June 18, 2011 - 11 Night Mediterranean Sailing from Barcelona

Here it goes! There were 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 kiddos on an 11 night med last Aug.

330 EURO Barcelona total for 2 days - included Taxi to ship ( 30 euro), metro and train for 2 days (43 euro), all food and snacks, beer to bring on ship, Hard Rock and Starbucks cafe souvies (70 euro) and some of your cheapo souvies throughout town.FYI we ate two of our meals at Subway which was about 15 euro each time. One dinner we ate in town was 45 euro.

109 EURO total in Malta, 50+5 tip for taxi to palace, Mdina and Blue Grotto about 3 to 3 1/12 hours. 21 euro for 3 people for grotto boat ride, about 30 euro for snacks and cheap souvies.

80 euro for taxi to Sidu bsaid ( I know I spelled that way wrong) and souvies in Tunisia

I am reposting this budget for those of you (like me) who are now trying to figure out how much cash to bring. Yes, I know we can get more, but I wanted to at least have a clue so I found this earlier in the thread.

Thank you to Makaylee for the original post.

270 EURO in Naples- 200 for cab to Positano which I do NOT recommend. The traffic is horrible and the roads are super windey, add that with your standard taxi driver and you get car sickness, both of my kiddos threw up. I had to take the ferryback with them (16 euro for 1A and 2 C) There is just not enought time to try to go to the Amalfie Coast. Next time we are sticking with the ferries to Capri and Sorrento. 13 for souvies, and the rest for pizza and gellato.

ROME we stayed on the ship as we had just visited a few months before. It is only 9 euro to take the train here though.

63 EURO in La Spezia, 22 euro for 2 A and 1 C for the day train and trail pass to Cinque Terra, 38 euro for beer, pizza and the best canoli's ever!

62 Euro in Corsica- 25 for a lunch of sandwiches at a corner cafe, 10 euro for crepes and gelato, the rest on souvies, they have really pretty costume jewelry in there outdoor market by the ship.

50 EURO in Villefranche- 9 euro for bus to and from Monaco and Nice. 30 euro for beer crepes and ice creams, 11 for cheap souvies

Our ship account (not counting $540 in tips which I paid in cash) for the 11 days was $896. $160 of that was a purse, $110 were 2 sweatshirts, $45 for laundry, $100 for beer, $150 total for 2 Palo brunches and one dinner. $150 for our photo package and the rest was other souvineers.

Hope this helps your budget planning. Remember, you can really spend as little or as much as you want on board.

Finally cancelled this excursion we had set up for Palermo. I never received an answer from Disney about how they would shorten the program to accommodate the new shore times. Very disappointing.

You can ask about it at the port adventure desk when you board to see what they have to say and maybe rebook then if it fits your needs

That's exactly what I thought I'd do, although I suspect the answer won't help much. Way too much time proportionally on the bus now.

I finally found a Tapas bar close to The Font Magica. It's called Quimet & Quimet. It's suppose to be reasonably priced and really good. It's on C/ Poeta Cabanyes (L3 on the Metro, Paral-lel station). If I'm not mistaken it's one stop away from the Font Magica. The fountain show doesn't start until 9:30PM, so I'm thinking meeting up at Quimet & Quimet around 7PM (they open at 7PM).

From Fodor's Barcelona's 25 Best:

Mam i Teca:
Tiny hole-in-the-wall with few tables and a small bar. Local foodies love the regional tapas that changes most days. Top-notch ingredients.
Carrer de Luna 4, 93 441 33 35 Closed Tuesday & lunch
Subway: Sant Antoni

Anima
This trendy place near the MACBA trumps other eateries in the vicinity by matching the quality of its food to the decor. A preferred place for lunch with local creative types who get there early for the outdoor terrace
Carrer de Angels 6
93 342 49 12
Subway: Liceu

Either would be fine with me, but I would prefer the first as it is a tapas place and I am really looking forward to trying out these tasty delicacies!

Mam i Teca sounds great too. We can meet there around 7PM. Again, anyone interested is more than welcome to join us.

Oops, posted the first one incorrectly. Mam i Teca sounds great. We can meet there around 7 PM before heading out to the Font Magica.

How will we recognize each other?

Are we on the same flight from Toronto?!

Corsica is just beautiful to walk around, it's a small island. The market right in the port area is great. The 2nd beach down is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon and only about a 20 or so minute walk.

We are flying Air Canada from Toronto to Frankfurt (arrive Frankfurt at 8:00am) and then Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Barcelona (depart Frankfurt at 9:00am:scared1:). A tight connection, but I have been assured that it's within the allowable margins! AC & Lufthansa are Star Alliance partners, so it's entirely possible that we are on the same flight:yay:! That would be so cool! I think it leaves Toronto around 5:30pm on Tuesday! We are all in row 3 seated beside each other (in that configuration there are only 3 "pods" per row)!!

One week to go!!!

We dapart from Toronto at 5:30PM on Lufthansa, then we dapart Frankfurt at 9:50AM and arrive BCN at 11:45AM. I think we are on different flights.

We meet Thursday night, June 16. We are a family of four and are asians. It will be DH, DS15, DS13 and myself. And I believe Mam i Teca is a small place. I'm sure we'll see each other :)

We will try to meet too. If we don't make it to tapas, we will meet at the fountain. We are also a family of 4. DH, DD 8.5, DS 6.5 and me.
