Hello,

We are new to DVC. We bought in on our MED Cruise last summer on DCL.
We will be traveling to SSR in March, which is our home Resort.
My question is.. with an outgoing (only child) 8 year old who loves all of the Disney type kids activities, which resort would you recommend for a trip in July? Vero Beach or Hilton Head. I'm a teacher, so the best time for a family trip is in July.

Thanks so much for your replies.

Either resort is great for kids with extra programs and activities to make up for not being at WDW.

I am biased for VB mainly because the beach there has waves and I really love to boogie board.

But also, the resort there is almost all inclusive in a small package. The beach, pool, and your room are not even a 2 minute walk. You can set your beach stuff and feel free to go back to the room or up to the pool for a while or get lunch at the poolside grille.

VB's season is longer than HHI because the temps are better for more months. July at HHI is going to be peak time, but we got a 1 bdrm the last year for Late June at the 7 month window.

Check this thread for much more info on VB

We've been to both places when our kids were around 8 years old. We've been pleased at both resorts. There have always been activities that have interested my kids and other children around for them to make friends with. I'm not sure how easy it would be to get HH for July at the 7 month mark. We've always gone to HH & VB during our October Fall Break, but it is reported on this board that HH is difficult to get during the summer. VB might be easier to get during the summer months. It is certainly worth a try and I personally don't think you can go wrong at either place. The CMs at both resorts are outstanding.

I've visited both resorts, VB several times and HH numerous times. Hilton Head has more activities geared to an 8 year old, that a parent would also find enjoyable. The down side is it is not likely you will get any days in July without being an owner. You could try the waitlist. It's not impossible, just a very popular place in July.

Never been to Vero, but love HHI and our DS has enjoyed all the acitvities, the pools and the beach. so much so that we added on HHI in 2002 to get 11 month window. It is almost impossible to get Sun-thurs in June July or early August, although we changed plans last year in January and were able to get 3 nights August 12-15 due to a great CM at MS who searched for any sun-thurs from 2nd week in June until we found the August dates. Weekends are easier because of the high point cost. You can also use member discount for cash reservation. I did this for our nephews family this year -we were on waitlist using points for 3 nights that week and I was able to get them full week for cash. I think you would love the resort as would your child, but it doesn't seem a good chance for this summer.

Thanks for the replies.

Being a newbee around here I'm just finding my way. I am currently on the wait list for July at Vero Beach. I thought our chances might be slightly higher at Vero.

Thanks for the education... I'm going to be ready the next time, I get my compulsive over planning going.. It seems to be the best way to get in. :coffee:
