Jumping, Dancing & Jamming Our Way Through Walt Disney World! I'm With the Band Now!

Oh Lisa, I don't think you're being selfish at all!!!:hug::hug: I would absolutely be upset as well about not being in the wedding video. I'm sure that the photos will be gorgeous though (not that the video wasn't beautiful, but I'm sure that the photos will be more inclusive of everyone!)

Thanks for all of the great info from Lawrence! If you do ask about Fantasyland, I need time frames! DH is trying to make us hold off on another trip until it's open :scared1:

Lisa, don't feel selfish for wishing you were in the video, you are the mother of the bride! He definitely should have asked someone since he didn't know who you are.

Thank you so much for posting that chat. I am glad to hear the AOA will not be sharing buses with POP, as that was something I was worried about. I love that POP has it's own buses (though I do wish the lines were covered instead of just the walkway behind the lines) and will stay that way.

About the dates for Fantasyland, I follow the Expansion thread, and the latest info from Disney (which was last week) is that Storybook Circus will be open Spring 2012, Ariel/Belle will be open by Thanksgiving 2012 (they hope) and Snow White Mine Train won't be open until Spring 2014 at the earliest. This is all from Disney Imagineers at D23.

I'm shooting for a full on/signed, sealed and delivered report of the wedding that is posted as quickly as possible. As I said, I wanted to get back to posting about Disney 'cause I'm missing it right now.

As I think I told ya'll, our caravan....which had dwindled down to just two cars...was set to hit the road as soon as all of us had gotten off work and we loaded the last of the wedding decorations into my niece's vehicle. The wedding "team" had started out as: Me, John, Hunter, Mama, my two sisters and two (possibly three) of my nieces. Because one of my sisters and her daughter had taken off work so much due to my brother-in-law's illness and then death, they found out they had no more "personal" time off work. If they had taken off, their employer (a State employer) would no longer have to pay a portion of their health insurance and they would be responsible for 100% of the premium.

That meant the "team" was now just: Me, John, Hunter, Mama, one sister and one niece. Oh well, we would just have to work harder setting everything up but we could do it. A plus to the smaller group was that we wouldn't have three cars but two cars following each other. I hate driving and keeping up with other people in our party.

I left work about 15 minutes early on Wednesday, August 17th, dropped off the office mail and Lacey's Jeep insurance and was on my way home. I called my sister as I was driving and she said she was running way behind and didn't know when she was going to be ready. Noooooooooooo! Then, she said she was kidding and was sitting at my dining room table waiting for me to get home and for my niece to get there. Soon, I was pulling into our driveway and changing into my more comfortable driving clothes. All we had to do was wait on my niece to get there. She is as notariously late as her mother usually is and I was hoping today wouldn't be one of those days.

By the time we had gotten as many boxes as we could into my car, my niece had called and said she was about 10 minutes away from my house. Good, that meant we wouldn't be way off schedule. Once she got there, we loaded the rest of the boxes into her vehicle and we were ready to go. But, not before we made the final potty call and made sure all the doors were locked.

They went ahead of us because they needed gas and we were both going through the McDonald's drive-thru for burgers. We were on the interstate at 6:02 p.m. which was about 30 minutes later than we wanted but still not too terribly late.

Our first stop was the traditional one when headed in that direction......the Mississippi Visitor's Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. It's really not that far from our house but far enough that our bladders play tricks on us into thinking that we simply must stop or we'll pee ourselves. Obviously, I get this trait from my mother's side of the family because all of us girls got out.

There was no way I was stopping without taking a few pictures. Besides, Mama needed to stretch her legs.

My niece with a camera in hand. Again, this must be a trait from my maternal side of the family.

As a couple of you Georgia gals know, I came to you for advice on how to get around Atlanta without actually getting on the loop/bypass/whatever it's called. We wanted to get off before we got to Six Flags because that's when the traffic starts to get a little congested. I, personally, knew that there was no way in the world that I could handle the stress of the wedding preparations AND Atlanta traffic. No way at all!

Anyway, a few days before the trip, it was decided that we would drive as far as we could on Wednesday and then drive the rest of the way on Thursday. It was also decided that we would get off the interstate at Villa Rica, Georgia, go up and then over and then on to Cleveland, Georgia. None of us had a clue if this was going to be little "pig trail" roads as my daddy used to call them or decent highways. Whatever they turned out being, they would get us there and keep us away from the Atlanta area.

Back to driving....we would stop every now and then to get gas and stretch our legs. We made it to a truck stop/gas station somewhere past Meridian, Mississippi and near the Alabama state line and picked up a couple of the hotel coupon books. This is where I knew we would have to do some sweet talking to get my sister to keep driving. She isn't much for road trips nor is my niece. As ya'll know, road trips are our thang (yes I meant to type thang ;)) and driving for hours upon end is nothing to us. Even though Mama is 77 years old, she does pretty well with riding for long periods of time.

My sister suggested we stop somewhere soon. I wanted to keep going but didn't want to push it and didn't even mention it because she had done so much for us and still had plenty to do. We found a Jameson Inn coupon in the book and I suggested that we call it and see if they had any rooms available. They did so we got back on the interstate on our way to Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

I can't remember what time we arrived but I don't remember it being too terribly late.

**Continued in next post 'cause Photobucket is acting all weirdo again and I'm afraid it's gonna freeze my computer again. Be right back....hopefully!

 Lisa, I would have been upset as well. I did notice the lack of family type footage, but I thought it was just a little thing thrown together.

As the offical wedding video, I would be mad that all the important members of the wedding party (parents, G-parents, siblings, along with attendants) were left out. Who doesn't ask who the parents are if you didn't know before hand??

Did anyone esle get any video and could be edited in? I also wonder if they could edit in the wedding pics when you get them. I've seen video that is part live video and part still shots!

I bet the pictures are going to be wonderful!

Hunter helped us take a bag or two up the stairs and I gave him the camera and told him to take pictures while John and I went back downstairs to help get my Mama's bags and the snack stuff.

The rooms looked like they had been redone recently with the exception of the carpet which had a bit of a worn look but it wasn't really dirty, just a bit worn in the walking area. We discussed whether we wanted to get up really early or wait a little later before leaving. Birmingham was our next big town and we didn't want to get into the morning weekday traffic. It was decided to kind of play it by ear but plan on being ready to leave about 8:00 or so. We called down to the front desk and asked for a 7:00 a.m. wake-up call.

I was awakened by the sound of the phone ringing. Our wake up call. At...................7:30! That was a half hour later than I wanted to get up. I called over to the other room and they were already up and dressed. My sister had even gone down to get breakfast. Good granny.....I hadn't even gotten my butt off the bed yet. They said not to get in any rush because they could see the interstate from the hotel and traffic was a bit heavy and they were just chillin' anyway.

I woke the rest of my crew and we all got ready. Hunter and I went to the continental breakfast first and Hunter ate a bowl of fruit loops while I fixed us some bagels and toast. My sister came down to chat with us. John came down too and got a couple of the small pastries and a cup of coffee. We made our way back to the room, put our suitcases back in the car and we were off.

There is a huge Mercedes plant somewhere near Birmingham and I tried taking a picture of how big it is. It goes on and on forever which you can't really see in the pictures:

101_3084.jpg

101_3085.jpg

The next "big" thing there is to see along the interstate is Talladega racetrack. Here is the first picture we tried to take:

101_3086.jpg

Yeah...there's a racetrack behind that truck and off in the distance. Here's another try which is still not that great:

101_3087.jpg

We crossed into Georgia and then stopped for gas and Subway very close to where we were going to try our new route....the Villa Rica, Dallas, something or other town and then Canton....and then back to our old route. My niece had ordered her contacts before we left and they never came in. During the drive, she had searched for local Walmart stores that had a Vision Center. She wanted to get her prescription faxed to a Walmart so she could get her contacts. She insisted that she was not going to wear her glasses in the wedding nor was she tripping all the way down the aisle. :rotfl:

She found a Walmart in.....in.....shoot, I don't remember the name but it wasn't far off the route we were taking. We split up at this point and they went on ahead of us while we waited for our food.

