July 5, 2011 - Mickey's WONDERful Alaskan Adventure

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. its on the chilly side and looking like rain here today.

we are off to pick apples tomorrow and then be making some apple butter and whatever else sounds good to make with apples :thumbsup2

Good morning everyone! Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I was supposed to go to lunch with a friend from some previous cruises but her youngest son was sick so we had to reschedule. Since I had the afternoon free DH Mark and I went to the Toy Story double feature in 3D and then our to an early dinner. It was great seeing them both on the big screen again.

It was a chilly here in the Chicago area as well but I guess us none of us are afraid of the cold as we're going to Alaska! :)

Good morning everyone - giving us a bump back from page 3.

Did you all see this thread on the main board **** Vancouver FAQ Thread ****? Lot's of great information in there. We're planning on flying in a day or two early to explore Vancouver.

Boy this is just a very quiet group.

We was debating if we wanted to stay in Seattle or Vancouver a few days before. asked Hubby to decide what HE wants. so it sounds like vancouver is where we are headed to. Either way it looks like we will have to spend one nite in Washington before going on to Vancouver because of the time frames of the amtrak. oh well it will give us a nite of rest to adjust to the time change that way.

I have been reading up on all the areas to give myself a little bit of information as hubby is calling me the itinerary organizer. :rotfl2: I just prefer to be prepared and enjoy the vacation versus going in blindlessly and having a stressed out vacation. seems like every vacation i don't plan and we just wing it ends up a mess but all that have been planned out well in advance have been some great vacations.

Waitlist deposits were due yesterday and people are dropping out. I have been calling in the last few days and there are lots of rooms opening up. Call in if you want to change your stateroom!

This does seem to be a quiet group compared to some. My last cruise (the 2009 DVC Member Cruise) went to 4 threads in less than a year. Of course other past cruises I've been on have been even more talkative. They didn't call us the blabbermouths for nothing!

I'm sure as more join in we'll be more talkative and plan. For many they have other trips before this one. I'm always up to getting to know my fellow cruisers because I think it adds to the fun of the cruise.

I'm really happy with my stateroom so no worries about that. As for the dropping out that happens every cruise. You get people popping in on booking day and then you never hear from them again. Hopefully we won't lose anyone from the thread. Seems like a nice group.

We're still here!!!! DH and I got some books and a DVD on Alaska from the library the other day. The books give you a few ideas on what to check out when you are there. We watched a show last night - 1000 places to see before you die. The episode was about Alaska. It was amazing. You guys should check it out if you get a chance. Unfortunately I don't remember what channel it was on :sad2: We set up the DVR to catch "Alaska" shows and that was the first one we got.

What a great idea about the DVR! I wanted one of Travel Channels Great Cruises shows about Alaska (with Samantha Brown). They were on Royal Caribbean. It was a year or more ago but I'll have to check the line-up and see if they show it again.

The nice thing about the cruise being far away is that we have plenty of time to plan and budget for things!

I agree to getting to know my fellow cruisers. our last cruise we talked about a yr out and by time the cruise came around the kids had been trading valentines day cards, christmas cards, etc. thru snail mail so it was fun to see them when they got to meet each other in person finally.

i am now a girl scout leader for my daughter's troop so been keeping busy with that as well as researching for the cruise.:worship: have to see my dr too for my arm. plus i will be changing to the nite shift soon at work so i am not going to know if i am coming or going soon. :scared1:

i was able to get the stateroom we wanted on the first try so i wont need to change rooms. what all stateroms you have? we have 7552. which is midship.

Good morning everyone! We're in 7122 which is one of the Navigator Verandah's. They are aft and are our favorite.

Getting to know each other is great for kids and adults. In fact I just had lunch with a friend that I met through the DIS and sailed with in 2005 and 2006.

even better :rotfl2: j/k but that is kewl i think i love disney more then my dh does. :confused3 he just likes disney as a cruise line as we have sailed one time on an oddball cruise and was crammed into the bottom deck complete bow of the ship and the room was so small we could barely move around. and we had 5 of us then two teen age boys, dh, me and my daughter was only 3 months old. but thats what ya get for a freebie cruise though.

I have added a link to your thread on the main index page. Have a great cruise!

Hi,
I'm just joining the group! I have booked 2 cabins for myself (53 at time of cruise), my DD (17) and my mom and stepfather. My stepfather has always wanted to see Alaska so I thought that this is the only way to do it. I just have to cross my fingers that everyone will be healthy enough to travel as my parents are in their 80's. But they're hale and hearty now so hopefully we'll all be onboard in 2011! I'm hoping my DS can join us too but he'll be at university and I'm not sure whether he'll be working or going to school so I thought I'd just add him later if possible.

This sounds like a great group and it's wonderful that people are already looking into excusions and reading up on the ports!

Welcome aboard Lynda! I'll be 54 come cruise time.

We may not be as talkative as other groups but it does seem to be a great group of people. I'm sure we'll all be talking more as the weeks go on and we get closer to the cruise.

I love planning as I said earlier so I've already started dreaming about what I want to do on this cruise!

I will be more talkative as it gets closer. Right now I am planning for a WDW trip in December and a Baltic cruise in the summer. Then I can start thinking about Alaska!

We got the following DVDs from our local library:

Also be sure to watch/DVR Extreme Alaskan Adventures on the Travel Channel. The next showing is 10/21/2009 at 11 AM.

We are booked as well. DH and 2 kids. My grandmother and potentially my mother in law will also come with us. I'm a little disappointed that the cruise won't be point to point, but since our airfare into Seattle is CHEAP, we're doing this anyway. I figure we can do Alaska by land another time. Looking forward to exploring Vancouver for a few days first. More later . . .

Good morning everyone!

Guess I just am so chatty I don't mind being involved in multiple threads. We too have a trip to Disney in late November/early December. Then we are cruising next July with friends we made way back on our 2004 holiday cruise and sailed with again in 2006. In fact our 2006 blabbermouth thread is still active. :lmao:

Great choices. I'll have to be on the lookout for those.
