July 15-22 2006 Western Anyone?

I can't believe we leave a week from today! Our flight is 7 am next Monday. I have much to do between now and then. I was going through my camera stuff when dh suggested that I get a new digital camera, one that's small. The one I have is a Sony Mavica and I love it but it is big, it uses mini cd's instead of memory cards so the camera is big for that reason. It takes great pictures but it does get bulky. I guess I might just go a look tomorrow - like I didn't have enough to do already. :confused3

Oh well. Better get to bed - I took tomorrow off so I could get all the last minute shopping taken care of.

Oh yes - I can't believe how active you've all become posting!!! I will be unable to check the boards next week, I'll probably miss all kinds of good stuff. :guilty:

Hi Everyone!
I have been quietly lurking here reading everyone's posts and getting increasingly excited along with all of you. :woohoo:

We are leaving on the 14th and staying at the Beach Club in Disney. We were there over Thanksgiving last year and decided to stay there again and make use of the Magical Express and their bus to the port. We also had 1 day left on our "pass cards to the World" so the kids can get a quick fix of the Magic Kingdom and/or Epcot. My 8yr DS has this whole schedule of things he wants to do in that one day!

Is anyone ordering anything from Shirley and if so, when do you call her to place the order? I think I read somewhere that she'd rather we call the week before our cruise?
Thanks! :sunny:

I promise I will never tell. I think that is a great idea to go with a girlfriend. I may have to let DH take the kids and I will go with the girls!!! :woohoo:

There you go!!! See, us girls have to check it out first to be sure it is appropriate for our children. It is our duty!!! What a great parent you are.

Can't believe it is July 3 already. Please let the time slow as we board the ship!!

We leave on July 13 for the drive down. DD10 was suppose to have dance camp that week, but not enough girls signed up. So, we may leave about noon instead of 6:00 pm. That will allow us to get to Cape Canaveral earlier in the day, to perhaps enjoy some beach time.

By the way, it is 9:10 pm, and the Magic is still at Key West! There is hope for sunset at Mallory Square yet.

I really, really wish we were driving. I need a drink just thinking about the flight! :drinking1

Although I will not let myself be convinced that it will stay that late in two weeks. But it will be a nice surprise if it is.

Wow, that is great news!! I would love it to stay that late. I really want to check out Key West in the evening.

I went to sleep early last night....sore throat that came on so quickly, it had to be something in the air. I took Zycam, NyQuil and went to bed in hopes that it will not turn into a cold. I feel better this morning, but I am taking the zycam still. I cannot afford to get sick now. Anyway, I had wondered when the Magic left Key West since I did not get to look again after 9.

Oh, you are so lucky. Only a week for you!!! Wow. So you really are in the "must get packed" stage. I am waiting for that time. I have done all I can LOGICALLY do. I will be excited when I hit the week mark on Saturday.

Have fun shopping for a camera. There are so many out there that it can be so confusing as to what is the best. Good luck.

I have heard a lot about Shirley. I have heard nothing but good things. I wonder too when she prefers orders. I have thought about that for my son, who will be having a birthday, but have not gotten far enough in thought with it. I better get on the ball if I plan on doing it.

Have fun at WDW. That is nice to have that time to do it before the cruise. If I were an 8 year old, I would not be able to contain myself. :cool1:

I bought a new camera last week. I had a Sony Cybershot DSC-P50 from 2001. It has been through a lot, including a couple of drops. It allowed the use of rechargable aaa batteries, but I was getting tired of carrying all extra the batteries around. So I got a Sony Cybersot DSC-W70. I am still learning how to use it, but I have the basics down. It is so much smaller than the old camera, so I will probably carry it with me more.

I stayed at the the Beach club in November also its great.
I ordered from Shirley for the first time I read so many great things so I figured why not. One week from Thurs and we will be on our way :woohoo:

:Pinkbounc My My My My My! Everyone was busy posting yesterday!!! To answer a couple questions:

We fly out Friday at 3 and land about 7:30 (lose one hour) and then we are taking a van to the Residence Inn so should get there around 8:30/9'ish :cheer2: I'm sure we'll be too hyper to sleep :hyper: :hyper: :hyper2:

We'll bring our walkie-talkies too.

