001 is definitely the code for the US from the UK, then it's the area code, ie 407 or whatever, and then the number.
You dial the US the same way from Germany 001 + area code + number

I'm hoping to skype instead of call, tho we have 2 global phones. Bringing our baby laptop to do that as well as blog. So glad the 1st baltic folks seem more than willing to share info. I'm counting on them. I have ~~~~19~~~ days until we leave..holy shizzle. I am not ready.

I am sure John can answer this when he gets home from London tomorrow. He always calls me on his phone![]()
Three weeks from London! I checked weather.com today to see what the expected temps are in all the ports for the next ten days and it looks like highs in the upper 60s, lower 70s is what we can expect in a couple of weeks when we're going. That is important to me because I have got to see what we're packing - and the boys are gonna need some long pants after all. I'm planning to do my shopping today, so I'm about to make a first-run at packing - at least laying out outfits so I know what pieces I still need. It was 97 here yesterday.
Currency: I pre-ordered pounds, euros, and kroners from Norway, Denmark and Sweden. We'll get Rubles when we get to St. Petersburg or onboard if they have them to exchange. It was fun to see the various currency when it arrived. We didn't get a lot for each country but enough to tip the tour guide and buy a souvenir. The boys each collect the thimbles and spoons so we want to get one of each in each country.
I updated the first page with the Palo brunch days/times. I had the list for the 2nd group but not the first group to put on there, but I'm guessing everyone knows which group they are in. LisaTex, if you want to send me the list of the 1st groupers, I'll add it.
Our FE gifts are done - just need to package/label them so they'll be ready for delivery!
Yesterday began the last full two-week work-period for me before we travel, so I am going to be working some extra time so I can use it while we're away. If I don't, I'll come back from this marvelous vacation with only 2 days of annual leave available (but I earn 3/4 day every two weeks). So the more I work in these two weeks, the less "leave" I have to take. And the less work I'll have left on my desk waiting for me when I get backI am counting down the work days til we leave - 13 for me.
Carol, I had read there is a McD's right by the hotel so we also were skipping on the hotel breakfast - tripadvisor reviews were that it was def overpriced. Although I suspect we'll sleep right through breakfast the first morning
Jill - thx for the link about the ship coming thru the channel. And I still need to check out Andrew's thread about Dover.
Yikes, just reading where the first Baltic cruisers are experiencing pretty rough seas. I guess I better read up on seasick meds, lol.![]()
Anticipating those blogs as well - then again, I always wrestle with "to read the trip reports or not to read" - surprise vs screw up that could have been prevented![]()
We are still planning on showing up at 11 am. I figured if we cannot board the ship that we'll take a cab to the local city center and walk around. Of course, this is depend on whether they take your luggage but I'm going to assume it is like a carribean cruise where you drop your luggage off with the porter and then, go check-in.I am reading them-can't help myself!
Good question about time at the port. The cruise before ours doesn't get
in until 10:00am. Is that still right? Does that mean we can't board until 1or 2?
I wouldn't want to get to the port early just to wait around for 4 hours. This makes it hard to plan!

I agree, I didn't even think of this...Oh! I didn't even think of that because our 2 DCL cruises were so smooth that everyone thought I was weird for bringing my pile of anti-seasick stuff. Thanks for the heads up!
