we are in trouble for the cruise....

my wife's grandmother is very ill, i think she is going to die, she is old and now she can't move in her bed and she doesn't want to eat, so that's why i'm worried about my wife, her grand mother and our dreams with the cruise.

maybe we are going to lose all our points and money, i don't know, but the principal thing is our dream and our desires to be there with disney.

I'm so sorry to read your news..... Sending you a special prayer from New Jersey..

Susan

dvcspain so sorry to hear about your wifes grandmother. Sending thoughts and prayers your way.

I'm not worried about Delta losing our luggage I'm worried about them losing us. While our luggage has always made it where were going and back home without a problem I can not say that about us. The plane we were to get on left early or something else happened and we were either stranded in Atlanta or rerouted to like Chicago to get back to Asheville. Hopefully none of that will happen this time.

Somehow we have 12 pieces of luggage. 2 checked bags each, 2 carry-ons each plus my little cooler for my insulin and bag of medical supplies. So wait thats more than 12 thats 14. We are going to look so funny with all that luggage and the worse part is that only the hanging clothes bag is full. Well at least they all fit inside each other. I think we may need lessons on how to pack.

Lissa:tinker:

Well since we are neighbors and in Salt Lake, our flights will be just about the same. We leave this Saturday and fly to Atlanta with a 3 1/2 hour layover. We could have taken a later flight and only had a 1 1/2 hour layover, but knowing what Atlanta can be like in the summer with storms, I didn't want to chance it, so I'd rather be sitting at the international gate than running from one end of the Atlanta airport to the other. Delta seems to be the longest run from one end to the other, especially when you are short on time. This time though, since we have so much layover time, we will probably be a hop, skip and a jump and not even have to get on the train! HAHA

From Atlanta we leave at 8:30 p.m. and go to Dublin, Ireland and land at 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Then we leave Dublin on Tuesday morning at 7:20 a.m. on a direct flight to Barcelona arriving at 10:40 a.m. Anyone else arriving Tuesday morning?

Mom and I are arriving on Tuesday morning and I'm a little nervous about that. I should have booked us in the day before to be safe but both Mom and I have pets (Mom has an older dog and cat, I have a deaf cat) and we didn't want to leave them that extra day. People who aren't pet owners think we're just crazy for making plans like that but oh well....pluto: :ccat:

I was able to make a little sign but nothing fancy...I have an idea for our gifts, just need to find time to get them but I seem to be spending my life driving up and down the I95 corridor from my house in N Va to Mom and kids in Richmond. Just returned last night from 5 days there as my brother flew in from Portland, Oregon to see Mom and my kids....this morning son in Richmond calls with big problem....can't get kids from day-care today because he and his wife just got conflicting schedules...so I'm back in the car this afternoon driving the hour and a half back down to Richmond. Sure glad I can find gas on the way for $2.65 gal. Grandson's B-day is Thursday so I guess I'll just stay and come back that evening and then I can start even thinking about what I'm gonna pack. "Last minute, Annie", that's who I am!!! :hippie: Reading about how so many of you are such planners has been getting me stressed....normally I just run out the door but not this time....thanks for all the help and tips....ordered Euros from AAA and wouldn't have even thought of that if it wasn't for the good chatter from this board. Looking forward to meeting you all.

I'm so, so sorry to hear of your sad news. I was looking forward to meeting you and your wife and hope that all works out and you can come with us.

A suggestion if you believe that you will lose all your points. I'm very new to these boards so I was looking through some of them and came to the one that said something about renting points. Asked my son-in-law (as I was staying with them in Richmond) and he said it was a board to sell your reservation if you suddenly can't go or to sell some points that you can't use. I don't know how it works but if you decide that you can't go, maybe this can give you some cash back. Can anyone else who knows more about this comment?

Very cool!

i'm planning to put my doorsigns in one of our suitcases - just put them in a heavy envelope with some cardboard or something to keep them from getting bent. And if they do get bent, oh well.

