July 28, 2007 - "Rome-ancing the Mouse Cruisers" -11 days!

Hi all, I am on the June 6 cruise but I had a question for those making t-shirts, lanyards, etc. Did you have a hard time finding a vendor that would do these for you? My wife made us a t-shirt but the company told us we had to remove the mickey ears and the word "Disney". Now I understand Disney wants to protect their trademark and people are afraid of the big mouse, but if you're not selling them and they are a minor expense for a MAJOR Disney expense I didn't think it would be a big deal.

How did you guys handle this issue? Letter from Disney? Found a vendor who didn't care? Thanks!

For those of you that have visited the ports we will visit in the Med,

Do we really need to use a fanny/shoulder bag with metal reinforced straps or hidden zippers? We're used to going into NYC and I don't use a special bag, although we don't have a huge pickpocket problem (we have enough other problems LOL). What I'm really asking is just being street savy enough ? Can I use my fanny pack with exposed clip and zippers or should I buy a fanny/travel bag with the hidden zippers and reinforced straps? I don't want to be paranoid and we are used to being very aware in crowds in a large city.

I trust your opinions.

Thanks,
Maryann

Hi Kyla,

I prefer design E for lanyards, but will be happy with either.....
We'd still like 4 please with plastic badge holders. If we choose badge reels are they as well as the plastic holder?:confused3 - sorry to be dense.
Thanks again

All the lanyards will come with the plastic/vinyl badge holder. Just let me know if you want to add on a badge reel. The badge reel attaches to the lanyard and the badge holder attaches to the badge reel. OR if you don't want the badge reel, the badge holder attaches directly to the lanyard. I will try to find a picture of a lanyard with a badge holder and badge reel.
113321pic1-thumb.jpg
Here is the lanyard with the badge holder (except ours will be vertical)
113321424_front-thumb.jpg
Here is the lanyard with badge reel (except ours will come as two pieces: a lanyard with J hook (as shown in the above pic). The J hook hooks behind the badge reel on the belt clip. See the little tab on the badge reel? That will snap onto the top of the badge holder.

I was thinking of ordering once I get everyone's payment and bringing them to Barcelona or the DIS meetup to pass out.

The vendor in the above post was recommended by other DISers who have been using them for years for several cruises for making up lanyards. I email them a jpg of our design and they had no problem with it. I called DCL and told them what I was doing and if they could refer me to someone to ask about if there was a problem. DCL said no problem with our design as long as we don't use the word Mickey Mouse in connection with the image. I asked about using "Disney Magic" (we decided to remove DCL from the lanyard and replace it with Disney Magic because of the length) and they said no problem. The other DISers that I talked to said they found the sensitivity is when you use the word "Disney". The Disney font doesn't seem to be a problem. But then DCL said no problem with us using "Disney magic". They also said we could use "Enjoying the Magic" instead of Disney Magic if we were trying to be cautious. AS LONG AS WE ARE NOT SELLING AND ITS STRICTLY FOR PERSONAL USE. So that means you can't post it on cafe press or whatever for people to order cause thats selling. DCL said that if they really had a problem with it, the most they would do is someone from guest services might come over and ask us not to wear them. But since I described to them what all we had on the lanyard, they basically were fine with it, AS LONG ITS FOR PERSONAL USE AND WE ARE NOT SELLING IT.

Lanyard Vote:

Still like A but will go with E if that's the majority choice. Please put us down for two badge reels, too. Thank you.

Sallie,
My daughter went to Sacred Heart and loved it. Yes we'll talk private vs. public. My daughter and her husband live in Levittown - Island Trees School district though, not Levittown. I taught 1st grade for 3 years when I first started teaching. Now that I'm older, I don't know how you do it! They are cute but tiring.

Andrew,
Glad to hear from you. Thanks for the jet lag tips.

Helen,
You, Sallie and I have to talk shop. It will be fun to compare schools across the ocean. And either time is good for us for the dis meet. Just tell us where and when. Thanks for doing this.

