July Trip Sprinkled Pixie Dust: Twins, Minivan & DVC 10/4 - The last day!

Please forgive me. We moved into the room and then I took pictures. When we entered, I was very excited by the size of the room. We stayed in a value studio at AKV so it was small for the four of us...doable because we don't spend much time in the room. Beach Club Villa was a little bigger...but this room's layout was terrific and the extra space was nice for our last leg of our split stay.

So, it was late EMH for Animal Kingdom and I was so excited to be in the park at night!

When we arrived at 5:18,

we rode Dinosaur - now, my daughters did not like this at all when they were 7...riding it again, I completely understand. It is too loud, and I think that the ride does get scarier as you go. I could feel myself growing more and more anxious as the ride continued. I kept telling myself to stay calm...I can only imagine what it is like for little ones.

Then, we headed to EE

The picture is not clear, but you can see my brave girls with hands up (and probably can't discern that I am gripping for life!)

I rode it once (my goal is each trip to ride it with them once) and waved goodbye to take photos as they went into line again...

After playing with my camera, I headed into a shop to buy a gift for my mom which led to a truly magical experience. I promise to be back soon to tell this wonderful story.

Just wanted to say hi!
I've been lurking for a couple of weeks now and it's so interesting to read your thoughts on some of the resorts we have stayed at too!

Your girls are adorable and I think your night picture of Everest is simply stunning!

The Boardwalk Villa rooms look very nice!!!

Hurray for Animal Kingdom at night!!! Those last two night pictures are spectacular!!! Can't wait to hear about the magical experience!

Sunday morning was quite relaxed. I had everything packed except for toiletries. (On Saturday the girls and I went to a wedding, so we had ourselves occupied until 10 pm.) Late Sat. night, I had decorated the van's back window the night before to show SRUAlmn a Mickey head idea I saw in someone else's trip report.

I Love SRU Alum Mickey!!!!! Go Rock!!!!

Debby, I have not been on in a few days.....I am so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. It sounds like it was a peaceful end. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Since we are admitting things, I've lurked on your reports too...but I really can't admit a time frame...:lmao: I promise to stop lurking. I will admit though that a couple of nights ago when reading one of your posts on Jackie's TR's I proclaimed jealousy over your four tickers! :rolleyes1

Thanks for the compliments. I really think my camera is amazing. One of these days, I will learn to really use it to its potential.

Thanks! If you get emotional, get the tissues! I will post tonight or tomorrow.

I posted it to show SRU Alum...I don't know whose report it came from...I so wish I could give credit! My BF got me the cutest Mickey sticker for my car that reminds me of this Mickey head peaking out. I will post a picture once I decide where to stick it on my window.

Do you drive to WDW? Should I look for you on the road in the summer? ;)

Thank you Wendy.

Now, I might have misled some of you. This was very magical for me but in a truly personal spiritual way. I don't have pictures.

I went into one of the shops at AK to buy my mom a carved wooden animal. (She collects them.) The shop had Judy Derench as their featured artist. She was carving away. I made small talk and said I was shopping for my mom. Something pushed me forward to add that it is tougher this year because it needs to be special. I shared that my dad was very ill.

I looked around and found a baby elephant. I chose it because on Father's Day we found out that my SIL was expecting. So I purchased it, and Judy began to sign it. We had a whole conversation where I revealed that my dad had stage iv cancer. I gave her the whole story about the whipple that didn't happen bc the cancer had spread, etc. She told me anout her mother's recent diagnosis of cancer and their current journey.

As she wrapped the elephant, she said that she had something for me. She explained that she sells these carvings called "Hugs" but that she had one left and she had a feeling that it was meant for me. She told me I could keep it or pass it along.

I cried and told her that I knew exactly who it would be for. I wanted to give it to my niece or nephew when s/he is born. I said it would be from my father. She said to make sure his DNA was on it. (She shared a bit about her background which included something in the bio/ science field (along with working in a field related to cancer).

We hugged and I left the store crying. It was cathartic for me to be able to grieve, have someone understand, and make a special connection that linked Disney to my dad to my future niece or nephew (who will certainly be at Disney someday!)

When I gave my mom her elephant, I told my parents the story and gave my father the sculpture which is about 3 inches. I explained that I would give it to the baby, and I wanted his DNA on it. (which still sounds so weird...but...) A couple of days before my dad passed, I took the hug from his nightstand. (He was no longer in his own bed; he was in a hospital bed in my childhood room.) I told my mom that I had it and she said my father almost told my SIL and brother about it.

I love touching it now; it will sit on my dresser until I give it to my niece or nephew. I know my dad's DNA is all over it. :goodvibes The finish on it is nearly rubbed off on one side from my dad holding it in his hand and caressing it. He was excited to have a new grandchild, and this will be a big hug from Pop Pop to tell my brother's baby how much he would have loved him/ her. :flower3:

It is way too early in the morning for me to be crying!!

What a beautiful story. Such a wonderful thing that artist did for you. I have a feeling your new niece/nephew is going to have that "hug" for a long, long time!

p.s. I LOVE AK at night! We made it a point on one of our trips to be there for PM EMH so we could see it. So beautiful!

I'm crying....
My dad died of cancer in '96.
We were there by his side.
He never met Baylor and they would have been such buddies.

I know what you are going through. It's not easy.

That hug is such an incredible gift.:goodvibes

I am so sorry for the loss of your father:grouphug: The story about the hug sculpture had me in tears.

