July Trip Sprinkled Pixie Dust: Twins, Minivan & DVC 10/4 - The last day!

Love the pictures of the girls on BTMR! Those are too cute!

You sure accomplished a lot in a short time... I know how you feel about being there when park opens, I am not willing or able to not do that, we just stay ahead of the crowds so much better that way!

You were able to do so much on your Magic Kingdom morning! :thumbsup2 I have to agree with you that doing the character meals is the only way my kids will pose with characters now! It's kind of sad. :(

It is the reason I book the character meals. shhh! ;)

Great pictures! I like your plan of early to the park, then a breakfast ADR. That seems like a great way to get a lot in, but still have a break when it starts getting crowded.

Thanks - I am glad that I am getting used to the bulk of the SLR. It was great to hop over to the GF and hop right back to use a FP (and grab another) before our afternoon break.

Joining along on this trip report! :goodvibes

Your twin girls are beautiful!

Thank you! :goodvibes Glad you're joining!

Loving this report so far.

Your family is giving us more inspiration to try the drive next Sept. from Chicago. My wife and I feel we wouldnt want to stop on the way down either.

Thank you! I really think anyone considering it should try it once. If it is awful, you just don't do it again. lol

If you aren't familiar, you should check out the 2,000 mi threads. The people there are so kind and helpful! You can click for the new link (it grew too large). For the original link, click here.

I am really enjoying your report. Your pictures are great. We drive 13 hours, but you have us beat. We sometimes drive straight through and sometimes stop. Your husband did not look comfortable, I don't blame him for not being able to sleep.

I can't wait to hear more about your trip and see your pictures.

Thanks!! I enjoyed trying to take "different" pictures, but I didn't take enough. I am still caught up in the magic of rushing from ride to ride. :rotfl:

Great review! Waiting for more!

Thanks! Glad you're here.:)

Hopefully, I will grow out of it and will be able to enjoy more details. hehe (One of these years.) ;)

subscribing....popcorn::

Thanks for hopping aboard!!:flower3:

Let me do this again - I had nearly everything finished, and went to preview and poof - an error. Ugh- those gremlins!

I forgot to mention this cutie that I saw in Frontierland with her friend earlier in the day! They were next to Splash and you could see them from the train too!

After some pool time, we showered to head to 'Ohana. We took the bus from AKL to AK and transferred to a Poly bus from there, much quicker than the monorail. After we had safely walked to the resort bus side (our bus dropped us on the theme park side since it was changing from resort line to park line), it began to pour. The heavy, your-poncho-is-no-match-for-me, kind of rain. The poor people leaving the park!

We arrived at the Poly just two minutes shy of ending our fifteen minute grace period (a theme this trip)...I didn't want to find out if you lose your ressie after that...so I ran from the bus stop to the restaurant. I checked us in and asked for a window seat if it was available. After she gave me the buzzer, I asked about how long she thought the wait would be. (I think with kids it helps to have a general idea - heck for adults a thirty minute wait is much easier when you know it is going to be a thirty minute wait.) I forget how long she told me because she added "you were late checking in." I wasn't accusatory; I wasn't unpleasant, yet she needed to scold me. Oh well, it didn't bother me much at the time, but thinking back, it was unnecessary. Off to the gift shop we went.

It wasn't long until we were shown to the same window seat we had in Feb. (Sorry, I didn't take a pic then either.) It had a lush view of foliage. I think I need to specify castle view request to have a better chance. haha

Dinner was good-no food porn pics either (I slacked on this night.) The hostess for the night was the lady (sorry, I don't know her name. I have read about her on the boards so I know she is a regular.)

I bribbed my girls with the promise of pins to do coconut races. (Not a typical occurence, I just have shy kids and I hoped that if they saw how fun it is to participate then they would do it voluntarily.)

Unfortunately, they didn't love it. (Later telling a friend about the restaurant, they both complained that the woman repeated everything too many times like everyone was a baby.) I do have to concede - I didn't care for it either.

After trying to get an acceptable pic of mom and dad:

We were off to MK. We arrived while the MSEP was in progress. As we crossed the street between Tony's and the hat shop, we were directed outside of the gate to a make shift pathway through the cast member's back stage area and parking lot. :scared1: I turned to DH and said "This is a bit unmagical." The pass through was efficient and we ended out near restrooms by the Noodle Station (which was open - I took a pic for proof!)

We rode SM -

Lady behind DH is having fun!

Then, it was time to use our other mountain fastpasses. Unfortunatley, announcements were being made about the fireworks. I had planned to see SummerNightastic tonight. I tend to put my plans aside for my family's fun. I planned it early in the trip in case of weather problems. I decided to send them to finish the mountains without me. (They aren't so interested in the show, so it was either tonight or another night.)

I went to try to get an okay spot for taking some pics. I knew I would have to settle. I was shocked by the line of cast members with lights keeping the path outside of CP clear. (They must come to work for this purpose only - there were like 30 cms!)

continued in next post

I found a spot just after it started, and took these (I selected some of my favs...)