Maryann

Thanks, hope the tips help, done transatlantic so many times now and LA and LV are the most in hours 11+ so a vetran with kids

It is hard to believe the Magic leaves in 2 days!! It was fun to go and read the thread.

Thre have been several upgrades and everyone is so excited!!

Yes Saturday it comes and it arrives the day i arive in Majorca just across the water, I am tempted to get a one hour boat ride accross to see it in Barcelona

Glad to see you Andrew and btw - the place looks heavenly - enjoy it and relax.

We will take 5 lanyards w/the reel thingy ;) - whatever letter you guys choose is fine with me. :)

Sunday 10:00 am for the dismeet sounds good.

One grab bag sounds good to me too.

I feel like I am missing something

Yes really looking forward to it now, peace is what I want this time

Thank you again for your hard work

Hey all, another day, another 1,000 posts to read!!:goodvibes Yes, I am a teacher, too, fourth grade!!:teacher:

Love the map idea, it would be cool to see where we are all from!:dance3:

I vote for "E"....ship colors! I definitely want the badge holders on them as well.:yay:

The DISmeet saga............ok, we could do 10am, or 4pm on Sunday..........my concern about the topdecks is it might be hard to find a spot big enough for all of us and the weather could be a factor.........The Promenade Lounge is usually pretty quiet at those times of day (unless something special is taking place there.) Another idea would be the main lobby where the central elevators are (is that Deck 4?)

Also, I think our consenus is to make one bag about $15-$20 with our hometown on front to exchange (to avoid space in luggage issues!)

Welcome back Andrew....................thx for linking us, Lynn, ............I'm excited too to read about the transatlantic sail:boat:

Thanks, do not worry if I post less, I am resting!

no, i don't have a cabin number. i will probably have to wait until they send out our documents before i know. maybe they will "save" my old room.
Keep checking DCL site it will suddently show up, my GTY in 2005 for the repo was just over a month out. Appeared overnight. Before tickets sent out.

:wave2: everybody! I made it - landed at MCO at 6:35 - landing was much better than takeoff. A little bumpy coming below cloud line but still all in all a fantastic trip.

I am now safely ensconced in my hotel room at the Comfort Inn off of Palm Parkway, first time I'm staying here. Its alright - comes with fridge, micro and safe so all the basic are met. Wouldn't be bad but I'm a little spoiled!

But on Saturday and Sunday I will be checking into Port Orleans Riverside. I figure that I can walk the trails at Riverside or from Riverside to the original Port Orleans. Also, with paddle boats and bikes I can get some exercise in. Has a back to back session on Tues and Wed just before I left so the legs are tired. But I'm :yay: I DID IT~ ! I ACTUALLY DID IT ON MY OWN!!!

I guess after this - I have no excuse do I?

ANDREW: Hope you fet to feeling better soon - you worry us when your BP lingers like that. BTW, where in the world are those pictures you posted? Looks like :cloud9: Hurry up and get better!

OK - off for now - have checked in with all 3 kiddos (must be feeling better - now their kiddos instead of heathens!) :lmao: :rotfl2: , Mom, Spouse, BFF and other BFF. So that accounts for everyone - now I can shut off the phone or ignore others checking up on me! :rotfl:

LANYARDS: My vote is still for A - please put us down for 6 badge reels - for $1 - I can always re-use them for when I go to Vegas or when DH walks off and leaves club cards in machines. :rotfl2:

OK - everyone - be well and take care! :pixiedust:

Thank you

Evening,
Sorry I was away from the computer today ... finishing up a nine-month community leadership series. OKC is booming right now. What a wonderful experience. Anyway, I'll post a revised (again) design w/out the "Cruise Line" portion, subbing "Magic". Kyla and me are checking on restrictions of using Dis font and Mickey head. Hopefully it won't be a problem. Thanks for patience of everyone. Look for revised design tomorrow morning.
Brian

Try not to look a tourist La Rambler in Barcelona is the worst, try to blend in even passport author said they had their pocket picket in that area.