We made it through Villa Rica just fine and as we approached Dallas, we got a little confused. We knew what highway to look for but Mama said the map looked like we were supposed to take another highway. Crap! We got turned around and I made quite a few turns before we finally stopped at an exterminating company to ask for directions. John was in some sort of mood and wouldn't get out of the car so he could come listen with us. I think the stress was getting to him too. He told me to kiss his you know what. I told him to stop acting like a butthole and I went in for directions. Mama didn't say a word but did come in with me. Hunter sat in the back seat with John, looked at him, rolled his eyes and continued to play his game. Lord, we were all going to have a nervous breakdown before we got our daughter married off! :sad2:

Luckily, the exterminating company told us we were actually on the right highway (now that I had turned back around those two or three times) and gave us very detailed directions of how to get to Cleveland. I am so glad that we decided to stop there. Actually, it really didn't take much deciding because I was so frustrated that I simply turned into the first business I saw. Anyway, we were back on track and, in no time at all, were laughing again. The kiss the you know what's, stop acting like a butthold, eye rolling, foot stomping was shoved to the side and forgotten.

My sister called and they had gotten the contacts and were back on the road. They were still a bit ahead of us due to the fact that we had gotten turned around but not too far ahead. We said we'd check in with each other a little later because my sister wasn't too sure of where to go once we got back on the regular route (which she had never driven so it wasn't "regular" to her). As I was talking to her, a funeral procession came by and we pulled to the side of the road.

We were rolling along and all of the sudden we see white paint starting to spew out the back of the van in front of us. Apparently, Mr. White Van was a painter and a can had turned over in the back. There was nothing that I could do but stay back as far as we could and hope that it would stop soon. Ummm, I thought it would have stopped by now. We were guessing it was a 5 gallon bucket of paint because it just kept on and kept on and kept on. It was still dripping when they turned off the highway.

By the time we made it to the regular route, I was in desperate need of a potty break. We stopped at a Wendy's and called my sister. We were all pretty close to the turn off to Cleveland and there was a fruit stand that we all wanted to stop at. I told her where it was and that we'd meet her there. About 20 minutes later, we were there. Where? Here:

101_3091.jpg

The Tomato House. If any of you are ever near Cleveland, Georgia, I highly recommend stopping here. It doesn't look like much from the outside (or from the inside for that matter) but they have cans and bottles of every kind of jam, jelly, syrup, vegetable, relish, bbq sauce, hot sauce, etc. that you can imagine. They even have these:

101_3092.jpg

No reputtable fruit stand is complete without one of those!

I called Lacey and told her we were at the fruit stand and would be at the church soon. We stopped at the church and unloaded both vehicle loads of boxes. My sister had never been to the church and was getting a look at the venue for the first time. She was so excited and immediately went into her event planner mode. We didn't dawdle too long though because we were all tired and were ready to get checked in.

I had made reservations at the Hampton Inn in Helen, Georgia. The town is one of the cutest I have ever seen. It looks like a storybook town. All of the buildings are styled the same and have a gingerbread look to them. We made our way through the tiny town and were soon at the Hampton. Once we did check-in, we soon saw that everything had been refurbed since our last visit. It was really really nice....all new carpets, tile, doors, (or at least refinished doors) , fixtures, linens and furniture.

