**June 2016 check in**

I hope you have a great trip to Walt Disney World!! This is the Disneyland June thread, but you can find the WDW one HERE.

(but to answer the sock question, my kids and I are flip flop wearers at Disney World, but my husband's socks are all mostly moisture wicking...I'm not sure if they're more helpful, but I feel like it can't really hurt anything!!)
Thank you so very much!!!!! Sorry I was on the wrong board!

Yeah, double beds kinda suck but hopefully they're at least comfy.

I think part of my worry is my hotel reservation just disappearing and being helpless. Last time we drove down, so we had the freedom to control where we were going. We're flying this time with a couple of short term car rentals, so I think the dependence on the airline and the hotels to not mess up is making me a little nutty.

We're also driving down to San Diego from DL, which is completely unfamiliar territory. Some days I wonder what I was thinking, as though I bit off more than I can chew.

I'm a natural worry wart so this over thinking thing can't be helped.

We were able to upgrade to the last deluxe room they had available, so we'll now have queen beds!! And be in the same building as guest laundry, so I'm ridiculously excited.

I understand being a natural worry wart - I am too!! I inherited it from my grandmothers, they would be so proud. LOL!!

We're going to drive down the coast a bit too, not sure if we'll make it all the way to San Diego, but it isn't out of the realm of possibility. My real fear is driving in LA. I'm a nervous passenger because of a terrible car accident I was in when I was 19, so my poor DH is used to my panicking. He said he's getting me valium and an eye mask for any heavy traffic, haha!!

My fingers are crossed that everything goes perfectly and smoothly for you during your entire trip!! :-):-)

Planning a surprise mother/daughter trip for myself and my 13-yr old ... June 23-27. I'm planning 3 Disney days, and one at universal. I know WDW very well, but have only been to Disneyland a couple of times, most recently in 2009. Reading the boards I am starting to get nervous/overwhelmed.

I have our flights and tickets researched out/ready to buy. I reserved a room at Quality Inn & Suites Anaheim Resort and am really nervous about it. We fly (from Oregon) on June 23 into SNA, land at 9:05am. Hoping to check in/leave luggage and head straight to the parks. We will likely spend Thursday 23rd, Friday 24th at Disney, sat 25th at Universal, then Sunday 26th back at Disney, with an early flight Monday the 27th to get her back for a 1pm volleyball camp! I know it will be busy, but am excited. Just overwhelmed with making the best travel/motel arrangements, then planning the days.

We have been to WDW I think 5 times, but not since 2011. Any great plans of attack? Or ideas on deals? I'm doing tickets through ARES (mousesavers link) for 3-day hoppers + 1 universal. Flights will be part miles, part pay, hotel was through booking buddy, but I think $159/night feels REALLY high. I would LOVE to just splurge and stay onsite, but I just can't. We do have a Disney visa, but I have gotten zero offers :(.

I'd love any tips or insight.thanks!!!

Okay, digging again, well past midnight, now considering a switch to getawaytoday.com to book --- at Doubletree Hilton Anaheim (100 the city drive) .... Seems like a SO much nicer hotel that Quality Inn and maybe better for girls traveling alone? Shuttle seems pretty good, and free breakfast doesn't matter so much... Just concerned about time to get to the park.

I might spend just a wee bit more (a few dollars really) as the hotel comes with my ticket, and I have to buy the universal tix separately. But I feel better with this choice,

Thoughts?

Hi everyone, I did update my own meet thread but thought I'd post here, too since it is last minute...if anyone would like to meet up at DL tomorrow, Monday, June 6th please PM me :)

First page updated!!

We start vacation a week from today, driving to our flight departure city before catching our morning plane, so I've been working on our packing list, and trying on clothes I've bought over the past few weeks. Got my Lilly Pulitzer order yesterday, which was exciting, but then I started trying things on. Last night the shorts were so tight I couldn't button them, this morning when I went to show my husband how awful they were they fit perfectly (what?!?!?), and then this afternoon when I was planning outfits they were tight again (but wearable, just not what I'd consider comfortable all day in the park or out exploring). A lot of my new sleeveless tops have arm holes that are just long enough to show my bra, which is also maddening. *sigh*

I told DH I'm going to buy a bunch of big sloppy tshirts and wear them with my old ratty sweat pants and call my vacation wardrobe complete, LOL!!

Still haven't tried on my bathing suit...saving that for in the morning, since apparently nighttime try ons don't work for me!

12 days left...I gave my house a good cleaning today...I am just starting a second job at our new movie theater which is opening Thurs and my son has been picked for all star baseball and practice starts tomorrow so I have a feeling these next 12 days are gonna be hectic and I am also figuring we wont be home a ton so maybe it will stay clean!!! I got the kids new packs of socks and underwear today (its just easier) and I have there flight entertainment packed in their backpacks with the exception of tablets of course. I am gonna pick me up a few more shirts tomorrow, I am a nurse so my wardrobe consist of scrubs lol I also am waiting for my tickets and stuff from getaway, I know sometimes they send little freebies like luggage tags and cant remember if they have that going on now if not im gonna have to get some.

That hotel is much farther away than it suggests , google it. The close Doubletree is on HARBOR. The shuttle I believe is ART from the one you are asking about not dedicated from the hotel.