It isnt''bad'' but take normal steps do not look a tourist, its the cmcorders etc that show you up.

Italy can also be an issue, its not something to worry over,, but be careful and leave some credit cards and money in the hotel or cruise ship safe.

Kyla,

Did you have to get a waiver or did the vendor just take you at your word? We have ~25 people in our party. My wife made a logo using Micky as a Roman Legionaire and on his shield says "Disney Medditerean Cruise 2007". On the back says "Disney's Roman Legion" with all of our names. Very cool shirt. We have ZERO desire to sell it just wear it as a group for the sail away party and a few other times. But the company said remove the ears and the word Disney.

Now I'm not sure that some company is just going to take our word for it and I find it hard myself to take some random Disney employees word without an official release. However, at the end of the day I don't think Disney would give a rats behind about our shirt except maybe they wish they came up with the idea.

:wave2: everyone - I'm in my hotel room waiting to connect with a friend but all of a sudden I'm so sleepy. I can now officially say that I'm in deep dope dope. :rotfl2:

I don't know if it was all the excitement of the small catnap I had on the airplane but I am falling asleep. Had a bit of a problem adjusting to EST, ended up staying up until 4:30 EST which is when I usually fall asleep in PST. Then at 9:30 FL time, the maid came a knocking. Seems the DO NOT DISTurb sign either flew off in the night or walked off during the night. I was told to stick it between the doorjamb and the handle. :headache: Well, Duh, I didn't think about that. I usually stay in hotels and can't remember the last time I stayed in a motel. LOL - teach me to be so :snooty:

Anyway, if 3 lousy hours are killing me - what will 12 hrs do???? I really think I'm in trouble good thing we come in on the 26th - I fear I may sleep the whole day of the 27th! I wanted to hit some spots in Barcelona and saw that many port excursions were cancelled. Does anyone know if its for the whole summer? Or just the first couple sailings until they work something out?

OK I'm getting long winded again - so I'll check back. BTW :rolleyes1 I did manage to go shopping for an hour and managed to find some fantastic lightweight tennis shoes/sandals for the cruise. Ladies - they are fantastic! I  them. Have 1 pair on as I speak! They are the EasySpirit Squadras (spirit level 1 for walking - light activity) . I got them in beige and Navy. They only weigh about as much or a bit less than the crocs do. But no laces!!!! Yeah- I'm breaking in my beige ones now. I would recommend going this route as they have a sandal look to them but protect like a tennis shoe. They have 2 cutouts that air your feet out but the toes are covered and the back has astretchy strap that allows your heel to breathe! Paid some $$ for them but I've come to figure out that you don't mess with feet on cruises - protect them and wear comfort over looks. These just happen to have both! :thumbsup2

OK - thats my find for the day - SO FAR! DH did say to have a good time. ;) Later all

Laura,

I bought a pair of those easy spirit 1/2 sandal 1/2 sneaker shoe too, but havent tried them yet. Glad to hear they are comfy.

Andrew,

Thanks for the input about safety. I think I'm obsessing.
Glad to hear you are resting. Sometimes that's the best medicine.

OMG - I spend a few weeks away at Science camp with my son and you guys write over 30 pages for me to read. guess i'll be busy this weekend. :surfweb:

Can you believe it? We're getting closer!!!! The kids only have 4 more weeks of school, then the days till the cruise will be agonizing.

Just one thing I found funny - thought I'd share with the class. We got another copy of our trip itinerary from DVC. In it is a line that reads "At least 90 days before your departure enter in the passport numbers online...." It then gives instructions for going online and doing it through my online checkin.

Ok, So I am thinking 90 days or more is when I want to do this. Except that we are already under the 90 days, and the doc I have to fill out online says I can't until 5/14. Weird.

are you a first timer? i think 5/14 is the 75 day mark, when you can book excursions and fill out your information.

I'm a first-timer, so hoping we can still get the excursions we want on Monday.

