Jumping, Dancing & Jamming Our Way Through Walt Disney World! I'm With the Band Now!

We walked back downstairs to the museum/distillery. They had a large room that was full of moonshine equipment:

This guy was working the distillery and told John that he had been moonshining since he was 13 years old. He also said that he had buried his moonshining equipment when he went off to war in Vietnam and that when he got back, he dug it up and he was still using it today. How cool is that?

In the courtyard of the complex a band was playing and they were very good. This picture turned out blurry but I'll still post it to give you an idea of how the place was set up:

Lacey and Hunter went off to look at some of the other things in the complex while John and I went to the moonshine sampling bar. I wasn't going to try it but John said that he wanted to. He had to show his I.D. even though it was obvious he was well over 21 but they said that had to check everybody's I.D. They had several different flavors of moonshine to sample. We got tickled because they were serving the samples in the same little cups that we take communion in at church.

John tried the straight moonshine, the peach flavor and the apple flavor. He said the straight moonshine burned from the minute he put it in his mouth. That's saying a lot for John because he never ever says anything is hot or burns. He dips tobacco and I think it's messed up his tastebuds. Once the sampling was done, we found the kids and then looked around in the store a bit. John bought a moonshine t-shirt and we went on down the strip to the other stores.

Hunter wanted to go in each and every store that had swords or knives. Lacey and I would duck into other places while John and Hunter looked at swords. I ended up getting a Gatlingburg zip hoodie for just $12.00 and Hunter got one as well. I don't remember what the rest of the bunch bought but it wasn't much. By the time we were done, it was dark and Jesse had called and said that he was on his way to Pigeon Forge. John attempted to take pictures of the beautiful Christmas lights but they didn't turn out very well:

We dropped Hunter and John off at the hotel and Lacey and I went to the Christmas store. I wanted to look around and I knew that it held no appeal at all to John and Hunter. While in the store, Jesse called and said he was in town so he stopped in the Christmas store as well and I let them pick out a couple of ornaments as a gift from me.

Since we were all pooped, we decided to just stop and get something to eat and take it back to the hotel. Five Guys looked good so we all got burgers, fries and drinks. John is still paranoid about having our new car smell like food so we had Jesse take the food in his vehicle and Lacey and I took the drinks. No need to upset the hubby after having such a great trip so far.

We got back to the hotel and had a mini picnic while watching Elf. We all ate, laughed and just generally had a good time together. It warms my heart that Lacey married such a wonderful Christian man. He fits right in with our family and there's no hesitation whatsoever when any of us say "we love you" because we all really mean it. I love that and thank God that he sent Jesse to join our family.

It wasn't hard to fall sound asleep that night. We were tired from our hike to Clingman's Dome and Jesse was tired from work. As part of our hotel package, we got vouchers that were good for several different dishes at the pancake house nearby.

When we checked in, the lady asked how many people would be in our party and she gave us those and extras. Since we didn't have to show any I.D. or proof of our reservation, I gave the extras to Lacey & Jesse and told them to use them when they came back to Pigeon Forge.

Anyway, we had a nice breakfast with us all, again, making jokes and enjoying our time together. It was pretty bittersweet because we all knew that this was our last hour or so together. At that time, we didn't know if they would be joining us in Louisiana for Christmas.

It was soon time to check-out of the hotel and give our final hugs to Lacey and Jesse. Before the eyes got all teary, we took a family picture:

***Shoot, photobucket has stalled. Be right back.

:lmao: I had to laugh at the not wanting the smell of food to mix with the new car smell. I picked up my new car tonight and Ron said he wouldn't let his daughter eat in the car for at least 3 years. Then when we went to pick up some fast food to bring home, he insisted he bring it in the old car so as not to make my new car smell of french fries. :rotfl:

Love all the pictures! The moonshine museum sounds like a unique experience, especially with the guy there telling his story. Glad you all got to have some fun together and enjoy Pigeon Forge/Gaitlinburg.

I forgot to post a picture of the outside of our hotel:

After breakfast and our family picture, hugs were given to everybody and we parted ways with Lacey and Jesse. They were going to spend a little more time in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg before heading back to Knoxville.

We, however, had a long drive ahead of us but, little did we know, it would be almost twice as long as it should have been. Our first indication of the traffic was when we got to Sevierville and we could see cars as far up ahead as possible:

DSCF0236-Copy.jpg

We would go forward about a foot and then stop for a while and then move another foot or so. John called Mama and told her that we had left and where we were. At that time, we still thought we had about a 9 1/2 hour drive ahead of us. We saw this sign which did not make sense at all. Notice the big billboard advertising the merchandise but then the small sign below that made us go :confused3:

What?

As I have told you when we got home, the drive home took us 17 hours! 17 stinking hours. Most of that time was sitting in three, four and five lanes of traffic. Just sitting. I don't think our tires made an entire rotation before we had to stop again. Have you ever seen the episode of John & Kate Plus 8 where they are sitting in the airplane and they have been delayed by hours? The one where she finally broke down and started crying and saying "I'm done! I'm done!" Well, that's how I felt. John and Hunter slept on and off (mostly on) throughout the entire ride. They mostly woke up when I told them I had to pee or we needed gas. Not only was the traffic bad but it rained 16 1/2 hours of those 17 hours. It was the most horrible ride I have ever ever ever experienced. But, at least I got to see my two babies so I guess that was well worth it.

