July 9th 2005 - West Coast Cruise.

Lori and Karen--I sent you an e-mail about Cabo San Lucas.

Sarangel--That sounds like fun! I'll have to check our calendar for sure, but let me know about the exact date/time!

Kim :earsgirl:

Sarangel,
That's a great idea!! Let me know what date and time too, I'm not sure what our schedule is like for that weekend yet.

Suzy

I don't think our passes are good that weekend, but if anyone is interested in meeting for dinner or lunch somewhere, we might be able to make that. It would be fun meeting everyone beforehand.

-Karen

Karen--
Are you a brownie leader? Me too! Cookie sales are going well...started Saturday and Alexis has sold 390 boxes. She's trying to beat last year's total--536! I don't know if that's gonna happen, but she's having fun trying! Our troop had a Disney sleepover in the biggest suite at the Paradise Pier Hotel and spent a day at Disneyland/California Adventure with our cookie money from last year. This year they want to either do a Sea World sleepover or some sort of horseback riding adventure. We'll see....

Sarangel--I think our passes are good every day but Saturday...will have to check for sure. But, as Karen pointed out, we could always meet for dinner or lunch somewhere...Downtown Disney?

Cheri--girl scout cookie shakes? I can't believe I never thought of that!!! :Pinkbounc Can't wait to try it when we get our cookies!

Kim

I don't care if our passes are good or not (most likely not :guilty: ) but we would love to meet you at the park, Downtown Disney or somewhere else for dinner. What a fun idea to get to know some DIS'ers before sailing. Whoo-hoo!

I think we have the most intelligent group of "sailers" to date. Preplanned private outings, precruise meetings, onboard parties. Yup! I think think is going to be fuunnnnnnn :grouphug: . (I didn't say "sailors" 'cuz that makes me think of big bicep'd men with tatoos of dancing ladies)

Here are the dates that Sara and I will be at DL
Arrival 18th in the A.M will be departing the 21st late afternoon
Will be staying at DL hotel (thank you DVC)
Send PM for a contact phone number
Looking forward to meeting any and all who can make it.

Has anyone thought about going to the spa? We did that couple's thing the last cruise, and since our cruise is longer this time, I wouldn't mind trying something else. Also, is the brunch only for adults at Palo? If so, do you take your kids to lunch late?

Darren and I will DEFINATELY be spa'ing it up this trip. We had the couples massage on our last trip and both of us LOVED it. This time, we're booking at the same time, though in separate rooms. It was too distracting worrying if the other was enjoying it!!! The brunch is for adults only at Palo. What we do is check the kids into the clubs. They take them to lunch fairly early, 11:30 I believe, so we let them eat there so we don't have to rush out of Palo.

renknt--how about lunch on the 21st? Our annual passes are blocked out Saturday and Sunday, but we were thinking of going to the parks on Monday the 21st. If we did lunch, that would probably work great for all of us who have annual passes!

Karen and Lori--I definitely want to do the spa thing too! I'm booking the REAS as an anniversary surprise for DH--but wanted to do another massage or something else as well. Maybe a massage to start the cruise and one toward the end. But I'm totally unfamiliar with the other treatments...maybe we'd like something else better? Any advice?

I'm just a massage girl now, since I've been diagnosed as being allergic to almost the whole universe!! I used to LOVE facials, and I used to go all the time, but my face always looked awful after two days later. I could never figure out why. It turns out I'm allergic to a VERY common ingredient in moisturizers. It's even in the hypo-allergenic ones! So, I avoid anything that might involve moisturizers now (I have to specially order mine). So, I'll just be doing a massage, though the Absolute Face and Body would be on my list if not for my allergy!!!!!

Our flights are booked !

We booked our flights today! Flying from Kennedy via Jet Blue to Long Beach Airport. No LAX for us this trip!

Flying in early, 7/4. We will be at DL in time to see the fireworks (Does any one know if they do special fireworks for the 4th like they do at Dis World?).

Spending the week in Anaheim before heading to the ship!

Coming home we have a 1pm flight on Saturday, 7/16. Want to have a full day to recover from all of the fun we are going to have! :earseek:

Keep the POSTS coming in, we are interested in those beach visits!

PS. Lori- Just got home from Jose Tejas, it was delicious!

Kim,

What's the REAS? If it's a massage, we wouldn't be interested, though. Just curious...

Val

P.S. When is your anniversary -- ours is Monday of the cruise (7/11) - 24 years!

Val--the REAS is the Romantic Escape at Sea package offered by DCL. Includes gift basket, couples massage, advance reservations for dinner at Palo, romantic turndown, and champagne breakfast one morning. Our anniversary is actually June 10th, but we're off in July (we're teachers). This is our 10 year anniversary cruise. We'll also be celebrating DH's birthday, which is actually July 1st.