I finally booked our air today :woohoo:

We'll be arriving in Barcelona on the 25th. I expect we'll take it easy that first day, then on Thursday I'm hoping to go to Monserrat. We'll probably tour around the city on Friday, hitting la Sagrada Familia and other spots, including Las Ramblas. I'm not sure what time we'll board the ship on Saturday. Maybe we'll head over there when we check out of the hotel since we will have our luggage with us.

Still haven't booked a room to stay, but I'm open to ideas. :)

Oh, and if anyone is looking for table partners for 2nd dining we're a family of 3.

Also for your info,

I emailed DCL this morning (and got a reply back in 5 hours).

I asked "Some of the people who Im cruising with say they have received a
DVD about the med. Sadly I have not received this, would it be possible
to get one sent out?
Also, as some of the excursions are late back to the ship, if dinner
is missed what will the options be for food.
Many thanks for you help and I look forward to your reply. We are
getting very excited about cruise."

Their reply was "Some of the shore excursions certainly are an all-day event! For Guestswho may not make it back to the Disney Magic for dinner in the dining rooms, the Buffet on Deck 9 will be open for dinner. If you are totally "worn out", Room Service is also available.

We are still mailing out the Mediterranean DVD to all Guests sailing on
our 10 and 11 Night cruises. Yours will be in the mail shortly; it's a
keeper, for sure!

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to sailing with you!

Angela"

Thank you so much for posting that. I was thinking that perhaps they didn't think we were capable of watching a dvd.

Ok, I NEED TO LOSE ABOUT 50 AS WELL!!!!!!!!!!! Perhaps, a cruise isn't the best idea???:rotfl2: :thumbsup2 :cool1: :lmao: :goodvibes :confused3
Anyway, let's all challenge each other.........10 lbs. by May 31st???:wizard:

I'm so psyched since we booked excursions......less than 3 months all!!!

Here is my weight story:

I am 5'8" and I weighed 177 on Jan 1st this year. I wanted to loose 27 pounds by our cruise. I have limited my calories to 1200 per day. I do not exercise....although I wish I had time. I do walk the dog.

So far, I have lost 16 pounds. I weighed 161 this morning. I seem to have stopped losing weight. I told my husband if I want to keep losing I most likely will have to figure out how to fit in working out in the schedule. Those last 11pounds do not want to drop off.

OK Ladies - I too am trying to lose weight. My thyroid stopped working, despite my telling the dr, took him 4 years to agree with me. So now I am trying to lose the 50 lbs that I gained. Wish me luck.

Ok I have played around more on the first page, how about everyone saying if they are celebrating anything, on the cruise, and /or before the cruise from today onwards?

My husband's birthday is August 7th. I am supposed to not say anything, but you know I just can do that.

so we are at about 94. Getting closer to 100.

I'm just seeing if there is enough interest to even place an order. Once I see enough interest, my plan is to ask/vote what people want exactly, what it should say, what color, etc. I was thinking of ordering once I get everyone's payment and bringing them to Barcelona to pass out. So cost should be around $2.50 to $3.50 depending on what we choose. Here is a link to some samples.
The other DISsers have used the 1/2" lanyards and say they are very comfortable.
http://www.kennyproducts.com/Mercha...&Store_Code=KPI&Category_Code=Custom-Lanyards
Here are the badge holders that attach to the lanyard or badge reel:
Badge holder vertical http://www.kennyproducts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=KPI&Product_Code=372
This is the one that the other cruises recommend: http://www.laminationstation.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=806&item=BH506F&type=store

Options:
1)1/2" custom printed lanyard with badge holder ($2.50) http://www.kennyproducts.com/Merchant2/LAN101sample3.htm
1a) Same as option 1 but adds a badge reel for about a $1. (Really, this is an add-on option) The badge reel is removable, so you can just wear it clipped to you belt or purse when you don't want to use the lanyard. We only need a minimum order of 10 blank badge reels. ($3.50) http://www.kennyproducts.com/Mercha...en=PROD&Store_Code=KPI&Product_Code=425-blank
2)plain lanyard and custom printed badge reel ($2.50): http://www.kennyproducts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=KPI&Product_Code=424

Kyla - thanks so much for organizing this. i would have replied earlier, but I was in the mountains with no internet or cell service.