I showed my DH the Magic at Key West yesterday. :bounce: He said:"but it's not doing anything :surfweb: " :rotfl2:
He acts grumpy but he is getting almost as excited as me. he even bought the 3 boys pirate costume (although I'm sure my 12 year old middle-schooler is much too cool :sad2: for a costume)

Terri :wave2:

I'm trying to decide whether to order from Shirley or to do something on my own. I think all of my creativity as gone out the window at this point. Was it expensive ordering from her? I just wanted to do something special for the kids but I have spent soooooo much money already. What I really need to do is just stay out of the stores from now until the cruise. YEAH RIGHT!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Does anyone know how far the 24 hour Ron Jon's surf shop is from the Radisson at the Port?

We were thinking of checking it out, but aren't renting a car for our time at Cape Canaveral.

While I'm on the subject.......can anyone tell me what things are close to the Radisson...like restaurants, etc within walking distance?

Thanks so much!!!!

The Radisson is about 3 miles from Ron Jon's. Maybe the Radisson has a shuttle that will take you there.

The Cocoa Beach Pier has shops and restaurants but that is about 2 miles. I'm not sure what is right around the hotel. We usually do day trips over there to go surfing and we always park around Ron Jon's.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

My husband is really cool about it too, but this morning we were talking about the shuttle and I said that I hoped they didn't wait till the day we cruise, because I am already worried about getting there since we are flying in the same day. He agreed with me. See, he tells me I worry too much. The only difference between me and him is that I worry openly. What can I say. :confused3

My mom and my aunt are house sitting for me while we are gone. I cannot figure out how I am going to get this house cleaned the way I would like, so it is ship shape for them. (no pun intended) There is so much to think about, but it is fun and exciting.

As the drunk blacksmith said, "Jjjust dddoin mmmy cccivic ddduty."

Sorry, it came to mind, and I had to say it. What can I say, my kids are home and I am going crazy.

I just discovered this site and I have been reading all the posts and getting very excited for the crusie. I'm a bit concerned that my children may be too old for the cruise. My son is turning 16 on the cruise and my daughter is a few months shy of 13. I hoping they will let her take part in the teen activities on the ship. The age group 7-12 seems so broad. 7 is quite different from 12. We haven't booked anything because we heard its cheaper to do it on your own. We're basically looking at the beaches. Must we book Palos brunch, high tea, tea with Wendy ahead of time? Does anyone know if these activities fill up? Anyone have kids the same ages as mine? Both of my children are rather shy, but a lot of fun once they open up.

Welcome TandD!!! Glad you found us. In my signature, you will see a link for our Cruise Home page. Check it out to see all the cruisers who have checked in. The Lab is broken down into two age groups, 8-9, and 10-12. I will have my DD10 send your DD12 a private message.

You will need reservations for Palo. When you check in at the port, they will tell you where you can go to get the reservations. Most of the reservations have been booked already (you can book on-line 75 days before the cruise), although it is rumored they hold reservations back.

The Tea with Wendy is geared more towards the younger kids (my DD10 said she still wanted to go, but I think 12 might be getting too old). You get tickets once on board. Check with Guest Services as to when the tickets are available.

After my DD10 is done with the computer, I will add your family to the home page.

Welcome!! I do not think you will have anything to worry about with your children. Disney seems to have plenty for everyone. My children are 10, 14 (turns July 13), and 18. They are all boys.

We have not booked anything either. This is our first cruise, besides little jaunts to nowhere, so we are going to wing it a bit. Key West seems to have a lot to do, and many people suggested taxis to me as far as getting around Cozumel and Grand Cayman.

I am not totally sure about the other answers to your questions. I do know that brunch will have to be booked onboard. I would like to do that too.

Hope to see you at the Dis meet. This is a great group of people.