AWESOME!! We're also going to be at DL on the 4th!!! We're leaving the 5th though to go down to San Diego. I'm also hoping for special firworks for the 4th, we'll have to see. Just to let you know, DCL isn't going to be providing transportation to Long Beach airport, only LAX. So, you're going to have to arrange your own transport back to Long Beach. We're flying Continental from EWR, I hate driving out to JFK!!! Also, since we're further south than you, it's about a 2 hour adventure for us to go to JFK. We usually fly out of PHL since it's about an hour from here and the fares are usually lower, but the fare out of EWR was pretty good $300, and it is closer, so we went for it. Also, I would have had to wait until Southwest released their schedule since I'm not flying US Airways for a while!!!!

AS kim stated, it's a package. Darren and I had this booked during our November cruise. It was nice, but we didn't feel it was worth booking again. It was nice not having to worry about the spa and Palo ressies, but we didn't even drink the champagne (not fans) and the champagne breakfast was o.k. We did love the massage, but we're just going to book that separately this time. Two massages and the Palo surcharge is about $200, whereas the package is now $339 (it was $299 last year), BIG difference in price, that will buy me a LOT of drinks on board!!!!

WOW, I'll say that's a lot! I can think of lots of other ways to spend money! Thanks for the info, though.

I''m telling you, I can't WAIT for this cruise! We didn't vacation at all last year -- it was a trying year last year for me(us). I went through breast cancer treatments -- mastectomy, chemo, radiation, hair loss, etc. etc. But, we have many reasons to celebrate this year, as I'm now cancer free!

So many things to be thankful for and the ability to go on this trip is a blessing! Can't wait to meet you all!!! Val & Stu :wave2:

Val:

Congratulations on being cancer free! My friend just finished treatment and got her reconstruction done around Thanksgiving. She is a bit dismayed because her hair is coming back much darker (she was blonde) and curly. However, she is just thankful that she's here and even has hair now. She was diagnosed young--she is 38. We'll all celebrate with you.

We are celebrating our 16th anniversary on board (July 9th). You should try the spa treatment my DH and I tried ;) . It is called the Rasul (I believe--I know they changed the name around when we went). Basically they put you and hubby in a room and give you mud, etc. I'll let you guys figure out the rest as this is a G rated forum. My friends still can't believe Disney offers this.

Anyway, I think I'll try a different treatment, maybe a facial or something. Last time I got a manicure right when I got on board, but I think I'll get that done here before we go (a lot cheaper than on board).

-Karen

Thanks Karen for the encouraging words. My hair has grown back, but unfortunately it came back the same way it was before -- thin and wispy and the same drab color. So, I'm going to keep it really short and I still wear my red wig. People tell me I look so much younger and it gives me a softer look. Plus, it's so much easier to deal with -- no more hairsprays, gels, mousse, etc. And less time to get ready, not having to style my hair! I love it. I had been quite used to wearing wigs since I wear them in almost every play I do.

My DH and I are actors/singers in community theatre -- in fact, that's where we met 25 years ago in "Camelot" -- I was Guenevere and he was Lancelot. We still do quite a few shows a year and I almost always end up wearing a wig anyway.

Well, now you'll know me when you see me -- I'll be the lady with the short red hair :cutie:

Can't wait to meet you and the others. Val

Hey guys---

After a difficult and freezing week in NYC, I'm back in SoCal and I must say, I'm pretty doggone happy about that, especially since I'm ready to get back to regular posting.

My plan, before I read today's posts, was to joke around a little (as is my wont, they say) about the bad weather and other annoyances of my week. Val, your situation and courage, and your candor about them, puts things in their proper perspective. Suddenly, my week doesn't seem so "difficult" after all. In fact, I'm thinking my week was pretty good, in the grand scheme of things. I, too, am very glad you've defeated this thing, and I can't wait to meet you.

Kim--
Guess where I am right now?? The "soccerfamily" is spending this weekend at DS Timmy's soccer tournament, which is being played in San Bernadino. However, our hotel is the Hilton on Haven (sp??) Avenue in Ontario. I went driving around looking for a grocery store and discovered that just two miles from the hotel is the border of (you've probably already guessed)---Rancho Cucamonga!!! I had no idea!! :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 Yes, folks, this is the same "Rancho Cucomonga" that everyone made a point of saying sounds so cool (it actually is a cool place, though it could do with more grocery stores--took me a while to find one). Anyway, I thought you'd find that amusing.

Chris

Chris--the south end of Rancho Cucamonga is definitely short on grocery stores...it's more commercial. We live on the northeast end of the city. Welcome!! You should check out the new Victoria Gardens mall if you have time--fun to walk around, a movie theater, and good restaurants. At least it's not raining--it was pouring yesterday!
