Ok, tough having a Doctor as coach, too reasonable. :rotfl2:

I guess. Just didn't want to be relocating a hip dislocation on the beach.

That would need a whole lot of medication.
