Some reviews of El Corte Ingles store

http://www.virtualtourist.com/trave.../Shopping-Barcelona-El_Corte_Ingles-BR-1.html

You will find El Corte Ingles in all of the bigger Cities in Spain. In Barcelona alone there are 4 locations. I visited the location at Pl. de Catalunya at the head of Las Rambles. The grocery section of all El Corte Ingles stores can be found in the basement. This is a great place to go if you're looking to pick up some groceries for a picnic, need to grab a quick bottle of water or soda or just want to have a look around to see what they eat in Spain. You'll find everything that you need at reasonable prices here. Head upstairs to the ground floor and in most The grocery section of all El Corte Ingles stores you will find gifts, souvenirs, jewelry, perfume and sometimes toiletries. On to the first floor (second floor for those in the US) and above you will find clothes for men and women, sporting goods, luggage, a travel agent, etc... This place has everything and is very convenient.

You can buy just about anything that you need at El Corte Ingles from groceries to clothing, from luggage to airplane tickets and from Antonio Bandaras cologne to a snow globe with a bull in it.

Prices at El Corte Ingles are very reasonable. I prefer to go here to stock up on water for the day as the prices are much less expensive. For example, you might pay up to 1 Euro for a small bottle of water in a random shop in a tourist area. At El Corte Ingles you can pick up a large bottle for about .40 Euro.

:drive:-by posting - on my way to get chastised (AKA training session) We'll see how that goes - I'll be back on later.

Congrats was it LOVEBEAST??????? on your pirate:

Yes, I think it's one bag per family and about $15-$20. I think the idea is to exchange on our Sun morning Dis meet. I think we just put the place where the bag is from on the outside of the bag.

Anything I'm missing?

I have already picked out what I want to put in my bag!! I am so excited!!

What is the process for selection? Is it like dirty Santa where you draw for your turn, but can be taken 2x before being frozen?

that's funny, I have never heard it called Dirty Santa....I am sure it is the same, but we call it Chinese Christmas!!

If anyone is thinking about packing a case of water---just remember how much it will weigh!! You could put a lot of shoes in that suit case and they would weigh a lot less!!

Don't pack water.....way to heavy!!

I cant access my reservation at the moment -:confused3 I wonder if they are answering the email I sent on Saurday?

I cound not get mine this morning either.......

disney charged us $84 per person for airport-hotel-ship-hotel-airport. i felt more comfortable letting them handle everything.

We have Airport - Hotel - Hotel - Ship - Ship - Airport (so one less leg than you) amd oours we $59....I thought that was great!!

Not Sure where the supermarkets are but there will be.

You can be Liquor at the supermarket ( like in the UK)- dont think there are any requirements - just have to be over a certain age - 16 or 18 I think?

I was suprised when you couldn't but spirits in a supermarket in USA.

Virginia you can buy beer and wine.....but not hard liquor in the grocery. In Maryland.....you can buy nothing in the grocery.

Mary Jo, thanks for the information.

My pleasure.

I had the opportunity to live in Madrid for a year (school) over 20 years ago, and one of thing things that stands out in my mind was when a little lady told me, "El Corte Ingles tiene de todo!" (The English Court has everything!)

Them are the best - no one can then argue with you! :rotfl2: ;)

SORRY - Helen - I apologize :worship: :worship: I was in a hurry - I JUST KNEW I was going to get spanked - ::yes:: she only smacked me but that was enough - I feel like a naughty schoolchild.

OK TMI but I need a shower. So I'll be on later.

Again - Sorry! :worship: :worship: :worship:

Please forgive me - here's a :flower3:

man, i didn't think you were going to catch that. it was good to be a pirate: for 2 posts.

It is ironic come to think of it - the one place where people pray more than in church, yet don't have a prayer....

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

So True!!!

And they even dress better than Church - At least no 'holey' jeans can be seen there or spaghetti straps!

OK all - I MAJOR BLUNDERED.

DD-14 (incoming Freshman) was supposed to sign up for an Advanced Algrebra Exam at her high school. I, in all my infinite OCD, forgot to sign her up by May 1. Last night, DD gave me the look - :furious: so today - I called up - if I can expedite the paperwork - they will allow her to take the exam come June 2. (Anotherr $50 exam :scared1: )

Now, can't tell if they want the $$ or if they really like me. My older 2 kids went there and DS was...well....shall we say memorable. :rotfl2: However, I prefer to believe it was all the hours I spent in the snack bar that makes me memorable. ;)

So I'm off - play nice all - I hope I don't come back to 10 pages! ;)

Congrats to all those that got the Capt and Mr Smee - who's next? Hook?

Glad you and Former CPer can appreciate my humor - I was a bit worried that I had offended some people. . .

Well, I must confess I thought twice before posting my response. But then again, it wasn't me who named the airline. So all complaints can be forwarded to Richard Branson (I suspect he's heard them before)...

Yes I think at the moment its somthing like $1.98 to £1

Great for us though.

It's usually listed around the $1.98 however I send funds often to the UK to pay my DD's fees etc and the actualy rate is more like $2.03 unless you're sending funds in the 100,000's (that's what I've been told by our USA bank) I know that's only a few cents but when you're looking at amounts in the 1,000's it all adds up a few hundred $$'s!
We also travel often to the UK and Europe and have found that if you withdraw cash from an ATM the USA banks charge a commission on the withdrawal and and extra $5 service fee.

Thanks Wendyand Anna. We're really proud. Although long, it was a nice graduation. Went out to lunch with the family and now trying to catch up what I missed.

Maryann

Congratulation's on you're DS's Graduation!!
