June 21, 2011 - The Wonder breaks the Alaskan icebergs!

From what I've read on the Vancouver planning thread, it's a convenient way to go if you can time your flights accordingly. They caution you not to make tight connections, because there are frequently delays. Also, it doesn't make meal stops, so bring something with you to eat and drink prior to boarding.

We are also paid up! Jennypenny, we are just a few doors down from you in 5500 and my DD will have just turned 16 :)

I had to call DCL to change our dining, so I asked some questions. She said that the schedule calls for
Formal night on the 2nd day (sea day)
semi-formal in Ketchikan
pirate night in Juneau

She said we dock in Ketchikan at 12:30 but they don't guarantee we'll be off the boat before 1:40. She wasn't sure if that meant we were tendering. There are 5 boats in port that day and I haven't checked to see how many Ketchikan can hold.

I called to switch to late dining. When we realized that we were in port until 7:30pm two nights we knew we wouldn't want to rush back to the ship for dinner. I'd rather get snacks in the afternoon and eat at 8pm. Plus, we get to sleep in a little on the last morning.

kveens, we will not be doing the FE. Would you please remove our name from the list. We are in 5128 and 5129. Thanks!

According to the Ketchikan cruise schedule the following ships will be in port on June 26 at these times:

CARNIVAL SPIRIT 07:00 - 13:00
MILLENNIUM 07:00 - 15:00
INFINITY 07:00 - 16:00
REGATTA 07:00 - 20:00
DISNEY WONDER 12:00 - 20:00

Looks like we get tendered in.

I was talking to one of the excursion vendors about this, and she thought that we would take the Carnival Spirit's place on the dock after it left.

Welcome Jenny Penny!:woohoo: I have added you in place of MouseMom11 on our FE list. There are great threads on the main cruise forum regarding FE and how it works, but basically it is going around the ship and adding small gifts to a pocketed holder hanging outside of the participants' stateroom. I am heading it up for this cruise to Alaska. Right now we have 11 families. Most folks spend around $1 to $2 per person or about $5 per cabin, although some may spend more. If you are crafty, those items seem to be highly regarded and talked about long after the cruise is over. If not crafty, pens, candy, notepads, etc are always welcome. Something that repesents your hometown or anything Disney is GREAT! Just have fun with it!:)

That's interesting cuz I had read elsewhere that they weren't doing pirate night in Alaska. Another case of different answers from different CMs? Wonder which is right?

I asked the Concierge team and she only mentioned formal and semi to me, but maybe there is a pirate night, just without the fireworks?

That's how the CM phrased it to me "We're having a pirate night even though we can't do the fireworks." I got the sense that another theme was bounced around but they settled on pirate night. That's fine. I'll be tired that day anyway since we dock at Juneau early in the morning.

I was very suprised that some of the port excurisions didn't start until late afternoon, my DH and DS are going on the Bering Sea Crab boat and they don't leave until 3:45 pm, the rest of us are going to the totem, potllatch, and lumberjack show and that starts at 1:15. Our Skagway excursion starts at noon. Kind of wierd to me, but I guess since it doens't get dark and we will be in port until 7:30 it will be fine. I guess I will have to sleep in :woohoo:!

The Crab boat excursion says it ends at 7:45 and according to what I have seen on the cruise website, we are supposedly leaving port at 7:30 but I figured if we booked with Disney then they have to figure it out, right?? ;)

Other than those few observations everything else is pretty normal. Where do we sign up for galley tours and martini tastings and such?:confused3

Have a great week! Only 120 more days!!!:cheer2:

THose excursions start late because we don't get into port until noon or 1pm. Someone above posted the exact times.

I am so, so envious of your totem/lumberjack/potlatch excursion. I really, really wanted that, but no kids under 5yo and I have 2 of those. What really gets me is that it says "Fun for the entire family!" and "Exclusive Youth Activity". I actually emailed the concierge expressing my annoyance over this and got a crappy reply that annoyed me even more. And there isn't a comparable excursion that kids can do. We're likely doing the Saxman Village and Lumberjack show instead, but it's not the same.

We had a ton of problems booking last night, so glad to hear you could do it DCLXMAS. I'm emailing concierge again to be sure everything is straightened out.

We had a ton of problems booking last night

This is what I'm afraid of. I have to book excursions for 5 people in 2 rooms and Disney's websites always seem to *hiccup* at the wrong times.

We were going to do the lumberjack show and saxton village on our own. But now that I see 5 ships will be in port that day, I'm wondering if we should pay for the Disney excursion to guarantee we get in. (my DH and DSs are dying to see that show) I had only planned on paying for 1 Disney excursion in Skagway, and doing the others on our own. Now I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to get shut out of things, but I hate paying Disney's premium (especially for 5 people--it adds up fast).

Wow, lots of people on deck 5! My cabin is also on deck 5, though the rest of my family is on deck 7. We paid in full, so now I just have to work on our hotel and rental car(s) in Seattle before the cruise.

I'm starting to get REALLY excited about this cruise.

I can't book my excursions until March 8th but wondering if someone who has biiked could get these times for me.....Thanks so much.

Hi everyone! We are on the June 21st cruise, and I'm (obviously) very behind in our planning because this is my first visit to this thread. We are
Karl adult
Jenny adult room 5510

Holly DD15
Will DS 12
Jeremy DS 8 room 5512

Hey Jenny - my dds are about the same age. They are 15 (but will turn 16 by the time of the cruise.)

Jennypenny, we are just a few doors down from you in 5500 and my DD will have just turned 16 :)

DenverVal, I didn't realize your dd was the same age. Mine are turning 16 in a few months. We will have to get the girls together. I know they would love to find some friends to hang out with on the ship.
