June 21, 2011 - The Wonder breaks the Alaskan icebergs!

:( :( We booked for 6/18-6/21. I didn't try it for a single night. I'm sorry it didn't work for you.

I was trying for 2 nights, 6/19 - 6/21 for 4 people.

I booked it anyway. :goodvibes
I found out we could use points from our timeshare program to cover it. I'd been waiting to see if I could get a better deal, but I bit the bullet and just booked it. Can't wait!

If you don't like the day you are assigned, we can always move you to a different day. I am taking suggestions as to what day works best for folks. I know some people really like to put together pirate accessories as their gift, so would want to let them have a day before pirate night. Survival kits probably work best at the beginning of the cruise. Hopefully within a 24 hour period you can get away for 30 minutes or so and make the rounds, LOL.;)

Do we need assigned days? Can't we just do it when we have some free time? That way people who want their stuff given the 1st day can do so and those who want it on day 4 can do that without advance planning.

Can we compromise? If there are no assigned days, the first day or two could be very busy with gift exchanges, while the other 5 days nothing happens at all. We can make an exception for you, that you can give your FE gifts out whenever you care to, but the others of us have an assigned day, so that there are at least one to two gifts per day for kids and adults, too, to look forward to. It just makes more sense to me to stagger the gifts out over the week instead of getting them all at once Cruisers who have done it both ways, would you care to comment which way you prefer?

I will defer to the majority.

Thanks,
Kerri

Your compromise is fine with me. I can't comment on assigned days because every cruise I've done where I participated in the FE was without assigned days. We just gave whenever.

One cruise had a TON of DISers onboard, so many, many FE participants without assigned days. We got a lot of gifts right off the bat, fewer gifts on CC and Nassau days, then a bunch on the next sea day, and maybe 1 or 2 items the last day.

I've done the FE both ways and found it didn't make much of a difference either way. Personally, it doesn't matter to me. I have enough help that someone from our group should be available to do the deliveries.

I don't like the idea of assigned FE days, I think everyone should be able to delivery when it is convenient for them. Our last cruise I delivered FE gifts everyday. My mother is in a wheel chair and it was fun for her to go with me to deliver the gifts. I wasn't planning on every day this trip, but I do have things for pirate night, and the first day at sea and I am just getting started. I think it will be ok, if there are slow days... but I will do whatever the group wants.

Hi all!

I have a favor to ask...my parents are cruising on the June 21, 2011 Alaskan cruise.

I'm scheduling a Helicopter Flight/Glacier Landing for them as a present. I know that they'd like to do the Juneau City & Mendenhall Glacier tour through Disney in the morning.

I'm trying to schedule their helicopter flight with an independent tour operator in the afternoon.

Are there any Gold/Platinum CC members out there willing to look up the excursion time for me for the Juneau City & Mendenhall Glacier tour so that I can schedule the correct time for their helicopter flight?

If they're scheduled to return to the dock at 3:45 p.m., is that cutting it too close to the all aboard time of 4:30 p.m.?

TIA :worship:

I can''t officially confirm if this is accurate since I can't book until March 8th.....but this is what others have said...

Juneau City and Mendenhall Glacier Tour (JU06 CITYMEND)
Day 5 - Juneau
7:45 AM - 11:15 AM
12:15 PM - 3:45 PM

WHOA! :scared1: I guess my subconscious is saying "No assigned days for FE." I had a terrible nightmare that I spent my entire cruise at the rebooking desk in line to rebook our next cruise. The line to rebook resembled the Indiana Jones attraction when it first opened at Disneyland (remember that? Three hours wait minimum.) :headache: So I had no time to deliver FE gifts, and I even forgot to pack the gifts I made. :scared1:

If no one objects, we will just go with the flow and deliver FE gifts whenever we see fit. :thumbsup2

Thanks :) I did see that post, but was hesitant to rely on it since it wasn't for the June 21 cruise. Would you mind if I PM'ed you after March 8th to check? My parents are Silver CC, and their window doesn't open up until 3/23.

So I guess we're doing FEs without assigned days then. Right?

RIGHT! Life is just too short to stress over having several days where the FE remains empty. My 12 year olds are big enough to suck it up. Although I am thinking of delivering on several separate occasions/days, just to ensure that others don't come back to an empty FE day after day, especially those with younger kids.

Will anyone be coordinating a shipboard meet-up? Or is that just too much DIS hoopla?

I believe there was talk of a meet, but no official plans yet. I'm guessing something that 1st afternoon.

My kids won't really notice if there isn't FE stuff daily, as they don't really know it *should* be daily or anything. Kind of just a random surprise to them.

Sorry, Mardonna. I can't book until the 23rd, as I am still Silver CC. Not much help here, I am afraid. Have you looked over at Cruise Critic? There may be info there about booking 2 excursions per day on your own.

I have heard that you can book a 2nd one on board, but never tried it. We're actually thinking about doing that for one of the ports, so I am hoping it's true.

:offtopic:
Since there are so many experienced DISers on here, I just thought I'd ask:
Any idea what happened to my cruise ticker? All of a sudden it is not displaying any more and I haven't tried to edit my signature at all :confused3

We are all set. We are ones that could check in on March 8. I also agree to not have assigned times or whtever for the FE.

I see your ticker! Maybe the website you used to create it was having some temporary trouble?
