June 18, 2011 - 11 Night Mediterranean Sailing from Barcelona

We're using Corsica as our relaxing port day and doing the beach on our own.

:scared1: FINALLY :sad2:

Last night I was finally able to get into the tabs to book Palo, Excursions and Spa.... of course most of the reservations for 4 at Palo were gone, so I booked two parties of two. Now I know I can fix it if we board early but I didn't want to board early. DH gets into BCN Friday evening and I wanted to tour BCN with him before we board so that he can see the city..... It is just frustrating..... enough about that!

Here's what we're doing:

Malta - looking into a private tour with Blue Grotto
Palermo - Right now we're taking DCL's A Trip to the Farm, may change it
Naples - Private tour with Pompeii
Rome - Private tour
La Spezia - Family Cooking Class in Lucca, Climb the Tower in Pisa
Corsica - Our "whatever" day, it looks like the Napoleon Museum is closed on Sundays
Villefrenche - DD's and I are doing DCL's Perfumer's Apprentice. DH will do something else with my MIL and DSD.

It's going to be here before we know it! :cheer2:

This will be our 4th Disney cruise, all on the Magic. This cruise (leaving June 18) is the only way my husband could get me, a nervous traveler, to go to Europe.

So now I see all that is going on in Libya and then read about potential strikes during the time we fly into Barcelona.

Am I being unreasonably nervous about traveling and cruising the mediterranean during this turmoil?

I don't think you need to be overly concerned. I used to be a nervous traveler too. But I've changed my attitude over the years (and after so many awesome travel memories) and now consider traveling to be one Big Adventure.

Also keep in mind that Disney is very conservative and will not put any passengers in danger. They keep a very close eye on what's happening overseas.

Buy travel insurance for the worry about not making travel connections. Rely on Disney to use a high degree of caution to stay away from any dangerous activities.

Thought I'd jump in as we're going to Paris and London too. The overnight train was very expensive when I priced it. And after my experience on Amtrak with my DD's last summer, I've learned that I don't sleep well on trains.... So we're taking Vueling Airlines. Very low base fare and then they add for bags, seat assignments, etc.

We're taking the Eurostar from Paris to London.

We are also taking Vueling Airlines from Barcelona to Paris Orly on June 29. Are we on the same flight? Ours departs at 10:40 a.m. I found this flight on Expedia for a total cost for the four of us of just over $400. This is in contrast to the flight our travel agent located for us on Air Europa (operated by Air France) that would have cost $2,400 for the four of us!

I never bought travel insurance before and we travel a lot. For this trip I did though because of multiple reasons. I was surprised to find total coverage for $300 that covered air travel, missed connections, terorist issues, air strikes, death of family members (extended fam), even $500K for evacuation and medical costs, previous conditions, etc.... Really a good investment considering this is a $13K trip without spending cash for my family.

Hi Kevin! Which insurance company did you use?

I went to www.squaremouth.com which gave me multiple quotes. I used travel insured the world edition policy. They were rated highly on other web sites I found.

I am looking at that policy (thanks for the link). Having trouble understanding...do you read it as they will cover for death of family member not on trip? Have an old frail MIL
Thanks

One reason I got the insurance was because of a sick brother. They told me it covered him if he were to pass away and I had to cancel my trip. I called the Insurance company directly to ask a few questions like that. They were very helpful and able to clearly answer them.

Any one planning on doing up there doors ?

We had jordak make us magnets last year. He is not doing anymore right now, so we will probably just use all of the ones from last year that are not dated.

I put magnets on our door last year and will do it again. I have Mickey ears to put above the room number and I'll probably make some other magnets. Last year I modified a deckchair graphic that I found.

anyone good at doing Logo's we don't have one for this cruise yet

Please feel free to share your ideas

If you're into modifying graphics and printing your own this site is a good one for Disney graphics. You can purchase magnetic paper that runs trough your at home printer.

There's a good Mickey Head with the new Mediterranean itinerary map on it....I think I may use it and add the date for our cruise on it :)

We're going at 2:45 pm.... but I spent a little more and purchased the tickets that you can change the departure time on without penalty. If DH decides he doesn't want a quick look at BCN then we'll go earlier.