Is it too late to be added? We are a party of 4. We would be interested in lanyards or anything that you put together.

thanks

carrie

are you a first timer? i think 5/14 is the 75 day mark, when you can book excursions and fill out your information.

Yeah we are a first timer - so I totally understand why May 14th is important. I just find it ironic that the wording chosen by DVC says that I have to enter my info at least 90 days prior. That tells me 90 or more days, not 75 or less days.

But then again - i told them back in February and March that their online site doesn't consider the UK. They still haven't figured that part out, so I guess they will be slow to learning.

BTW - I work in Software QA, so I naturally look for things that are wrong or don't make sense. Bad habit, but at least I do my job well.

Keep them coming ;)

I missed the original post. Is this for the DIS Meet on Sunday? Count us in.

Thank you so much for posting that. I was thinking that perhaps they didn't think we were capable of watching a dvd.

We got the DVD yesterday & watched it yesterday afternoon. I was hoping they would have information on what kind of things to do on the ship, so I was disappointed that they didn't. On the other hand, it was nice to see the excursions - some of the views are breathtaking.

OK - I read a lot more posts and wanted to comment, but now I can't find them all.

So..

As for a meet - I missed out on signing up for the Palo Brunch, so i would be interested in meeting everyone and bringing a goodie bag from our hometown. Any time is good for us, since I have no prior obligations at the moment. (waiting on 75 days and all)

Speaking of hometowns - if someone is doing a map, put us down for Manteca, CA. Anyone nearby interested in getting together pre-cruise? We might go south for a while when the kids get out of school. We like to leave them with my MIL for a few weeks each summer. However the last two summers wild fires have broken out in the area and trapped them in. Scary to be 400 miles from your kids watching a wild fire on cnn, knowing they are in the house.

Excursions and Spa time - where do I even begin? We are primarily only focused on Rome. We have one excursion we like, but are looking into doing it for cheaper on our own with some friends that will be on board. We have no interest in seeing the vatican, would rather spend all day in the historic district. When thinking of the other ports we are still undecided.

Questions from a newbie -
Laundry on board, do the machines take quarters like in a laundry mat? I would like to be prepared to operate them prior to coming on board.

In ports where we have to take another boat to get to shore, do we have to pay for that if we are not taking any excursions? We were thinking of just going ashore and looking around, then coming back to the ship in a few ports. But we will stay onboard if we have to pay for it.

and last but most important of all

Andrew, I really hope you start to get better. You do a lot of really hard work for all of us. I am really thankful for all your help. I hope your vacation coming up does the trick.

To add a badge reel http://www.kennyproducts.com/Mercha...en=PROD&Store_Code=KPI&Product_Code=425-blank, will be another $1.
I was thinking of ordering once I get everyone's payment and bringing them to Barcelona or the DIS meetup to pass out.

I posted this on the previous page, but in case you haven't seen. Some people were confused on how things attach together. Hopefully, this will clear it up:

Here is the lanyard with the badge holder (except ours will be vertical)

Here is the lanyard with badge reel (except ours will come as two pieces: a lanyard with J hook (as shown in the above pic). Each badge reels has a belt clip in back. The J hook hooks on the belt clip of the badge reel. See the little tab on the badge reel? That will snap onto the top of the badge holder. The badge holder will hold your Key to the World card.

Kyla - thanks so much for organizing this. i would have replied earlier, but I was in the mountains with no internet or cell service.

Is it too late to be added? We are a party of 4. We would be interested in lanyards or anything that you put together.

thanks

carrie

NOPE, its not too late. We are still playing around with the lanyard design. Hopefully, this is the last change. Did you want any badge reels with your lanyards? If so, how many? Also, please vote on the lanyard design, do you prefer A or E or any will be fine?
