June 10, 2012 Dream 5-Night Double-Dip

Question of the Day:
Have you bought anything yet in preparation for this cruise?

So far, I've only bought trip insurance. :rotfl: I'm really trying to be good. However, my sister suggested that we hit up White House|Black Market this weekend (she's got a coupon and they're running a sale) to see if we find any fabulous cruise clothes. I only own one dress. :rolleyes1

Nothing Yet, but I always check out the $1 area of Target. Found some great calendars for our last Disney Cruise.

I am currently busy being the travel advisor for my parents 40th Anniversary cruise this September, we have about 20 cabins full of family and friends going (unfortunately it is on ANOTHER cruise line).

We will definitely book Palo but probably only once since this is a short cruise. We enjoy both brunch and dinner and haven't really decided what we will do this time.
We have left the kids on the boat once but it really was just for a few hours. I felt a bit weird about it at first until I realized many people do it. The kids just love it in there anyway.
Nassau- I would prefer to stay on the boat. That will be the plan but I've learned to be flexible with plans. Last cruise our kids made great friends with fellow shipmates and sometimes they wanted to hang out with them or I ended up with an extra kid hanging out with us. Or we'd make plans with a family we met. Or with the flow
Haven't bought anything for the cruise this time. Usually I have a big drawer of fish extender stuff by now. But we are moving in 2 months and destashing right now. I will buy at least one matching family cruise outfit usually t-shirts

Hi everyone! I booked this cruise a few months ago but am just getting around to posting here. This will be my family's first cruise and I can't wait. Our group (and ages at time of sailing) - me (28), my 2 brothers (25 & 11) and my mom and dad (better not go there since they might see this lol). I'm the only Disney vacation fanatic of the family, but somehow I always convince them to come along. ;)

I look forward to chatting with everyone, especially as we get closer to sailing away.

-Amber

Welcome, Amber and Family!

I am sure my son (11 at time of sailing) will be thrilled to meet your little brother in the Edge!

Thanks for the welcome! My brother is very sociable and has already warned us we probably won't see him much because he'll be with all of his new friends! I'm sure they will have a lot of fun. :)

Welcome, SingingFlower! I added you to the roll call in the first post. (Not sure if I got the abbreviations correct for brothers--I'm new at this).

Haven't posted much lately, we are getting ready to head to WDW in two weeks. But we are still on board for this cruise. Welcome to the newbies! I am super excited to read the first double-dip trip reports, which should be happening soon.

So jealous that you're heading to WDW soon! Have a great trip!

I'm looking forward to 9 days from now....June 10 2011...because then we're only 1 year away!

EEEEK! We are exactly 1 year away from our cruise! Anybody else beyond excited about that?

Question of the Day: Is anyone going to run the Castaway Cay 5k?

I'm thinking about it. I used to run, I've ran a few 5k's and 3 half-marathons. But I'm not a natural runner, those races were very hard on my body.

OOOOhhhh! You're right. I had forgotten about the "anniversary" but I am super excited now! :)

But, um... no. I am pretty darn sure I won't be running the Castaway Cay 5K. I am not a runner and watching my co-worker has definitely turned me off of running. (She's having her hip replaced in July. She's 47. Her surgeon blames her 30 years of recreational running. I knew there was a good reason to be a couch potato!)

Hello everybody! DH and I will be sailing with you on June 10th! Please add us to the list and we are also interested in FE exchange. We don't have any children but have enjoyed sailing with DCL 4 times. We really love the adult areas and activities DCL has to offer. We just got off the 5 night double dip cruise on Sun. If you have any questions about the Dream, feel free to ask. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back next year!

Welcome, Time4Disney! Glad to hear you had a great double-dip!

Ok, I have questions for you!

Were the lines a little more manageable/more relaxed since people had 5 days on board to get things done? (like boarding, Aqua Duck, etc.)?

Did you participate in the FE? How many cabins?

Did you dine at Palo? Was it easier to get a reservation online before the cruise since there are more nights to eat there?

