JUN 06 2007 Magic - 10 day Mediterranean ( READ INFO POST # 1 )

Hey John,
i am also going on the 6-6-07 cruise. We also have a family of four. Me 40ish,DW 40ish,DD 12, DS 17. see you on the cruise.!!!!:hourglass waiting......:sad2:

I just discovered this disboard thread on the 6/6/07 cruise. I feel like I am trying to join a family reunion as most of you seem like old friends! Looks like Sharolyn and Funny Bunny have done a lot of work.

My family of four (DH 45, DW 41, DS 14, DD 12) arrive in Barcelona early 6/6 (from Philly). I am overwhelmed with choices for shore excursions. DCL is mostly overpriced although we did book Rome. We are planning Pompeii by train and Capri by Hydrofoil.

I am still workig on otehr excursions but we would be interested in knowing more about plans for other families. Perhaps we can put a few similarly aged parents and kids together.

BTW - how do you setup one of the countdown timers?

Hi John - We are also a family of 4 ( DH 48 , DW 40 , DD 17 & DS 14 ) our son is looking forwards to finally getting into the teens club - his name is Matt - get your son to say hi - he will know him as he is from the UK and very tall :rotfl:

We are doing all trips ourselves - Italy has fantastic trains that run on time and are inexpensive . Sharolyn has a fantastic selection of tours she is organising if you look back through the posts .

See you soon !!!!!

Rachel

Cool!! Our flight is at 5PM from San Juan, PR to Madrid to Barcelona and then to Paris. . . Yes it was the cheapr way to get to Paris... And we are getting to ORY not CDG, what about you?

CDG here!

We are getting so excited, and boy is it getting close.

Unfortunately, I haven't studied my French and Italian like I swore I would. I know a few basic words, but VERY few. Anyone else here worried about the language barriers??

Hi Rachel - we will look for the tall young man from the UK. My DS loved The Stack (teen club)....girls and no parents!!

Mheywood14 - Where are you travelling from? Hope to meet you on the cruise.

I CAN NOT WAIT!!! I am so excited I can not even sleep, all i can do is think about this port and that port. I need a vacation from planning this vacation!! Oh well....it should be fun!

I think I have read all the posts, but I do not remember reading about meeting up on the boat. Are there any suggestions! It will be fun to put a face to the names....

Suggestions??????:cool1:

i have mentioned it a few times but seeing as i have never been on the boat, I might not be the best person to organize something.

we should try to meet up on one of the days at sea... but beyond that i don't know a where or even when.

Just 25 more days and we will be there!! This is so cool I can't wait for that moment. We are no worried about the language, we speak spanish and english; I took french at school but that was a long time ago. I hope someone will understand our english or spanish!!

I suggest we all gave our room numbers and let messages to get together, last time I got a present and a note from one of us. But I really don't remember who, and we lost the card with the name.

2littlestitches - don't worry . Europeans are fantastic at speaking English . We are shamed by them , the children all learn English from around the age of 6 ( whereas in the UK it can be as late as 11 for a foreign language  )
We always learn ' please , thankyou , excuse me / pardon and the essential two cups of coffee please ' !! You will also find you will try your best to speak in French and they invariably reply in English ..... frustrating if you really want to have a try !

If all else fails you can borrow my daughter in the French ports as she is fluent and just home from teaching English to French children( ages 3 to 11) !

As for meeting up onboard - great idea ! A sea day would probably be best , any recent cruisers got an idea of where to meet ???

24 days til we leave for ROME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 26 til Barca and 27 til the cruise!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOO WHHHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! :cool1:

Don't forget the phrases: "Do you speak english?"

"Hablas ingles?" in spanish and "Parlas inglese" in italian.

Or

"I don't speak spanish/italian"

"No hablo espanol." or "Non parlo italiano"

Put them together and you get:

"No hablo espanol. Hablas ingles?" or "Non parlo italiano. Parlas inglese?"

We could just decide on a time and place, like 9:30 on level 1 by the middle elevator banks, (or whatever) on that first night in Barcelona. After we meet up we could then decide where to go on the boat! Maybe all do the launch party together! Just a suggestion.... I was trying to think of somewhere that is not going to be congested, and by the way, that is where are rooms actually are, so we would at least have a "spot". I was thinking more for a gathering spot to start. Anyway, one suggestion!
:hippie:

Dang we must all be online right now at the same time!! Anyway, we could just plan on meeting on Thursday the day we sail. Again, we could just do a time and spot and then decide where to go after that. I would try and do a non-congested spot. Again, if you guys want to try and meet at like 1ish on Thursday on level 1 by the middle elevator bank, we could do that. It would be a start....it would probably be easier to meet up on Thursday than on Weds with all the hussle and bussle of getting settled in, but I am open to whatever...just let me know.

.... meeting up and doing the sail away sounds great !!!! At least that way I won't be doing the YMCA alone much to the embarrasment of my family !! :rotfl:

I think i had read that the sail away party would be at 10pm, though i could be wrong.

I know that the dis color is lime green, though i am not much of a lime green wearer.... if people want to I can put together an email list and then we can email our room numbers etc to each other... maybe compile a list of excusions and children etc... i know we have some of that on the first page, but i do love excel :rotfl:

I have read on other threads that people are going to Home Depot for the lime Green Disney (Mickey Head) paint chips and using them as a pin on their lanyard or shirt so other dis folks will recognize them. So I stopped by this am and picked up a few, cut them out and laminated them with clear packing tape. I will have ours pinned to our lanyard, anyone else that doesnt have time to make your own, pm me and I will bring extras......

Paula

good idea! I needed to go look at paint for my family room anyway.

as for a time and place the sail away party might be good, though some of you might be pretty jet lagged at 10pm that first night.