Kathie - I think that's the final list - we haven't had anyone else join in the last day or so, and I went back through and everyone except three have posted within the last month (then I got tired of looking backwards). So I think we're safe with the number on the list - I'm bringing enough for 36 families (not that it is anything really, but just for fun of it).

Oh - did we ever figure out FOR SURE which night is Pirate night??? pirate:

I will check my doorsigns in with my luggage on our flight over and then take them out the morning of the cruise and carry them on. They will run through security at the port just fine.

I counted 38 staterooms on the list, so I am bringing enough for 45. I will give a couple of the extra sailaway gifts I have to a couple of the CM's that I know

According to my list, Pirate's Night is July 25th. However, with the change of port days, it might change. However, DCL in Florida still has pirate night on the 25th. Just be flexible. It could change once we are on board!

Okay, work to do!

So my DH says this is a little extreme, but I actually read on the boards somewhere where someone actually lost ALL their luggage when going on a vacation, so what they do now is pack by day with everyone's stuff in that suitcase. So like, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday in bag 1, Wed, Thur, Fri in bag 2 and so on.

But this is the extreme part.

When they get to the airport, each person in the family checks in at the counter individually, each to a different check in person, so that all their bags are not tagged from one counter agent. Then if some counter agent screws up and tags the bag incorrectly, or some bag handler can't read that pulls the piece of luggage off the belt, that they only lose one bag instead of all 4 or 5. I thought it was a pretty good idea, my DH thought it was crazy for every family member to check in at the counter with a different agent.

One thing I do though, I always look at my luggage while they are tagging it to make sure that the tag says the right final destination. For those going to Barcelona, the code is BCN. Just double check when they tag your luggage that it is going to the right place. I think that is what happens more often than not, it gets tagged incorrectly.

Okay, now I am going to get some work done!

So: here's our Doorsign...

another six nights, and we're in Barcelona!

thank you all for your support and your prayers.

i hope we can go, maybe without gifts for you, maybe without excursions, i don't know but i hope to go.

i think i can't do that with the points because we are going to wait to the last minute to know if we can go or not, i don't know because my wife have to decide it if something happen, i think it would be good for her to go, to have a good time, to forgot that problems for a wile, but she has to decide it.

I'm starting to think we might not get a door sign now :sad1: I just can't find anyone who sells that magnetic stuff. None of our stationary suppliers have even heard of it. Shame, it sounds like a fun idea. Shaun

I had that problem too, but managed to find some on ebay. They only sell in packs of 5 or more, so we have a couple of spare sheets but I doubt it would reach you in time in the post. If you want you can email me a design jpg or pdf and I'll try to print it out for you and bring it with us?

Oh no. I'm so sorry. I know this is a difficult time. Do you have trip insurance? Our thoughts and prayers are with you all - does her grandmother live near you?

Sending loads and loads of pixie dust.........

Thanks to those that have offered to print door signs for us, it's really appreciated. However I've managed to find some magnetic sheet on eBay here in England now, and if they get here in time I'll get them done. If not, it's no biggie. Would be nice though....

Cool. Hope it works! Ebay rocks...

Okay, it's lunchtime here.

I'm headed to the AAA office to purchase an international driver's license because we are renting a car from Barcelona to Madrid after the cruise. Then picking up my Euros!

Okay, two more things to check off my to do list today! And it's only Tuesday. I am doing so well. I should definitely be ready to go by Saturday morning! YIPPEE!:cool1:

This has got to be the longest week since we booked the trip. I'm ready to go not sure how I'm going to make it till monday. On the down side we are having some bad weather here. Just had what we are pretty sure was a tornado go thorugh and they are expecting the weather to get worse as the day goes on.

I tutor 4 kids at a special school for homeless kids one afternoon a week & I've promised each of them that I will bring them back something from the country of their choice from this trip. What have I gotten myself into?! I have no idea what kids their age would like from Europe! Any ideas on what I should be on the look-out for?

Any suggestions appreciated! :)