***Up next: A Disney trip report installment.....a Down Day!

those pictures of the veiws are just stunning.

And so is that pizza!!!!

Both were amazing!

Very happy for you that 1. You got your bonus, 2. You are off work tomorrow and Monday, and 3. Your boss's mother helped you finish early today. :D

Gorgeous pictures of the scenery!

I was happy with all three!

:rotfl:

Ron and John would get along just fine then! John made me go to pick up bbq in his truck the other day just so the smell wouldn't get in the car. Last Friday, I stopped at Coney Island for chili burgers and chili dogs. I rode all the way home with the windows down and it was 40 something degrees. I was freezing!

Love all the pictures! The moonshine museum sounds like a unique experience, especially with the guy there telling his story. Glad you all got to have some fun together and enjoy Pigeon Forge/Gaitlinburg.

It was a unique experience. We are not drinkers but John said he couldn't pass up a "different" experience like tasting moonshine.

I'm all caught up! Boy, I got SOOOO far behind. That drive home sounded just horrible. Bad enough to be stuck in traffic, but raining too? Gotta say -- I'm loving your family picture. You all just look very happy to be together.

Congrats on conquering Clingman's Dome! That's one thing we never got to during our visits to the area. It's on my list for whenever we make it back there, though. That whole area is just so gorgeous.

Your day in Gaitlinburg sounds like so much fun and I'm so glad you found a place to park. I was there once in July and all I can say is O M G! Worst traffic EVER!

I know I missed several updates while I was away and I can't see pics right now, but I'll be back.

Enjoy your long weekend and I'm sorry you didn't get the bonus you expected. And the way you boss communicates - pftt. That stinks! :sad1:

Glad you had fun in TN! And YAY for them coming down for Christmas!!! We were suppose to leave Christmas Eve to go to GA for a few days and Friday was going to be our "Christmas Eve" because I have a strict Santa comes to MY house rule :santa: (Plus, we don't have enough room to pack up our presents PLUS all the presents from family in our car! We'd have to rent a uhaul!). But I have been fairly sick (I have a staph infection ), and the doctor doesn't want me to be too far from home.

And Boo to your silly boss!! Seems like you two know each other well enough that he could talk to you face to face about things! MEN!

That photo of the 5 of you is really great. That drive home sounds terrible, though. 17 hours is a looong time to be stuck in traffic- especially in the rain, too!!
In case I'm not online in the next few days, Merry Christmas to you and to your family! I hope you have a fantastic time visiting with Lacey & Jesse. :goodvibes :santa:

What a great family picture!

A tidbit on Mellow Mushroom- My husband works/worked for the original guys who created Mellow Mushroom. My DH has a grading business and does some of the work for them since they live around us. The three original creater/owners have since parted ways but DH still does work for them. One guy still owns the name and another guy started another local pizza place in town. Mellow Mushroom is awesome.

Sounds like it was a great trip! Minus the ride home. But you have to take the bad with the good right? Can't imagine living so far away from my family, I do not know how you all do it! So wonderful Lacey is so happy. I hope you all have a wonderful family Christmas together!

Also about your bonus, don't blame you for being upset. We had a similar issue here at work.

Love, love, LOVE your family picture! You need to frame that one:thumbsup2
I would have been crying too if it took me 17 hours to get home driving 2 miles an hour:scared1:

Sorry to hear about your Christmas bonus, and the way you were told. YAY on getting friday and Monday off form work.

I was 11 days behind but I spent the night catching up!

That was funny with mama and the obstacle course with Lacey and Hunter and the wheelchair races!

I loved the video with MS and S. I'm going to show River tomorrow and I know he'll say "why didn't you do that mom?''

I loved the outdoor pics from your thanksgiving trip. Thats great you got up the nerve to do Clingmans Dome but I wish you would have had better weather so you could have seen more. Sorry to hear the J.P. boat ride was a bust but thats great John told them his wife would write about it on the internet and you did!

I'm sorry your bonus wasn't what you counting on it being. But glad to hear you got Friday and Monday off to be with your family. I'm off until Wednesday. The new mean bosses where I worked got the boot and they brought back the nice ones and everyone else that was let go:yay:

I hope you enjoy your time with Lacey and Jesse and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I'm way behind on posting but have been keeping up with reading! I enjoyed hearing about the Thanksgiving trip, and glad it was so good except for the nightmare trip home.
I'm so happy for you that you will have your little family circle intact at Christmas! Hope it is wonderful, as i am sure it will be!!
(And happy that the Christmas bonus wasn't cut as much as he said!!)

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO MY FAVORITE DIS PAL!!

Merry Christmas!!!!

We ate at Mellow Mushroom also---but on Friday night. Keith enjoyed it so much we ate at the one here locally the following weekend. I never could get him to go prior to the Gatlinburg experience! I think the Moonshine place is super cool! I tried it once and since I really don't drink much I thought I was going to die when it went down! Especially the lightening one! I could tolerate the apple pie. I think those moonshiners must have been desperate to get drunk to drink that stuff constantly!

I found the sign warning people to not buy there hilarious! I wonder the story behind it? That road out of Sevierville was :scared1:!!!!! We tend to avoid going that way at all costs because it has never been a good experience!

I hope you have a wonderful holiday and enjoy having Lacey and Jesse home!!!

Sounds like a great day in Gatlinburg. Love the family photo -- it's great.

Merry Christmas to you and the family.