I moved (trying not to annoy anyone) just in time for when the pirates attack the castle:

The castle being saved...

I headed over to Frontierland and texted DH. I was able to strike up a conversation with a nice lady while I waited. She shared how she sits on the porch and videos the parade. Finally, she decided to just enjoy it and not tape it. I agreed with her that it is important to "be" in a moment instead of always trying to document it.

Up next: Do we make it to rope drop for AK early magic hour?

I completely understand bribing a shy child to try something new....story of my life:confused3 Thankfully things got easier as she got older, but to this day she is still hesitant to try new things.

Great pictures of the fireworks! I completely agree about "being in the moment"...sometimes it's better to just sit and enjoy!!

Wow...I haven't been on the DIS in about four days, and I'm so far behind on my subscribed threads!!! Let's see if I can remember everything....

AKL looks so pretty!! I would love to stay there some day. DH isn't that interested in it because it's so close to AK and nothing else. We're not huge fans of AK, and it was nice this trip to be a little closer to the middle to cut down on our bus times. Someday, I'll convince him!

I LOVE the idea of hitting an EMH, then doing breakfast, then going back to the park. You got so much done!! I enjoyed your pictures from BTMRR - my kids really enjoyed that ride, and I didn't really get any good pictures of them there. Actually, I've been enjoying all your pictures in general! I'm nowhere near ready to commit to carrying around/learning to work an SLR, but I really love looking at the pictures of you brave souls who have! ;)

We had the same lady at 'Ohana. She was the one that singled out DH and DBIL. They were the lucky ones to hold the limbo poles the night we were there. We really enjoyed our meal there.

I'm going to have to tell my DBIL about King Pin, too. He's so into pin trading, that's one he can't miss!

I am a big proponent of bribing -- I even did it once at this past trip. :rotfl:

Weren't the fireworks just so neat??? I loved all the perimeter ones! :lovestruc

I'm here! Better late than never!
Loving to hear about your trip so far!!!
The fireworks pics are beautiful!

Looks like a great night at MK. Great fireworks pictures! Did you use a tripod? Looking forward to seeing if you made it to rope drop at AK.

I think it is hard for anyone to try new things (even people who jump right out there!) I hope that I can get them to be less reluctant...

I am glad you liked the shots. I think I got a couple of good ones. I plan on honing that skill throughout future trips!

You get to practice "enjoying" very soon!

I didn't find that the rides were bad from AK (except DTD which always seems terrible! and one traffic issue we encountered that was a problem for any bus.) I don't think that your DH would notice a difference in the transportation.

That's where I needed to look for her name...you had it in your report, didn't you? I think that being in the room with the action makes a difference. We were in a side room.

I read about the King Pin on other TRs. (Jackie might have to help me again - King Pin, Pin King? haha). He is there each day at 3 or 4. One day when he wasn't there, a substitute lady came in to trade.

The SLR takes such beautiful pictures that it is hard to use my point and shoot now. (And I thought it took great shots!)

Just once? Let me guess, it was Charles that you bribed! :rotfl:

I loved the show! It was wonderful, but I only saw it (through the camera no less) that one night. :sad2: Maybe it will stay longer like MSEP? hehe

I'm here! Better late than never!

Welcome!!! I am glad you are here!!! How was your trip? I hope it was wonderful, and I can't wait to hear about it!!:lovestruc

I didn't use a tripod; I forgot it at the hotel:headache:, but I have some shots to share later when I used it! I balanced the camera on a rail and on my bag (I know people thought I was a fool); no trash cans were near me.

Great update! Did you enjoy the food at 'Ohana? We love it there! And I know what happens when you are over 15 mins late for an ADR!!! We were late once for LTT because we got stuck on a ride and we had to wait almost an hour!! :scared1:

Great pics of the fireworks. Later in my TR, I try to walk past Crystal Palace before the fireworks and I would have LOVED if there were some CMs there directing traffic! It was pure chaos!

Today was supposed to be an early hour at AK, but...that extra hour...ah... so instead, we headed to HS for rope drop.

Even with all of those people in front of us, we were only two rows from the rope?? We enjoyed the show:

Then, we did the manic walk to Toy Story with everyone else... not too manic, I paused for Minnie (but not very long or the pic would be better!)

Love the green army guys - note the return time - you will want to know it in minute!

Time to fly through the cue- pics without people!

I used to love to go to a fair just to do these- you youngins need to ask your parents about these. hehe:

I wonder if there is significance to the five?

Love these details!

And there he is, the star of the cue...you really can't know how much I mean that!

And he really was the main attraction that morning, because right after we arrived at that wonderful spot...an announcer came on and explained that people could exit, the ride was on hold. Not three minutes after that, the announcer asked everyone to turn around in the cue and exit out the entrance. The ride was down. UGH! So, very disappointed but calm fans, turned and exited.

It was 9:10; remember what it was about 9:03?

The folks who exited went to the fastpass distribution line which you really have to know the distance in this area to appreciate, and my pic doesn't show it. The man in the hat under the One Man's Dream sign--he is third to last, lady with head down is last).