I took pictures of our room before all of our stuff got strewn around:

I knew that Mama would want to go to Betty's Country Store. We go there every time we visit Helen and Mama always looks forward to going. I don't know why we like it so much but we do. They have all sorts of groceries, jams, jellies, salsas, a small deli and fresh baked breads. Oh and soft drinks in bottles on ice. Love those! We bought a jar of peach salsa and some Tostitos, three bars of laundry soap (can't find it at home and I make my own laundry detergent with it), Hunter something to snack on that I can't remember and ice cold drinks. I remember Mama buying something to eat and a wedge of cheddar cheese. I have no idea what my sister and niece bought.

Betty's is just a block or so away and we enjoyed the nice walk back to the hotel. Mama said she was tired and wanted to just put her feet up and rest. In my typical travel fashion, I was ready to do something. I don't like just sitting and doing nothing. She said to go ahead and do what we want and she'd be fine. We made it back to the hotel and I asked my sister if she wanted to go take a picture or two.

**I forgot to add one other person to our "team" that was supposed to go and that was my sister's husband. He is a supervisor for a construction company and they were doing updates to a local energy company's offices. Due to special Homeland Security rules, they only allow certain people to go in and out of the building and the security was super strict. My brother-in-law wanted to go but he was on the approved list and it would have been hard to get another person approved to take his place.

My sister and I walked downstairs so she could take a picture of the hotel for her husband and text it to him. Of course, I was taking pictures too:

101_3104.jpg

And then, we walked to the back of the property and took pictures of the Chattahoochee River (is that how you spell that?)

101_3105.jpg

101_3106.jpg

As I said, almost all of the buildings have the same basic design/theme. This is the fire department:

101_3107.jpg

The fountain in front of the hotel:

101_3108.jpg

We went back upstairs and talked about what we were going to do the rest of the evening. Usually, Helen is one hopping little town. It's always been busy when we've visited. On this particular, evening, it was slooooow. Very few people were walking around, the traffic was virtually non-existent and most of the shops were already closed.

We set off on foot and went in search of something to eat. Problem was...most of the restaurants were closed. One was open, Paul's, but the entrees were about $30 each which was more than we wanted to spend. This was definitely a budget trip and a meal that cost over $120 was not in the cards.

***Photobucket is froze. I need to restart my computer. Sorry! I'm trying to get as much posted as I can.

I almost forgot to post a picture of the fountain in the middle of town:

101_3109.jpg

Right behind Paul's was another eateries but as we approached it, we could tell it was more of a bar type place and it was a bit loud and we felt it would probably be getting louder as time went on. We walked back the pizzaria and it had just closed. What the heck? Back across the street we went and found that The Troll Tavern was still open.

101_3117.jpg

We went down the steps and were happy to see that there weren't that many people were there. The hostess asked if we wanted to be seated inside or out and we chose inside. For a while, we were the only people in the room we were seated in. The table was covered in a table cloth that had prints of old advertisements on it. I thought this one was worthy of a picture:

101_3113.jpg

And then I took one more:

101_3114.jpg

There was a bar in the room we were in and a few men and one biker chick that came in and sat at the bar. From what we could tell, they, along with us and the few people seated outside, were the only patrons of the restaurant. That was perfectly fine with us.

I can't remember what everybody ordered. I ordered the fried shrimp and corn fritter basket. Hunter ordered a plain burger. I think both John and Lacey ordered a burger too. My sister and niece split a muffaletta and a bowl of loaded potato soup. I do know that everything was tasty and we'd go back again. I didn't even think to take pictures because we were planning out our schedule for the next day.

When we walked outside, we could see that it had rained and we were glad that we hadn't chosen to eat outside on one of the umbrella tables. We made our way up the stairs and back to the hotel.

101_3116.jpg

101_3118.jpg

Lacey went back to her Mission parents' house and my niece went along with her. They still had to gather up Lacey's things and get the platters of desserts together for the reception. We told them that we'd meet them at the church around 10:00 a.m.

