June 16, 2007 MedHead Cruisers

On Olbia, I got this from a fellow cruiser that just returned and had a stop in Olbia. The beach we'd been talking about was Pittulongu Beach, which is just north of Olbia."

Thanks Jeff, we have a landmark to shoot for.

Right now I am in passport hell - sorry

Still don't have those darn things and passport office keeps telling me one day and then nada

My congressman has been trying to also

sigh

OMG! Let us know! As Virgil said did you try your Senator? Are you able to drive to a Passport Center? I guess probably not or you would have done that by now.

Here's the double good luck: pixiedust: pixiedust: :shamrock: :shamrock: :genie: :genie:

In your backyard??? Legal or illegal??? :rotfl2:

My DH would say, "what docs?" I fully expect him to ask me on the way to the airport . . . "Now, where are we going again?" I'm not kidding. He always leaves all the planning up to me and just comes along for the ride. He knows we're on the Disney Med cruise and flying to Barcelona, but thats about it. Probably a good thing. If we were both type A, there would be big trouble.

My DD (7) told me tonight that she has a sore throat. I told her that NO, shes not allowed to get sick during the last week of school and only a week before we leave for Spain!!!

John, check out the cruise critic sight under destinations. There is a little bit of info there on beaches. I think Olbia would be a good destination to rent a car. I wonder if there is a car rental agency at the port. If not, its probably too much of a hassle for just 1 day.

You'll have to wait & see. I will tell you it's not "funny brownies" because I can't cook!

Jodie,
How is Jill doing with her sore throat?

Need to get my youngest daughter set-up with some friends as well. The 11-12 year old Princess Club has been a great success. They are on page 9 of their thread after one week plus IM time. There are a number of 6-7-8 year old princesses on this cruise as well. The 6-7 years old will be in the club and the 8 year olds will be in the lab but it is important that they know some friends in advance. Here is a list:

Pillow............. 2122............. Jill (7)
jmcdonnell04... 2146............. Kelly (7)
CarolMB.......... 8560............. Sarah (6)
Wonder.......... 6066............. Elizabeth (6) & Mary Grayson (7)

BMR12........... 6082............. Kate (8)
JSMom2......... 6583............. Jasmine (8)

Welcome to our "humble" group JsMom2! I think we do have a nice group. Last cruise we were on we didn't chat on the dis board because we always felt like they were only talking to each other & didn't invite new people. Not so with this group! :thumbsup2

I noticed on on another thread a question came up about appropriate attire for the Vatican. The usual no sleeveless shirts or pants that fell above the knees. Then someone mentioned open toed shoes. I don't think open toed shoes were an issue for the Vatican, gees even Jesus wore sandals.

Marla, after reading of your nightmares I'm glad I spent the extra $$ for expedited processing of our passports. My daughter and I got ours within two weeks. We will wish good things for you! pixiedust:

"Hi,
Just got back from our cruise. We got the port free shuttle bus to just outside Olbia town, then a five min walk into town centre, small not much there, saw a taxi rank, got taxi to the beach you mentioned, cost 20 euros each way (on meter),approx 15- 20 mins drive, taxi driver was great, picked us up when he said he would, there are a few restaurants along the beach and beach was lovely. Had a really nice day. Our 5 year old daughter was quite happy."

THANKS Jeff!!! Finally some good concrete info on Olbia.

Thanks for asking. She woke up feeling OK this morning - hopefully just a temporary allergy thing. I'm printing kids list out to take with me. My daughter is shy, and it will be nice to have a few "friends" on board.

Hi - You can add my DD Christine age 7 to the list. She'll be so excited to meet other girls:yay: I love how she makes friends, this was difficult for me when I was her age. This is going to be a great vacation!

I'm trying to get caught up on the thread, but does someone have a recap of all the plans? I know that I definitely like to see the suite. You all sound like so much fun. I can't wait to meet you all in person!
Wendy

Hi Wendy and welcome!

Recap of the plans for the Disboarders...

On the 15th, some of the early arrivers are meeting for dinner.

There is the Roy Suite meet hosted by the generous LeiLani on June 16th.

Also on the 16th, some are meeting for lunch aboard ship at 1:30 pm, is it?

During the first sea day there will be an exchange of small mementos/gifts at place TBD...

That's all I got in terms of organized get-togethers. Various groups are doing both Disney and private tours together too. :)

I have an idea for those of us doing ports on our own. I'm wondering if we could set up a meeting place the night before each port so that those of us going on our own can meet, compare notes, make plans for travelling with others, etc. I know for Palermo, we were gonna talk at Leilani's party. Do you guys think this would be helpful or not? May be hard to figure out a meeting time cause of excursions, dinner plans, etc. For example, we could say . . . lets meet at 10:00pm the night before in X lounge for just 15 minutes to compare notes for the next day.

Let me know what you guys think.

-Jodie

I'm Wendy (44) and DD is Jasmine (yes I named her after the Princess, but that was before I met her!)

Regarding the Temperature formula, I know a Xavier student can do the math. My wife said I was weird that I knew the formula off the top of my head. I am always good for useless information but it now very useful information.

Sorry to hear about your phone mishap. Did you take the opportunity to upgrade?
Well, it was either buy a new phone or pay an $18 replacement fee. I want to save all my money and I don't really care what kind of phone I have so I just paid the same fee and they'll mail me a new phone by Friday. I never realized how dependent upon my cell phone I am until I broke it!!
Cell phones....
They should all work on the ship, you just need to check with your carrier if they are carried by disney. If they aren't you'll get your international fee plus whatever fee disney charges to use their network.
Call your phone company and see if they are carried by disney.

I still need to call disney and check on the att thing, paperwork says yes, but att/cingular says no.

we'll see.....
Thanks for the info. I will call Cincinnati Bell.

OMG that sounds AWFUL. TONS of pixie dust sent your way.:wizard: Keep us updated, I'm sure it'll all work out.

I have a funny story. At least I thought it was funny....

Ever since I was little I have journaled all of our family vacations. Last night I was cleaning out my desk and I came upon my journal of our last Disney cruise which was 7 years ago. I was reading it and I had written that we were in staterooms 2138 and 2140. Those are the same staterooms we're in this time and I didn't even pick them...the travel agent did!!! I found that to be pretty ironic because when I booked this cruise the TA asked if I had any room location preferences and I said no and then she just happened to pick the same 2 rooms as last time! I found that to be pretty interesting... :scratchin

Sounds like a great idea to me. Definitely need a meeting place that serves adult beverages.

You guys are awesome, thank you for all the welcome messages! I can't wait to let Jasmine know about the girls her age who will be there.

I'm an AF officer, stationed in Belgium, so we won't have the jet-lag problem that most of you will encounter. I know only too well how hard the first couple days can be after an overseas flight. I just wanted to offer a couple of tips for your flights over here:

Pickup some Airborne and start taking it a day prior to boost your immune system.

Try to shift your schedules up a couple hours the week before you come here, so you you don't have as many hours to make up.

Take a sleeping pill or dramameine on the plane and SLEEP on the way over. I know it's tempting to stay up and watch the movie or talk about the trip, but don't do it!! I've found that a sleep mask, neck pillow, and earplugs really help.

Also, if you make your seat assignments online, book an empty seat between each member of your party. The airlines always fill the middle seats in the back of the plane last. You may get lucky and have 2 seats each - or at least enough room for the kids to stretch out. If by chance the plane is full, chances are the person in the middle will be happy to swap for an aisle or window seat so you can sit next to your kids. If not, just tell the kid to say loudly "I think I'm gonna throw up!"

Once you get here take the Airborne for the first couple days to ward off any new bugs in the air.

And of course hand gel, wet wipes, and the travel rolls of toilet paper come in very handy in Europe.

I hope this is helpful.

Wendy

HI Wendy, I was going to ask you what branch. I have a son who is stationed at Mildenhall. He's a maintenance crew chief (Staff Sergeant) on a KC135....

I wish I could switch my schedule. I'm working every day until Wednesday when we leave. Trying not to catch anything from my patients...

Hi Virgil,
We had KC135s at Grand Forks AFB - we came here from North Dakota last summer. I'm sure you are very proud of your son.

If you haven't been yet, you'll have to visit Shades of Green at WDW!

See you aboard!