As a long time AP holder I suggest going as close as possible. Some favorites are Tropicana, Desert Inn and suites , Candy Cane Inn, Best Western Park Place Inn , Grand Legacy, Carousel Inn or Camelot Inn and suites.

I dont know about that hotel or what price you are looking at but getawaytoday.com has good rates at stanford inn and suites also and I think it is closer...if u want really close you can go with park vue in but gat.com doesnt have that one

48 hours from now we will have already boarded our plane and will be about ready to take off :scared1:. I can finally say that we have all of our packing pretty much done, except for the the things we will have to throw in our bags the morning of our departure. Yesterday I cleaned my house, with the help of the kids, and have been doing non stop laundry (sometimes I think it will never end). Things are progressing nicely, just have to do a few more things around the house and then sit back and just wait (except for when I have to go to work tomorrow)....can't believe we are finally counting down the hours, it really doesn't feel real that we are leaving so soon yet, then again knowing me, it probably won't feel real until we are at the airport.

I do want to thank everyone on this board, you all are such fun people to hang out with and talk about our crazy planning and such. You all really have helped me out with my questions that I had. I hope everyone has/is having/did have a Magical time on their vacations :goodvibes.

48 hours!! Woohoo!! Our plane takes off in one week and one hour...not that I'm counting - ha!

It's so nice to have things all taken care of, but that last bit of waiting is so hard! Last year we flew out of our home airport (20 mins away) on a 1:30pm flight to WDW. We thought we were so lucky, having all that time in the morning to relax and get ready to fly. We all ended up dressed and ready by 9am, antsy and making ourselves crazy, LOL!!

We had family here Thurs - Sat, and my house was all nice and clean, which I thought would be a good starting point for the week ahead, but I got up this morning and looked around, and I think I have to start all over again. My chihuahua loves to rip apart her stuffed animals, and there is animal fluff allllllllllll over. She must have had a lot of fun last night!!

Come back and let us know how things went on your trip and maybe we'll cross paths when our dates overlap!

Thank you, and nice!! Queen beds are so much better!

I'm with you on fear of traffic for similar reasons. The last time we travelled, we drove down and got stuck in stop and go traffic. I really, really want to go to Universal but the thought of driving there is a giant turn off. We are Portland natives who transplanted to an area where rush hour traffic is nonexistent, so tolerance for it is super low.

I would like to drive down the coast to San Diego, but we'll see. I was originally going to take Amtrak down, but found a 5-day car rental for only $30 more than the cost of 3 one way tickets. Here's to both of us not going cray cray!

On a side note, the local heat has set me back on preparations. I work 10 hour days until the night we leave, and we've had 100+ and 90+ degree heat. Today isn't supposed to be much better.

Good heavens I've been checking wait times today and they are through the roof! I know it's summer but you usually don't see these kinds of waits by 12:00. I'm heading next week looks like it's going to be a insanely crowded summer.

My friend is there right now. We've been texting and she said it's packed!! She thought going Mon-We'd would be good but she said it's pretty bad! I'm headed there next week too and their are two grad nights while we are there and I'm pretty sure it's gonna be crazy!

We plan to get a lot done in the mornings!

Yikes!!! I should go and check out the wait times myself. We will be there in a couple of days and that is one thing I am a little nervous about, however, we are morning people (plus we are coming from the Central Time Zone so we will be up early anyways) so we plan on being at the parks right at rope drop and get as much done as possible (plus of course we will be utilizing FPs as much as we can) and then head back to the resort (we are staying at VGC) when it gets crowded for some R&R and swimming, then we will head back to the park for dinner and the night time activities. We already have it planned that we will be going really slow because we anticipated that the crowds will be crowded between the grad nights, the fact that it is of course June, and the 60th Anniversary is still going on. Thanks for the heads up though.

As of right now...

Hyperspace Mountain 110 minutes

RSR 80 minutes

Most of the other biggies 45-65 minutes.

Reading where some are taking a whale and dolphin cruise. While we see many dolphins on the Gulf coast.. we do not see any whales. Any recommendations on a good whale watching cruise?

Thanks
Someone else may have had a different experience, but we've gone on a whale / dolphin sightseeing trip the last two summers in June and did not see any whales either year. I've read that March is the time to see them. FWIW, we saw hundreds of dolphins. I don't know if this is normal everywhere or not, but when I say hundreds, it might be more accurate to say thousands. Both trips, the boat traveled with them and the pods completely surrounded the boat, traveling together for quite some distance. -we went out of Newport.

Went grocery shopping for the little bits of perishables to get us through the next few days! I am also working on strategic laundry. :laundy:

I got an email that whale numbers were up for May, so maybe we will get lucky. Of course I also read that shark numbers are up as well. :scared1: Even if we don't see whales, as I told someone, "Hey, we're from the Midwest. We will just be happy to se ocean." :thumbsup2

Did my sparse shopping for the week too...my inlaws stay at our house with our 4 dogs while we're on vacation, and they don't like my food so they bring their own anyway, LOL!!!
The Facebook page for our whale touring company has been posting recent pictures of their sightings over the past few days...lots of dolphins, but several whales too!

After the Corona Del Mar shark bite event, more shark sightings closed beaches this week. I'm hoping we see some!! (but not while IN the water)
