I've spent a summer in Ocean City.........the boardwalk............saltwater taffy......the Delaware line..................fishing for croakers and teaching my US friends to paddle (see below)

(PADDLING - this is a British term, I believe after much research the closest you have in meaning is wading, however in Britain if we were wading we would be in deeper water than if we were paddling, our paddling requires no oars or paddles although we do recognise this second meaning of paddling if we are in a canoe. Paddling in Britain is a summer activity often carried out in near freezing water, on a pebbley beach accompanied by various squeaks, screeches and groans. A hankerchief tried in knots in all 4 corners and placed on the head is considered appropriate headwear for this activity, swimwear is optional. Don't panic we don't do that clothing optional stuff here in Britain either, it's too cold! We leave that to our European neighbours, No what I mean is if we don't have our swimwear with us then men roll up their trouser legs and women tuck their skirts into their knickers, the use of any type of water shoe is frowned on as this would mean the infamous British stiff upper lip could not come into play!! This in considered by most to be a very enjoyable activity!!!
Taken from Lynn's Guide on how to look like a native and not a tourist whilst on holiday in Britain)

There were some great suggestions for alleviating jet lag (although I won't be taking Viagra:rotfl2: HeHeHe:rotfl: ) does anyone have suggestions for sleeping on a plane? DH bought noise cancelling headphones, do they really help? And how do people sleep sitting up:cloud9:

I was going to download videos or TV shows or movies but I don't think staying awake is the way to go, I've never been able to sleep on a plane.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

S
Aside from all the other things that have been mentioned....When I fly long distance like that, I set my watch ahead (as mentioned before by Andrew). If it so happens that the time I am setting it to would be bedtime for me, I take melatonin as soon as I am on the plane. I also drink lots of water 12-24 hours before my flight. Then when I am on the plane, I ask to have my water bottle that i have brought with me, filled up. Makes it easier than asking for tiny little cups.

The melatonin is a natural supplement that helps you sleep. it wont work for everyone, but it's not strong like sleep medicine. Of course, the other thing could be benedryl. When I take that I am knocked out fast. I also tried the non-drowsy dramamine, made me sleep too.

Hey, I'm a Mouseketeer now. And Lilly just changed my avatar to Mulan. So I've had a makeover.

S.

Congrats on the makeover.

I received a new promotional products catalog yesterday and it got me thinking about this: We already have our lanyards planned. I wonder if we could also have an online store with some products available for purchase with our soon-to-be banner artwork on them that we could receive BEFORE we leave ... like luggage tags, magnet clips, etc.

Brian

I think that is a great idea. I've seen other threads that have the same thing. No idea how to start it though, and we are running out of time. Especially if we want to get our merchandise in time to pack it for our trip.

(Doing the Cabbage Patch dance) Just received a phone call from our TA. Thanks to info here I asked her to check into switching us from our ressie 10 room to Cat. 12. We did and saved enough to buy a good used vehicle for DDs upcoming 16 bday! TA is not a DU rep (which we have used before with great success), so probably won't be as fortunate as Julie for CAT 5 room bump. But we are still on GTY status and that's a good thing.

Thank you, thank you to all my DIS friends here. You made our weekend!

Congrats - lucky dd.

My DH and I went on one of our first dates seeing this movie!

I don't want to date myself, but my parents took me to see the first Star Wars at the drive-in. I must admit I was probably asleep before .....'A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away..' I had just turned one and was still in diapers.

Just got back from POC. No celebrities here:-)

BTW - be sure to sit through the credits to see the final scene.

Oh - forgot about that - must ask DD if she did?

What no body up yet???

I'm busy loading the motorhome up. Weather is sunny - just hope it stays that way.. Please pray that we dont have wind!!! Its no fun driving and setting up in the wind!

:pixiedust: and more :pixiedust:

We'll be at the 12:40 show - My dd, Kelly, her boyfriend, my brother, and me. I have an extra ticket in case my ds comes, but if not - would you like to come down? This is the Annual Passholder event.

When we went camping to Sequoia, I actually took my laptop so I could upload pics. My kids, one of their friends, and I were in a disabled bathroom looking at them because it was the only one with an outlet. No internet, though. (probably a good thing)

*******

Here's a story about my stay in Spain (lived in Madrid for a year when I was in college)... My friends & I were talking, and this man came up to us & started yelling at us in Spanish, saying (translated, of course) "HERE WE DON'T SPEAK CATALAN! HERE WE SPEAK CASTILLIAN SPANISH!" The dialect is so different between the Catalan in Barcelona environs versus the main language in the country, he assumed that we were speaking Catalan. When we explained we were Americans & speaking English, he couldn't apologize fast enough.

