Well, this trip was good, and bad. We stayed at the Dolphin. I booked 2 std rms. I am a Starwood member, so I got an automatic upgrade to lakeview. Check in was quick and painless. We get to the rooms, and the 1st room (they were 3 doors from each other), is a view of a flat rooftop! UGLY! (and yes, I looked as far out the window in all directions to check if I could see any water, of any kind. the only water was some standing rainwater on the flat rooftop!)I probably would have been ok with that, even though the girl at the check-in desk had specifically told me that we were upgraded to lakeview, because we HAD only paid for a std room, but the 2nd room REEKED of cigarette smoke! There was NO WAY that we were using that room! So, we trooped back down the the check in desk, waited in line again, and they nicely switched us to 2 resort view balcony rooms! These rooms were directly across the hall from each other, which was fine. We originally had 1 of the rooms as a king bed, and they couldn't get us that and have both rooms on the same floor, but that was ok with us. We took the upgraded rooms happily!
We visited MK, Epcot, and DHS this trip... we never made it to AK, but we just didn't have a lot of time, and AK is our least favorite park. There were crowds, but not too crazy like I had expected it to be. We used FP a couple of times. I think on TOT, and once on BTMRR. We went on TSM by arriving early and going straight to it, and waited about 10 minutes. This was a slower paced trip, and we really enjoyed it. We ate at WCC, and ended up in the smaller room, which was quieter, but still fun. And we ate at 50's PTC, and the waitress joked around a little, but it was not too crazy. The food at both places was nothing fancy, but tasty and filling. We are not foodies, so this was right up our alley! and of course, I had several Dole whips! I ADORE those things!
It did rain each day, for at least a while, not too bad. It was actually cooler at WDW that back home (Oklahoma), so we were not sweltering. We spent an afternoon at the Grotto pool, which was very nice, and it was great to have a drink and relax. there were people around, but not what I would call crowded.
now for the bad stuff.... on our 2nd day, me and DH were in Fantasyland when the fireworks started. We stopped to watch... it is really neat to see them from here, it seems like they are all around you! A couple of times I actually felt some of the firework debris fall on my face as we were watching.. no biggie. But, after they ended, we were heading into Mickey's Philharmagic, when a lady ran up behind my DH and started slapping him on the back of his shoulder. I guess a spark from the fireworks had landed on him, and a slight breeze caught it, and his shirt was on fire!!!! Just a small fire, but the lady saw it and slapped it out before it could harm DH. It did burn a small hole (nickel sized) in his shirt, but only left a red mark for a couple of days on him! I am so glad that lady saw it, or it could have been really bad!
Then, on the day before we left, I was walking on the walkway between the Swan and Dolphin, and there was a patch of water on the pavement that I did not see, and when I stepped on it, it was like I was stepping on a sheet of ice, it was so slick! I fell, landing on my left knee, and man, did it hurt. I managed to get to the room, put ice on it and rested for about an hour. DH thought maybe a brace would help, so he hobbled me down to the car, and we went to a Walgreens for a brace, but it didn't really help. On the way back to the room, we checked at the concierge desk about a wheelchair, there was no way I was going to be able to keep walking like this. By now it had been about 2-3 hrs since I fell. The concierge got me a wheelchair to use, then insisted I fill out a report. they offered to take me to the hospital, but I really thought it would get better on its own if I just rested it (hence the wheelchair). The kids and DH pushed me around World showcase that night, then we went to see Fantasmic, but no more rides for me... I could not bend my knee to be able to get into the ride vehicles. We were supposed to go to the parks again that next day, but decided to go home instead. I was still hurting and we had driven, so had a long way home. when I got home, I did an xray (I work in an imaging dept. in a hospital), and my kneecap is fractured in three places!!! I have been to the Dr., they have me in a full leg brace until Aug. 4th (my next appt.), then they will xray it again, or possibly do an MRI, depending on if it still is not healed. It really sucks that i cannot bend my knee AT ALL... it is very painful still, and makes doing even the simplest things very difficult. But, it will get better, I am sure!
So, even though some bad things happened on this trip, overall it was fun, and I am glad we did not go commando this time. It was nice to relax and take it all in! Plus, even though we drove, when we got home we were not exausted!
