June 18, 2011 - 11 Night Mediterranean Sailing from Barcelona

We'll be arriving in Barcelona on the 15th and staying at the Novatel. Would love to know who else will be staying at the Novatel. Thinking of watching the Magic Fountain/light show of Montjuic either on Thursday or Friday night (June 16 or 17 respectively). Anyone interested in meeting up for Tapas then the light show...the more the merrier???

Don't forget Las Ramblas for famillies and sight seeing!

We are flying Air Canada from Toronto to Frankfurt (arrive Frankfurt at 8:00am) and then Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Barcelona (depart Frankfurt at 9:00am:scared1:). A tight connection, but I have been assured that it's within the allowable margins! AC & Lufthansa are Star Alliance partners, so it's entirely possible that we are on the same flight:yay:! That would be so cool! I think it leaves Toronto around 5:30pm on Tuesday! We are all in row 3 seated beside each other (in that configuration there are only 3 "pods" per row)!!

One week to go!!!

TIP: I always check with ground agents and on board if I need to pick up my luggage during my connection... makes the hour less stressful!

We arrive in Barcelona on the morning of the 16th. We're staying at the Hilton Diagonal Mar. Anyone else arriving early and staying at the Hilton?

They said it could be all the way up until we get to the ship to find out where we will be. We got our documents already, but we have Disney air and transfers. I am not sure if that is why we have our documents already.

UGH I am unable to email unless I post 10. Bottom line... Rome In Limo for the port with vatican historian at 730 am on the 22nd. About the excursion from Civitavecchia:( pick up time recommended:7:45 a.m.) Here is the detail... let me know if you want to join. I can request a bigger car and see the price. I don't know if you need to join the Coliseum or Vatican with us but will check.

Your driver-guide will pick you up at the ship to start your tour. Enjoy a leisurely one hour drive through the Etruscan countryside straight to Piazza Venezia, the main square of the City. Start by exploring the Rome of the Emperors. Stops will be made at the Roman Forum, the Coliseum and the Mouth of Truth.
Then take a panoramic drive past the Circus Maximus, the Palatine Hill and the Baths of Caracalla.
Back in the heart of Rome, stop for a visit inside the Pantheon, the best conserved monument of Ancient Rome as well as the nearby Santa Maria Sopra
Minerva housing Michelangelo's "Risen Christ" .
Continue through Baroque and Renaissance Rome: from piazza Navona to Campo de Fiori and Piazza Farnese.
See Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. Stroll through the narrow streets admiring statues, fountains and discovering curiousities.
You can stop for an optional lunch and enjoy traditional Italian cuisine.
After lunch your tour continues to the Vatican City: the Vatican Museum where an exceptional
collection of artwork from every era is on display, treasures collected by the Popes throughout the centuries and the Sistine Chapel, frescoed
by Michelangelo and St. Peter's Basilica.
After the Vatican, your tour ends with transfer back to the ship. (estimated arrival to the port around 5:30/ 6:00 p.m.);

We have 2.5 hours private guided tour of the Vatican Museums, Sistin Chapel and St. Peter Basilica with licensed art historian.
Rate for the private guided tour is: EURO 140( the whole group tickets non included).
Entrance fee not included in my rates : Coliseum Euro 12; Vatican Museums & Sistin Chapel Euro 15;

In the meantime, I will be looking for posts to make .... carolinaski

First, let me tell you that Corsica was one of my fav destinations last year and i'm looking forward to it this year. Just a word of advice - there is an AWESOME outdoor market right off the ship as you depart. However, the market closes early so be sure and get your stuff or you'll miss out. Best deli meat I have ever had.

We are SSSOOO into a beach day in Corsica... I think its Sunday also??? Do you know the name of the second beach recommended to walk to? Just wondering...

I don't reacall ever hearing a name, but if you just keep walking past the first one a bit you can't miss it. The beach area or sand area, just starts to get a lot bigger. On the first beach there are a lot of rocks and not much sand area.

I'm sure you are all much more organised than me but I have been trying to complete online check in for a week now and I get an error on the pre/post cruise section. I have contacted DCL but I was wondering if anyone else had a problem?

What are you doing pre or post? Do you have Disney transfers?
What are you trying to enter?

it's the section where you include your flight details to and from the cruise and where you are going after the cruise etc.

I enter all my info but when I save It goes to an error page. It's not an error in something that I am inputting, more a error with the website.

I had problems also. I could input information but it wouldn't be stored. I finally had to call Disney and get help.

Anyone else checked out of real life yet? I think my coworkers wish my body would finally go and join my brain that is already on the cruise!

FYI- I got an email from my guide in Rome. She said that there would be 4 or 5 other ships on the 22nd and that the Vatican will be a push fest (her words).

She's suggesting we skip it but I just don't think we can!

Just wanted to pass along the information.

Thanks for posting the link for the navigators! So exciting. Also, did you guys see the thread on the main board about VAT for the cruise? Basically, because we no longer stop in Tunisia we are hit with VAT for things we buy on the cruise ship. US passport holders can reclaim some at the airport, depending on amount spent in one store. It's explained better in the post: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2736802

So checked out. And this week at work has been endless!!!

There are often 4 or 5 ships in port. Don't skip the Vatican. It is enormous, and if you have your tickets reserved ahead of time (which you should), only the Sistine Chapel and a few other bottlenecks will really feel crowded.

We dapart from Toronto at 5:30PM on Lufthansa, then we dapart Frankfurt at 9:50AM and arrive BCN at 11:45AM. I think we are on different flights.

We will also be on the 9:50 flight leaving Frankfurt and arriving 11:45 in Barcelona. Maybe we'll run into each other!