Just a memory that kind of stuck in my mind.

Oh, here's another one --- My friends & I were in "Las Cuevas" in Madrid (really cool taverns near the Plaza Mayor), and we were speaking to a gypsy who spoke excellent English. We asked him how he spoke English so well, and he explained that he worked with tourists. "So what do you do?" we asked. He replied, "I trick them, and steal from them. Oh, but you don't have to worry. You live here, so you're one of us." :scared1:

We did meet some interesting people. :)

Hmmm....thanks for the offer. But am still trying to swing going to Vegas for a few days. (:lmao: )

The story about the bathroom - well - there are now cards (I have sprint card) that allows you to get online where there is no access) and I can see where I would be hogging up the bathroom if I had to too! Too funny! :)

"Bathroom Talk is too funny!" At least you had the patience to explain. I would have burst into

As for the Gypsy - :scared1:

When the first POC came out - I surprised my hubby with an anniversary gift. We got up early, had the neighbor watch the boys and get them to school (we were year round at the time). Then we caught a flight from OAK to Burbank, rented a car. Then drove to the El Capitain to see the film. We had lunch nearby before the movie. Then we caught a flight home in time to pick the kids up from school. It was so much fun.

You are too cool and romantic! I love your thinking. I tried to do this with DH when we were 'young' (kidnapp him and squander him off) and it went over his head. He asked - why are we here?

Hey, I'm a Mouseketeer now. And Lilly just changed my avatar to Mulan. So I've had a makeover.

S.

You cool young and hip! You'll fit in with the rest of us! :thumbsup2

(Congrats! )

Hey guys :)

I sent a pm to WMCricket - he's a wiz at graphics & stuff, and asked if he could come up w/a banner for us. Is there anything special you'd like to see? Ideas for him to work on?

Hey Mary Jo -

I think our boards will be VERY slow this weekend. I think there are some guidelines that we must follow. Something about bits. If you would like - you can go to the first page of the EB PC Repo for next year and on the first page is a post by LBgraves which gives the guidelines for the banners. Its actually quite interesting to see. You will know when you come to it when you see the same banner in 3 sizes. Be warned though - that first post is a doozy - almost like ours on page 1. :lmao:

How cute! She's a blue merle, I love her spotting. Our blue merle has a huge white mane and blue eyes.

/quote]

We have a blue merle border collie - 1 blue eye and 1 blue and brown eye; black and white with gray - serious case of ADHD - but, that's why you love them, right??

I was gone for a few hours and thought I'd need to set aside a few hours to get caught up, but no - you guys have been pretty quiet - preserving energy for the big weekend? Well, this is post 99 for me so, I'll

I'm in early stages of working on a banner, but welcome any help, and ideas. Andrew sent me the specs and link to the thread with banners in multiple sizes on Thursday. It's a little tricky to come up with just one size because whatever banner we have must be incorporated into your existing tag area.

I recall a Mickey bean bag in a toga - could be a start. I'll try to see if I find images.

Also - I found an image of a disney pin that featured Italy. Maybe there is a pin trader out there that can get the image?

I love the Mickey in a toga idea!!

I'm personally not a huge Star Wars fan - my DH and DSs are though. My daughter is a fastpitch catcher and her nickname is Maul because she has red gear and looks like Darth Maul with her helmet on. The other catcher's nickname is Vader - black gear and a sexy, husky voice. I'm on a roll here with posts - but I need to leave in a sec. I'm going to a wedding tomorrow and am in desperate need of a pedicure - so I'll check back later
Happy Friday and long weekend to all :woohoo:

need to milk it a bit to get to 100 :rotfl2:

Cooling - see you are no longer "earning your ears" Wasn't that you too last weekend? Pretty good - for me it took almost 4 months to get that darn thing off. ;)

Hey Brian - I thought someone had asked you. Your right - with everyone having something on their sig line, you'd have to come up with options. Also, do we have to follow copyrights on here too? Sorry to bring that up - but if we take an image off of a website - this may get us into trouble.

I know that for one - I have 2 banner already in there which takes me to about 29 of the 50 allowed. So maybe we can do something like the EB repo had and have different versions of it? Sorry to put this out there but I sure would love to display all my banners at least for a while. Then I'm gonna have to start deleting them as I go. :guilty:

 Bye Leslie - I have to go get my 'roots' :scared1: done - DD 14 told me get my dark roots taken care of before her party on Saturday - just so I wouldn't embarrass myself. :rotfl:

Can't figure out if I believe her or not. :lmao:

Gosh - its going to be another weekend of posting to myself. Guess I'd better get my housework done.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Naw - who'm I kidding! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
