Post Trip Report -- Day 1 Driving
Welcome everyone!
We left Friday, July 9th under a "mini" black cloud. The night or two before DH picked up some kind of bug and although I was in tank and shorts, he was in sweatshirt and sweatpants.

Thankfully it did not last and he basically sweated the sickness out of him.
Then on 7/9 in the AM, I had an appointment to get my toe nails done. When I got to the salon, I noticed a crack in the windshield about 5" (right where our state license stickers go). So we definitely wanted to get the windshield fixed.
DH found a place to get it done but it was about 45 minutes away and then we had to wait another 30 minutes. Turns out, the company would have come to our house

. If only DH asked, that would have saved us so much time ... b/c of course, DH hadn't really packed yet and we didn't get gas either.
But nonetheless, we were only 1 hr and 20 minutes late in getting started. I shouldn't complain ... I was just excited to get going!!

Darn!! something is wrong with my pictures, so I can't access them right now. I will make this update short and add more once I can post pictures. I also won't have our Disney photopass pics for another 2 weeks, but I'll update once I get those, too.
About 1 hour away from our house, we run into some bad traffic...turns out a SUV carrying a horse trailer got stuck in the middle lane and blocked traffic for about 8-10 miles.
Finally we are moving again and traffic is light. The girls have fallen asleep, DH is driving and I'm in the back with the girls talking.
We are enjoying our Smartphones since it gives us traffic and weather updates and has GPS to show us the route.
Then about 20 miles from our hotel, we hit a wicked thunderstorm -- can hardly see the car in front of us.
But we arrive safely in our Econolodge hotel in Kenly, NC. Once our SUV (we call it a truck) stops, both girls wake up. It's now 1am. Great!!
We settle into a ground floor room, do the Lysol spray thing and get ready for bed.
Both DH and I say, hey, this isn't too bad. We traveled about 273 miles in 4.5 hours = approx 60mph.
If we didn't encounter the traffic and storm and left earlier, we could have easily made it further. So for our next trip, we plan to try that...certainly one of those three factors we won't encounter again ... right??