Okay, now what???

continued...

New plan needed... We went to ToT and secured FPs, and then rode it, of course!

Back story: When we went to Disney the first time, my girls were 6-1/2. They were super excited to go on ToT. I kept periodically asking, "Are you sure?" I asked it one last time as we entered the library and Hannah said, "No, I don't want to do this." DH shot me the "Great job!" look and being the fantastic mom that I am, I said, it's too late, you will be fine. (Which she was and we rode it many, many more times, but she kept her eyes closed throughout the ride.) Fast forward. See the kid in the corner whose arms can't reach any higher? That's the same kid. Her sister - whose arms are usually higher, is in between me (the one gripping for life) and DH.

We then grabbed FPs for RnR.

I even love the trash cans!

Stopped here for breakfast for the girls - big mistake that I didn't back a snack...I'm not sure if they even had breakfast. (Bad mom!)

See this look - the mood matched it!

We stopped at the hat to check out pins. (I should have noticed DH's annoyance here---it will catch up later.)

I want this---

On to Star Tours... I was excited for the girls to ride it this time. A couple of weeks before the trip, we watched Episodes I, II, III, IV and VI. (VI was in V's box and I didn't realize until we went to watch V...which is ridiculous...even watching, I couldn't figure how Luke knew about DV! I never heard...Luke, I am your father...)

continued...

Next, we were headed to Indiana Jones. We had not seen this yet, and it was on DH's list. Remember the pic of my kid with her mood earlier, it wasn't better (okay, maybe it wasn't that kid. DH and I can't remember which was the offender, but it made for a rough 15 wait for the show. One of those that probably included too many threats.)

I didn't get great shots here, but I tried really hard! (I took like 200 shots and deleted at least 150.)

SPOILER alert!

continued again... :)

We decided to head to DTD for lunch---Okay, I decided. UGH. We have yet to have a great experience at DTD. We end up there when someone is crabby.

We went to the SSR bus stop. It took forever for a bus - 20 min- which is the max we've ever waited. (We've always been spoiled. haha) A security guard chatted with us and soon after a bus pulled up. He must have notified someone.

I chatted with the bus driver about Disney. He was laughing about the bus in front of us and explaining that she was super slow. He had a name for this and explained she did it to have less runs. It was probably not very professional on his part (he was kind of young) but it was interesting none the less and spoken in humor. He told explained the stops at SSR and dropped us at the stop closest to walk to DTD.

It was hot and if we had not waited sooo long (really 20 min is not that long) for the bus there, we would have hit the bus stop and taken the DTD bus.

Once we got there, we went to Earl. I asked DH to take the girls to pin trade while I got lunch. He was irritated by this point. (He likes commando, and felt pin trading was wasting time and was generally annoyed. Of course, I was annoyed. I can't keep both DH and DDs happy!) I tried to just make the girls happy and fed them. I told DH to go workout or go do what he wanted to do; we'd meet him. He declined and stayed with us. (I guess he likes to be with us like I do...)

We went to TrendD and Basin. I walked through TrendD and then looked and looked in Basin. DH took one kid to the bathroom. A couple of minutes later, I was done. I was annoyed that I couldn't pick anything and none of the soaps matched the lotions, etc. DD came back angry that she didn't have more time. This was our meltdown day...

Meanwhile, outside to make everything better...

Time to cut our losses and head to the hotel for a break...

Up next: Well rested, happy family goes to Sci Fi!

I know how the FP for Toy Story goes. It was insane. It seems to be the only thing anyone cares about anymore at HS and I can't say that I blame them. My family loves it!!! We just got back on Thursday and the line was terrible, but that was really the worst we saw at an 90 minute wait. Last year it was 110 minutes. We used FP the only for that ride. We got there at 8:00 on an EMH morning and went directly to FP and the time kept getting later and later. By the time we made it to the front the FP return was 10:05 one time and another day 12:05...crazy. I love your daughter's expression eating breakfast...classic happy face. (LOL)

Oh I know that loooong FP line for TSM well! That totally sucks that the people who were there first to ride it, ended up behind all those people who chose to get FPs. We didn't even go NEAR TSM this trip! We decided to avoid it altogether!

Too bad half your crew seems to be in a funk today but it happens to the best of us....

I love all your pics, btw! You take excellent photos! :thumbsup2

Nikki - I enjoyed 'Ohana, but I am planning on booking Kona for next time. My girls don't like the food, and I feel like so much is wasted.

Maybe it was because of what you experienced that they brought in the CMs. Seriously, it was a line of them almost shoulder to shoulder...I wish I took a picture.

I thought it was a shame that they didn't give FPs to those who had to exit, but it happens.

Our funk didn't last too long; thank goodness! (I really am starting to fear Downtown Disney!)

Thanks for the compliment! I am enjoying my SLR; it takes the great shots. I am really proud of some that will appear later. I am learning how to play with apeture/ exposure to not use the flash.