The next morning, my sister (you know I just realized I've never called her by name which would make this a whole lot easier....her name is Lois), Mama and I were up and at 'em. John was still dragging around (I swear he's worse than a woman.:sad2:) so I told him I'd ride with Lois and he and Hunter could come later. We ate from the continental breakfast and we were off to meet Lacey and Ashly (my niece).

We were a bit limited on what we could do because the church was having a men's breakfast Saturday morning. That meant we could only decorate half of the room and then put up a large divider so that nothing would get disturbed. The first thing we did was start pulling out all of the flowers so we could start on the arrangements. Lois was assigned the two big arrangements that wold go in the sanctuary. Mama and Ashly would put together the smaller arrangements. I was in charge of taking everything out of the boxes and organizing what we had and where they were to go.

I thought the table arrangements were turning out pretty good. We used Mason jars for the vases and they were filled with rocks.

101_3119.jpg

Instead of having candles down the aisle in the sanctuary, we brought the bird/natural theme in by using these birdhouses. John and Lacey made them in our shop. These pictures were taken pre-decorations:

101_3120.jpg

101_3122.jpg

Large arrangement half made:

101_3123.jpg

All the flowers separated out for the arrangements:

101_3124.jpg

We had Mason jars in a variety of sizes. The large ones had the flowers in them. The medium size had pictures of Lacey & Jesse in them and the smaller ones had sand in the bottom and a yellow and green candle in them. The Mason jars all set aside:

101_3126.jpg

Can't really tell much by this picture but this is one of the jars with their picture:

Love the pics of the decorations! I am making the centerpieces for Heather's wedding :goodvibes

I noticed right away that in the pic of John, Hunter and Lacey in the hotel room, Lacey doesn't have shoes on :rotfl: I am seeing a theme here :rolleyes1

Loved the Helen pics one day I'm going to make it there.

Helen is such a nice town. I hope to go back again even though Lacey won't be living in Cleveland.

Lacey absolutely hates wearing shoes and takes them off whenever she can. When they were in the Mission, they did paintings and dramas and never wore shoes and she was in heaven.

I was going to write up another installment but need to upload a few pictures that were missing from my original upload.

Instead of writing, I'm working on the latest batch of backsacks.....Disney Halloween backsacks. I am also going to be making Disney drawstring bags for trick-or-treating. Once I am done, I'll post pictures for ya'll to see.

Our bouquets will be blue and white roses, lilies and one other flower that I cannot remember at the moment. The centerpieces actually won't have flowers at all. Their wedding is a water/beach theme, so I am making the centerpieces to match that. I have hurricane jars that I will be putting a layer of white sand in, then a layer of polished stones that match the wedding shades of blue, than a layer of seashells on top. I think it will look nice. I actually have to start them this weekend to make sure I have enough of everything. :)

The thread has a lot of great information in it and I've been following along as I can but it's been so hard for me to keep up with everything lately.

I'm hoping to get more posted today!

I'm still exhausted. :lmao: We were on super fast speed almost the entire time we were there.

Helen is such a nice little town. I would say that it's super quiet but there are motorcycle rallies all the time and one end of the town can be a bit loud. But, the riders are always courteous and never cause any trouble.

The decorations sound like they are going to be beautiful. Be sure to post pictures of them 'cause I would love to see them.

We had brought yards and yards and yards...did I say yards? of fabric to decorate with. Since the church is more modern and has no real "pulpit" but more of a stage, we didn't know exactly what we wanted to do in the sanctuary. So, we brought along lots of extra greenery, fabric, ribbon mesh stuff and more. We put Lacey and Ashly in charge of steaming and ironing all of the fabric which was a huge task considering how much we had.

I had brought along an iron and Lacey said the Mission had an old steamer we could use. One of the Mission kids found it for us but, after an hour or so, it looked like this:

101_3139-1.jpg

It started melting and the room got all smoky. We had to take the steamer outside, open all of the doors and get some ventilation in the room. About that time, John and Hunter pulled up and asked what was burning. Lacey went to the church offices to tell them what had happened just in case the smoke detectors went off or they smelled the burning plastic.

