Stichy Id like to do some meet up.. but Im a newbie cruisee too
OK, so when will it BE APRIL 6th to Disney?? waiting to check in![]()
Yay! I got my Palo reservation for Saturday night at 7pm.
No brunch or high tea available, oh well.
Now what time does our luggage have to be outside the door for pickup? I just realized we may be carrying our dress clothes off, lol.
According to another diser, it could be as late as 3 a.m.!!
I wasn't able to book High Tea or Brunch!![]()
Really hoping to get them once we board! Plenty of Palo dinner ressies available though!
you mean we can book reservations, but not check in till later, what a long night this will be....![]()
I thought this was the main meet thread??
If it was posted before, I must have missed it. Maybe now that we are getting closer AND getting better reports on the areas of the ship, more people would be interested.
I wouldn't have any idea on how to organize it either, but I WOULD like to meet everyone!
Congrats to those of you that got the reservations you wanted! When my reservation time opened up, I completely forgot until later that morning, so of course the time I wanted for Palo Brunch was not available for 3 people (me, DH, and eldest DD's first time at Palo). Therefore, it appears that my eldest will be starting brunch 1/2 hour before me and DH! I am hoping to get that changed once we board.
This means, of course, that I need to get checked-in so I can pick an early boarding time, but the problem with traveling with a non-family member is that you are at their mercy when it comes to getting you the information you need. Frustrating when I am the only one that seems to be concerned with schedules!Come on people, cruising isn't something to just "do", you must "prepare"!
If it were so easy, you wouldn't appreciate it so much!
It would be nice if, just once, someone else in my family did all the preparations for our trips. Eh, maybe I wouldn't be so good with that though, as I have a hard time letting anyone be in charge of anything that affects me! God forbid there ever be any problem with the ship, because then you would see me out there taking over, directing everyone on what to do and how to do it, since of course no one else will understand the importance of getting it all done correctly and quickly!
Speaking of being in control and in charge, putting a meet together is something that is pretty easy to do - someone picks a time and place, and hopes that people show up. At least, that is how it was on a previous cruise I was on.
Problem though is that people tend to think their time on board will go one way, but when you actually get on board, it goes a different way! So you think you will have 40 people at your meet, and only 5 show up, and everyone has hurt feelings because no one showed up.
disclaimer - I have never actually said I would show up at any meet for any cruise, I just read this after our cruises.
For example, for my family on previous Disney cruises, we board as early as possible (hey, start the vacation asap!). Head up to eat, because we never eat breakfast on cruise morning (gorging all cruise, might as well give the tummy a break for one morning!).
I take a break from eating to go stand in line for any dining changes we may have. Not on every cruise, but sometimes. My family continues to explore the food choices.
After eating/gorging, we go to our room and I start unpacking our carry-ons because someone will always need something and only mom knows where it is at.Family checks out the balcony and looks for jellyfish and turtles in the water.
DH takes a nap. Might be on the balcony, might be on the bed where I am now unloading the suitcases that start showing up. He doesn't care. He likes his mid-day on the boat nap. Clothing landing on him as I put things away just keeps him warm.
Safety drill time arrives!
Safety drill time ends!
For some, it is time for the sail-away party. We tried this once, but the lure of watching us leave port tugs at us quite strongly.
Quickly we head up to the uppermost, forward deck of the ship and watch the ship sail out of Port Canaveral, waving to the people on shore and watching the seagulls fly overhead. If we are lucky, we spot a dolphin or turtle escorting us out to sea! Hopefully I have a froo-froo drink in my hand by now. Froo-froo drink, wind in the hair, dolphin sighting, now the vacation begins!
Then, if we have early seating, it is to the cabin to get ready for dinner. Late seating, time for the show. And the switch later, depending on dinner/show schedule.
Anyway, this is why my family never makes it to a meet. Not because we are wanting to be anti-social, it just seems like the times when someone sets up a meet tend to be when we are in our "boarding routine".
Now if anyone wants to meet up at sail-away at the front of the ship, I am all for it! However, some people love the deck parties, and if this is your first time cruising, you may wish to check it out, so meeting me at the front of the ship would cause you to miss something your family might just decide is a must-do for every future cruise.
If anyone has an idea though of a place to meet and a time, just post it and see if anyone else thinks it will work for their schedule. Never hurts to try!
And if anyone will be at AKV or AKL July 2-5 and would like to meet up, I am game!![]()
