I just checked and in every one of our 6 stay situations, our point requirements went up. They all include weekend stays of one day.

I'm going to have to sell at least one small contract and buy back into another larger one to make up the difference. What a huge disappointment this is.

At the moment, I don't feel inclined to buy more points. Pressured, yes, but not inclined. I think that may be (at least in part) the point of this "rearrangement" - inducing current owners to buy more points. And right on the heels of a point cost increase, to boot.

DisFlan

yes you are correct.

that say they raised BLT points - and BLT is not even opened - that we (BLT members) could probably sue over. We can't even make a reservation yet.

don't think even Disney can do this.

lots of us brought enough points for a studio and now we need more - and guess what if you need more - you MUST buy a 100 more points. that is not right. think the courts would be on our side - well could hope they would. definitely sounds to me like DVC is using this to get DVC members to turn over more money.

Now if the new point chart was the first one out - then no problems - it was NOT.

Perfect post. Right on the money. They knew this was coming before they released that 2009 point chart.

Dontcha just love the 100 point min. Egads :grouphug:

That's exactly why I cancelled my add-on. If they are hoping members will just fork over more money - it's backfired in my case. I really think they are miscalculating the value of their product. The point requirements for GCV are ridiculous. 46 points for a 1 bedroom in Magic season? 390 points for the week? So about $40,000 for that many points - plus about $1600 per year in MF - for a 1 bedroom!! There is a point at which paying cash is way cheaper than plunking down that kind of cash. $40000 can buy a LOT of hotel nights.

right now the point charts DEFINITELY uses more standard BLT studio views then it did last year.

at home tonight - when I can think a better way to do it - will get back to you on Monday.

unless one of you beats me to it.

I'm pretty upset in these changes. Even though at this point, it has worked to my advantage, i.e. AKV - Standard Studio for one week in early June is 99 points for 2009 and will be 91 points in 2010. BUT, it still bothers me that at anytime they could make such drastic changes like this. Yes, I know they can do so per the terms of their Contract. I understand that part. But, good grief, with the way the economy is and everything . . . they keep putting it to us. :sad2:

OK ... there is something very fishy going on here. I wanted to see how the points were changing in each season for my two home resorts. I started with AKV and I entered the 2009 points and the new 2010 points into a spread sheet. Here it is:

http://personalpages.tds.net/~rb/DIS/DVC/AKV2009-2010-Charts.htm

I marked all the times when points went UP in red and when points went DOWN in green. As a "double-check" on my numbers, I added up the weekly points in each season and compared the total number of points for 2009 with the total number of points for 2010. They *should* be the same, right? Well, they are NOT. There are fewer points used in 2010 :confused3.

ETA: I triple checked the weekly totals and they are OK on my spreadsheet. I don't think I made a mistake.

If I'm reading your post right what you need to take into account is the number of rooms of each size and "type/view". To keep the math simple if they raise the nights of all 1-br by 2 points, but decrease the studios by 1 points on all nights, it equals out if there are twice as many studios as 1-brs.

Not saying it's fair, unfair, or anything like that, just the way it is.

Robin - I just pasted your sheet into excel and redid the formulas...are you coming up with 2010 being 64 points less than 2009? That's what I got (although I've never added all the points up before, so I think I'm doing this correctly.)

I thought it did not matter how many of each room type there were, that the points were overall :confused3

Right it's the points overall.

So per night, if all the 1-brs go up by 2 points and there are 100 1-brs at akv (just using simple numbers) that's a 200 point increase per night for the resort. If there are 200 studios and they go down by 1 point each that's a 200 point decrease per night for the resort.

Net point change = zero.

OK ... I think I understand what you're saying ... I did not take into account HOW MANY of each unit there are in the resort. If I multiplied the weekly sums by the number of units then the 2009 and the 2010 numbers would be the same. Thanks for the reality check :wave2:.

YOU RULE !!! Oh I am the Happiest Camper on the planet right now. I usually go up to WDW for 2 - 3 weekends per year (living less than a 3 hour drive) away and my DVC was only going to stretch to 2 w/e. If this stays "as is" it looks like I'll be able to do much more travelling. And, my siblings will love it too. :)

No problem. :wave2:

Yeah, I think that where it looks skewed because they wanted to raise the points of the 1-brs (along with weekday/weekend changes etc) due to the popularity of the 1-brs. Other things thrown in is that AKV Concierge was increased due to the changes, as well as the first two weeks of December at VWL due to the popularity/demand. When you factor all these changes in and that there are unequal numbers of studios/1-brs/2-brs/etc and then throw in the "type/view" of room, the spreadsheet can look a little off.

The only thing Disney has to keep equal is the total number of points required for the resort for the year when you factor in "seasons," room size, "type/view", etc. After that it's fair game.

Thanks for posting the JPEGs. It was most helpful for me and good of you to take the time.

I've always heard that 1 bedrooms are the easiest to book. Many families of 4 would rather book a studio than pay double points for a 1 bedroom for the same number of occupants.

I always thought the yearly points total for a "unit" had to remain the same. I didn't think they could spread the points among the room sizes.

Ugh! Playing with the points, is like playing with my emotions, MAN!! :headache:

Back to the planning board. ;)