I gave Hunter the camera and told him to take a few pictures while we continued to work.

101_3131-1.jpg

101_3132-1.jpg

We worked for another hour or so when Lacey's friend pulled up. She had come all the way from Detroit to be in the wedding which I thought was very sweet of her. She and Lacey have known each other since Jr. High and attended the Mission together as well. We were all starving and we needed to make a run to Walmart for some Velcro, something to put some greenery in and the ingredients to make punch and a few other little things.

Our first stop was Zaxby's which has the most awesome chicken ever. I look forward to eating there every time we go to Georgia. They have chicken....and....chicken.....and chicken. After our lunch, we all went to Walmart to pick up the items on our list. My sister had brought clips to put the table skirting on with but the tables weren't thick enough and the clips wouldn't stay on. So we had to buy...get this....$30.00 worth of Velcro. Once we had most of the stuff we needed, everybody but Mama, John, Hunter and I went back to the church while we paid for everything.

Once we were back at the church, John, Mama started working on the table skirting which was a pain in the rear end. I could tell, about 1/3 of the way through, that we didn't have enough Velcro. We would need at least the same amount we bought before, if not more. Crap! I never expected to spend $60 on Velcro. John headed off for Walmart to buy more and I took a few pictures.

101_3133-1.jpg

101_3136-1.jpg

101_3141-1.jpg

When John came back, we finished up the skirting and moved on to putting the decorations on the tables. We were able to use some of the wooden cheese boxes that the church had for storage. They looked so cute scattered about. We had finally done all we could do to the reception area. We needed part of the tables for the rehearsal dinner and then the church needed them for the men's breakfast the next day. We'd have to put up the partition up so that the decorations wouldn't get disturbed.

101_3142-1.jpg

101_3143-1.jpg

This was all we could do so we moved on to the sanctuary. We had hoped to get done in time that we could go and change our clothes before the rehearsal dinner but we could quickly tell that there was no way we would have time to make the drive to Helen and back. Everybody would just have to see us in our raggedy tired state.

We were not able to do much in the sanctuary before everybody starting arriving for rehearsal. Lois and I were discussing what we wanted to do around the stage when the....how should I say this....ummm....this is a family friendly discussion board.....I don't curse..... bossy, yeah, bossy will work....lady that helps with the weddings at the church came in and started telling us what would work and what wouldn't work. Lois and I folded up our stuff and took it back into the reception area. I could not, would not, get into a fussing match with Ms. Bossy Pants at my daughter's wedding rehearsal.

Right after this, John said that he was feeling really bad and that his face was twitching a good bit. He sat down in one of the chairs for a while but his face was still twitching. Some of you might remember that John's going through a change in his seizure medications. The new meds make him all dizzy in the morning and during the transition, there is a higher likelihood that he will have a seizure. In order to stop the twitching, he normally goes into a dark room, puts a couple of "magic" pills a/k/a Ativan under his tongue, and lies down. The twitching usually stops within thirty minutes or so. Well, this time, there was no dark room and the Ativans weren't kicking in. He went into the reception hall and laid down next to one of the air conditioner vents to see if it would help cool him off because he gets super hot when he has these twitches.

It was upsetting to him that he was missing out on the rehearsal and that made him even more nervous which made the twitching even worse. His face would cramp up and he'd see spots. Mama said she'd take him back to the hotel room and Lois would go with them so that she could start working on decorating the bird houses. He hated to leave but it couldn't be helped. He had to get to some place quiet and more calm than where he was.

Once they were gone, I made my way back into the sanctuary where wedding party was practicing. Hunter was standing in for John.

**Stopping here because Photobucket is acting all crazy and I'm afraid I'm going to lose what I have written so far.

I really love the decor you guys put together for the wedding. I can't wait to see more photos!!

I didn't see your last post before I posted my last post. I hope John felt better later that day.