I am really enjoying your trip report! We are going for 10 days (also in a studio villa) next July. We are also from PA, and we have 2 boys close to your daughter's age (not twins). We often drive to WDW, and did straight through once through the night. I had a hard time staying awake between 3 and 5. Usually we stop in Savannah on the way down, and Florence on the way back. Love driving! I'm also a teacher--- have taken a few years off to stay home with my kids (got my nursing license at night while I was home, and have been working as an RN at night), but looking to go back to teaching next year. Best job I ever had.

You have a beautiful family! Great pictures!!!!

That is truly a magical story. I know the gift will mean a lot to your niece/nephew when they are old enough to understand. That is so thoughtful of you to give that gift away.

I love your EE picture. I hope to be able to go to the AK at night sometime.

Before I start replying to each, I wanted to share with all: It's going to be a BOY!!:yay::yay:

Ah, this story is so beautiful!!! Your niece or nephew will be very lucky to have that hug one day!

Thank you. :wizard:

Sorry for the early morning cry. I think the story is wonderful, but my telling of it leaves much to be desired. It was so magical; I have to make that show in words. Maybe I will work on the piece and polish it.

I was so excited to see AK at night; it is really cool.

Sorry for your loss. I am so glad that my dad had 8 great years with my girls. He loved them so much. I know it is going to be tough for my brother.

Someone (who tends to be private so if she wants to come forward she can) shared something with me that her husband told her about her father not being able to meet her dd. He told her "All the things that you love about your father, you need to become those things. That is how you will pass it on to DD." I don't think she'd mind that I shared it. I think she married an amazing man even though I don't know him!

I have that quoted because I have that quote on a word document on my desktop. I think it is the most comforting advice anyone could have ever given me. :worship: :worship:

Beautiful story, beautiful gift. How truly special.
Thanks. :flower3:

I am excited that you have joined! First, thanks...

I am so curious and excited how close you might be to us... we live Chester County; I am a transplant from Delco. If you are comfortable sharing, I'd love to know where you are...how old are your boys? Have you picked a villa? Early July? We have AP's that expire July 11th, so we will be there end of June early July for probably 7 days - 8 or 9 if I can get hubby on board with using a couple extra points...I do love teaching. It is so much work, but worth it because I love it. What do you/did you/will you teach? :dance3:

Thank you - I knew right away who the "hug" was meant for. :thumbsup2

I think AK is a cool park to go to at night. In thinking about that shot, I think next time I need to photograph EE from the other side.

I thought I was clever for our AK dinner. Flame Tree doesn't have "indoor" seating and their offerings aren't my kids favorites, so I had a plan. I sent DH to Flame tree to get our dinners. I took the girls and went into Pizzafari - wrong we went to Restaurantosaurus to order their meals. I got in line and they picked out a table. I thought this was a great plan (and still do). It was a bit amusing though because even with travel time, DH beat me back with food. When he entered the restaurant, I hadn't even ordered! It wasn't crowded, but I got in the wrong line. The other cashier rang through about four people who came in after me and I was still in the one line behind maybe two people. :confused3 It was so odd!

Anyhow, I wanted to share my plan for any Flame Tree lovers with picky kids like mine who like to eat indoors (esp in the summer!)

Correction: We ate at Restaurantosaurous not Pizzafari - although you could do the same thing there I suspect.

That is a fabulous idea! My kids would much prefer pizza, and I have always steered clear of Flame Tree because I want air conditioning.

I can't believe ya'll were able to eat that much of the kitchen sink!

I am so sorry about your dad. Your family will be in my prayers. The 'Hug' sculptor story was very touching. That will be gift your nephew will be able to cherish forever.

.

We're in Delaware County. My sons are 10 and 7. I just put in my vacation time with my facility where I work as an RN for July 8-22nd. I think we'll be in Disney from the 9th-18th. We're in a studio at Saratoga Springs. My kids really love the pool there. We always do studios. I think we're going to get APs, and then in summer of 2012, schedule our vacation before they expire. We may stop at Myrtle Beach on the way home, or possibly Williamsburg since my kids have never been there. I was a Social Studies teacher. I taught AP government and World History. I worked as a teacher for 6 years, until we had the boys, then I started staying home. I loved my job, though. I went to comm. college at night for nursing, so I could work at night and on weekends when my husband was home with the kids. It's a good job, but the kids are in school all day now, so I'm ready to go back to teaching. Just finished my act 48, and getting that sent into the state. I'm thinking about starting a masters program in Special Ed at West Chester in January, but I'm not sure if I should do that, and get a second certification in Special ed or get a second certification in another subject area (possibly math). We'll see. I'm hoping to go back to teaching next fall. I'm hoping my facility will keep me on as a prn nurse ( you don't really commit to a certain amount of hours, but if they need someone they can call and see if you're available), and I can still do that a weekend here or there, and pick up a few hours here and there in the summer.

Best of both worlds (la la- yes, I listen to Hannah Montana.)

My kids and hubby LOOOVVVEEE ice cream. I just like it- but I could have eaten a whole kitchen sink full of brownies...:rolleyes1

Thank you.

So now, I am even more curious...I'll pm you. We haven't tried Saratoga; I am glad that your boys like the pool. (Pools are important to my girls.) We stay in studios because we find that they are plenty big enough for us; we are too busy out of the room and just sleep there, anyway! We are planning a January trip, but since I my DH can't confirm days off until 60 days prior, I am hoping we are able to stay ANYWHERE for four consectutive nights. Maybe we will be there the same time in the summer. I'd love to have a Dis meet. Last July, many folks were setting up one but it was before we arrived!