Totally missed the "one" year anniversary....YEAH! We were busy touring Toronto and Niagara Falls. I have been thinking that I can look into booking our hotel room now that it is June, we might use points!

No way we will be running the 5K, I was a runner in high school, but not into the LONG distance races. We will be enjoying the beach and relaxation.

Welcome to our new family, excited to hear how you trip was!

Boarding: We sat in an area close to the entrance to get onto the ship. (When looking at the Mickey ears entrance, the seating area was to the left). This was a small sitting area. Personally, I found that getting through the mass of people was not that bad from this spot. (We were only a few steps away) I've read some reports that some people thought it was crazy in the terminal but from where I was it wasn't too bad. Just my opinion..........

Aquaduck: I only rode it twice. The first time I rode it was on Nassau day around 10:00 am. I had about a 15-20 min. wait. The second time I rode it was coming back from our second day at Castaway Cay. I'm guessing it was around 2:00 and the line was a little bit longer.....at least a 20 minute wait. By the time I got off the Aquaduck the line was longer. I guess as more people get onto the ship coming from the island, it gets more crowded. I didn't spend a whole lot of time by the kids pool so I didn't notice what the crowds or lines for the aquaduck were like throughout the day. I believe the shortest waits are during dinner and show times. I also read that on the last night of the cruise the lines were nonexistant.

Lines that I noticed/experienced: Cabanas on the first morning for breakfast. WOW! It seemed to me to be total mass confusion. I guess people were still getting to know the ship and people were coming and going every which way. Here's my suggestion (and hopefully your experience will be better than ours)..........since the aft elevators bring you into Cabanas, I would walk a little ways away to the next food station. Hopefully it won't be as congested. If you use the aft elevators to get to Deck 11 where Cabanas and the pool area is, you have to walk through Cabanas to get to the pool. So even if you weren't eating, you still had people walking through to get to the pool which makes it much more congested. I thought I read that the CM's bring you to your table when eating at Cabana's, but that wasn't the case on our trip. (I might have gotten the restaurants mixed up).

On the second morning we tried eating breakfast at Enchanted Garden (buffet). We weren't happy with our experience here for breakfast. We had to wait at least 10 minutes to get into the restaurant. I thought maybe because it was busy and we had to wait for a table to open up...........NOT! The restaurant was empty! Why it took so long to get us to a table, I do not know. The lady with the table arrangements took way too long to place families at a table. Then we had to wait in a line that wrapped around to even get to the buffet. I timed it........from the time we arrived at the restaurant to the time we sat down with our plates was 20 minutes. We were on a tight schedule and missed part of a presentation because we had no idea that it would have taken that long to get breakfast.

After that we did breakfast back at Cabanas and the experience there was much better than the first day.

Another suggestion for Cabana's.........find your table first! It was only DH and I and there were a few times I spent walking around Cabanas looking to see where he was sitting after I had made my plate. The place goes on forever! And there are many different sections to sit in.

Adult pool area.......
The only day I found it to be crowded was the day at sea. We went to that area in the afternoon to listen to the live band and we couldn't find a chair or lounger. This was on Deck 11. I did not try Deck 12.

We participated in the FE with 30 cabins. We had one delivery to Conceirge and the gates were locked. Luckily, a teenager came by with her key and let us in.

We did not eat at Remy or Palo.

Okay, I didn't mean to write a book, but I hope this info. is helpful. Let me know if I can answer any more of your questions.

I will definitely be running it!!! I actually read that you can double it and turn it into a 10K, which I might even do.....just depends on my mood. I'm currently training for the Princess 1/2 marathon at WDW in Feb '12, so after running that, a 5K should seem like no big deal, right? :lmao:

Sorry to say we are canceling our cruise. It was for my dd's 16th birthday and she really wants to just go to Disney World, and that way my parents can come too. Hope everyone has a great cruise and maybe we will meet on another one. :)

Sorry to hear that you are canceling, but I completely understand. My kids are the ones who really wanted to go on this cruise, but I'm a little concerned that afterward it will not "live up" to WDW. I celebrated my 16th at WDW, too. I hope you have a great trip and she has a wonderful birthday.
