We just booked a surprise trip for our kids (and us!) June 8-13. We'll be driving from Utah, with a 10, 6 and 22 month old, so we'll leave 6/7 and stay in Vegas for the night. My 10 year old DS is DYING to go Legoland, and has been begging for years. Since he's on the bubble of getting too old for it, we're reluctantly getting City Passes instead of 5 day park hoppers like we typically do. I'm not super excited about Legoland, but he will be on cloud 9, and sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do, right?
We usually go in mid-November or the first week of December, so I'm a little bit leery of the crowds. We went in July in 2011 and it was crazy. Definitely wasn't my favorite time to go, but I'm hoping June will be just a titch bit better. Probably wishful thinking. Because of our family schedules and weddings we need to travel for in the fall, it was either June or not until next year. And since it's been over 2 years since our last trip, there was no way I was letting some crowds stand in my way.
I'm pretty leery of the grad nights, too, so I'm thinking we'll split our trip a bit. We'll arrive around 10-11 am on the 8. I'm thinking we'll do Legoland that first day, and then drive to our hotel in Anaheim. We're staying at the Anaheim Marriott Suites. We've stayed there several times and always get a good deal. Then I think we'll do Disneyland on the 9th, Sea World and some San Diego stuff on the 10th, and finish at Disney on the 11 and 12. I'm pretty bummed they added more grad nights to the calendar, meaning 2/3 of our Disney days will be grad nights, which is disappointing. We talked about staying somewhere closer to San Diego/Carlsbad for Legoland and Sea World and then coming up to Anaheim, but moving hotels with pack and plays and three kids is kind of a huge PITA. Plus, if Sea World or Legoland are a bust, we can always add an extra day to our park hoppers.
We almost never book dining ahead of time. I thought that was just a WDW thing? We ate at Cafe Orleans once at weren't super impressed (blasphemy to some, I know). We usually eat breakfast at the hotel before leaving in the AM, have a snack, leave the park for lunch and a toddler nap, and then pick up a pizza or something before returning in the evening. I'm worried with only 3 days at the parks, plus the crowds it's going to be hard to leave mid-day. But my toddler without a nap sounds harder. Hubby wants to skip Sea World and add a Disney day, but I feel like it's such a waste since it's included in our passes. Not sure what our final plan will be! We're always fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants kind of travelers, and change things up last minute a lot. If you've got better suggestions, we'd love to hear them.
