July 28, 2007 - "Rome-ancing the Mouse Cruisers" -11 days! Part 2

Have to say its a case of history repeating itself, the 2005 repo had a couple of posters who went far to far, after warnings from the moderators, the thread was closed down and some Dissers 'left' and went elsewhere.

The whole point of these cruise threads are to make Friends and have an enjoyable holiday/ vacation. Sometimes jokes can go just a bit too far, and when posting you might not guess or understand someones reaction to your post.

Plus with not just people from USA but English and other counties whilst we speak a common language sometimes there are slight differences in words and humor and can accidentally be taken the wrong way.

It is so sad if people drop out, I must say in 2005, I did 'avoid' some previous Dissers who were on that cruise, I didn't think about canceling but i didn't want my holiday disrupted either.

I am glad we are a very very nice group.

WOW I'm completely gob smacked that people take things so far that they actually cancel a cruise. Also I'm shocked that folks actually go out of their way to be nasty to someone they've not even met. The thought of that really offends me and is way beyond my comprehension. I AM SO GLAD THAT NONE OF THAT GOES ON HERE. Being on this thread and 'meeting' all you people has actually made looking forward to this cruise really, really enjoyable.

THANK YOU TO ALL ON THIS THREAD

Wendy and I are booked w/dcl for La Cinta beach excursion. We could not decide between this one the other beach one. Big price difference, I could see if lunch was included. Originally I wanted to try to do this on my own but did not get much positive feedback at the time regarding cabs/taxis.

I was asking Julie if she had the beach all planned out for Barcelona. Taxi, close by, etc. Again, depending on how we feel, and it might be best to do something, we might get off the ship to do some exploring. I had not thought of beach being a possibility until Julie mentioned it.

You have not booked anything for Sardinia?

I am on the train trip, I want to do that, but must say been tempted to swap to a beach trip due to the heavy schedule of trips before and after.
DS and myself love trains, so I am still with that plus it ends at 3pm, so rest time on ship.

So true, sad and a shame. I agree with you, we have a nice group here. Different personalities and everyone respects each other. Just running into people we "know" makes it more fun, I think.:)

Yes we have a great group, I dropped out of the 2005 repo thread when a couple of posters went a 'bit' crazy, before it was closed down. It was a pity 1-2 caused it. and I noted a heavy presence on the 2008 repo thread by moderators, this time.

Now I might get air-miles from September booking my 2008 Trip so Dependant on that might be a cheap trip to NY.

I hope you get the miles- we would have a great time here-!!

PS just reconfirmed all our private tours with the operators.

In Rome their arranging for the Pope-Mobile for you to use so it doesn't blow off!

and the heliport at Pisa has been reserved so you can fly up the tower at 15:20pm instead of walk with us.

In Monte carlo, we will harness the power to get around the F1 circut in record time but you will pay for the speeding fines if stoped.

And special arrangements made at the perfume factory and the Chocolate and Jam factory in France!!

i had a sightseeing one booked, but I cancelled it as I want to get one swim in the Med. waters. I remember reading that the beach tours were not so great, so I figured we would try it on our own- I think Julie is doing that- I want to wait to hear from her as to what to do.

My kids can have a swim at Cassis in France it looks great.

OK so this my 500 post on this thread :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Are you serious Julie? People are not crusing because of the thread? It must be bad. What is going on? Just curious. I have never seen that in all the years that I have followed my threads and others. It's sad. It's so easy to take things the wrong way without seeing/hearing expressions in person sometimes - these side symbols help out a lot.

We are undecided about what to do once we check in at the port in Barcelona. We want to see how we feel. We should probably do something so we can stay up til eve. Are you taking a cab to a beach close by? Someone mentioned the tourtistic bus tour?

NEW YORK: If I had 1/2 more days I would have a stop over, its free on USA Airlines, breaks the jouney up and I want to go back to NY, kids havent been there, but with only a few days spare I think its UK planes direct.

OPEN JAW does cause problems for example I would leave London Heathrow, but come back to London Gatwick some 40 miles apart, so cannot use car, would have to use taxi or Trains, with luggage for a cruise an issue.

Didnt know that about the repo thread, I just felt I couldnt keep up with that one, when this one increased pace, here I do ketchup and can keep up witrh the discussion and current conversation, I couldnt keep up with both, and lost the repo ketchup, then felt I was out of the conversation / topic, so dropped out.

Spending too much time on diss now, iI try for two ketchups a day on this one, I was only on evenings (here) and hour or so, and weekends on the repo.

Hope they all make up!

Sorry I started something and then left -- the dogs wanted to spend some time in the park this morning, as it is really lovely here today.

Basically, the other thread had a website started, then people's email addresses were taken from that to get messages from another thread, so our website was closed. A few weeks ago two from the thread decided to try to restart it, with some security restrictions, and for some reason things went totally crazy. Andrew, yarnghnoj isn't going anymore, and Lisa said something to the extent of "I hope you all have a good time on this cruise" which I wasn't sure if it meant she isn't going, or she just doesn't wish to participate with those on the thread anymore. It was really upsetting, and reminds me of why I have always been so cautious about getting too involved with something like this.

Yes, I am so happy that I ended up on this cruise and this thread with all of you -- the Aug. 8 thread never really got itself together or felt like a group, and this one has been delightful. I have to go against my basic nature to get involved with a bunch of strangers like this (!) but I'm really glad in this case that I did.

Regarding the beach, from looking at maps there are several nice beaches at Barceloneta very near the port -- we will probably walk it, but I know there are taxis at the port as well. They are free city beaches, with lots of shops and eating places. I just thought it would be fun to do the afternoon before the ship leaves.

HI Anna and everyone- We definitely want to go to the beach in Sardinia- did you book a tour or are you going to take a cab?? I want to take a cab, but I am concerned with getting back on time- and I dont know which beach to go to- any suggestions???:confused3 :confused3

i had a sightseeing one booked, but I cancelled it as I want to get one swim in the Med. waters. I remember reading that the beach tours were not so great, so I figured we would try it on our own- I think Julie is doing that- I want to wait to hear from her as to what to do.

Regarding Olbia -- yes, we will go to a beach on our own, and at this point I am flexible as to where or how. I had done research and found Cala Sabina, which looks lovely and is accessible via train from the station near the port in Olbia. I read from some recent cruisers that some took a bus from the port directly to a beach with no problem, so I might ask about that once there. Finally, I am open to asking a taxi driver to take us to a beach and negotiate a price and pickup time, but if that doesn't seem reliable I could ask them to take us to Cala Sabina, knowing we could take the train back if they didn't show.

Congratulations, Izzi!!!!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2:

Thanks Julie ! Im going to play it by ear then when I get there... I like the bus idea, seemed more reliable than a cab- or at least - take a cab there and a bus back ?????

Yes, just find out where the bus leaves you, and if you want you can take the taxi there and the bus back . . . sounds good to me.

Stop rubbing it in!!!!!!!! I may just show up you know!!!!!

Me? Actually I was talking to other parents at work yesterday and when I said only one day at the beach and all thoose tours, they said poor kids, I was thinking of swapping the Train trip, but I will stick with this.

I have told them for Marseille today four only and more time at beach.

Aix-en-provence is only 20 miles, Cassis 13 miles so plenty of time.

Happy Bastille Day!
La fête nationale heureux!
