Well...My 2 cents:
I used to like this show, thought it was very cute, they were first off, a normal family. (With lots of kids..of course.) But every time I watch I get LESS and LESS interested. I am sure TLC or these companies pay them to go places and blah blah blah. But it's not reality tv anymore its a commercial for these vacation spots of these little places to take your kids. Kate is so Anal, I don't know how ANYONE ENJOYS themselves. And the organic thing is a joke, b/c on more than one occasion I have seen McDonalds cups on the kids nightstands. (????) Which leads me to believe that Kate is quite "showy" like " I buy organic b/c I am better than all of you parents that don't" I would rather feed my child a balanced diet than worry about feeding them organically. Poor Mady, is just overlooked as the "whinner" child. When she could really use More attention. She is a needy child, some adults are more needy than others. Instead of rolling her eyes and blowing her off, Kate needs a different tactic with Poor little Mady. She's constantly trying to mold John into something other than what he is..why not just love him for who he is right now? It's annoying. Like when she was screaming at her sister in law Jody for letting the kids chew gum. JEEZ, if i was Jody, i would have been on fire..how many hours of FREE babysitting do you think this woman has given Kate and John? ALOT, and I am sure ALOT more than I am even counting and then to have Kate call me up and freek out like that??!!!! It's gum, and then the worst telling her little boy she was going to throw his snuggle away b/c he got gum on it!!!!!!!! He was 3 at the time!!! I don't know, Like I said, I don't watch much anymore, b/c I feel it has gotten very unrealistic, more like a commercial and well..85% of the reality has been taken out of it.

There was another family on TLC tonight with 16 kids. I think their name was Dugger? The mom is cheery and remarkably calm and giggly. Dad is also calm and cool. He kisses mom. They smile warmly at each other. There were no signs of tantrums. No whining from kids or parents. They live in a 7000sq ft home that they literally built themselves (it was mentioned that TLC added some finishing touches). I have seen them on TLC before (this episode was about going on vacation). And I seem to recall reading or hearing that they have 17 kids now. They have double the kids of J&K (only twins-no larger groups of multiples). So why do you think people love to talk J&K rather than the wholesome Duggers? I think once a friend mentioned this family to me-and it was "Did you see that family that came on after J&K?" Why do we love (or love to hate) J&K so much more?

Their kids range from ages of like 17 to 4 (just an estimate) I have seen one show with them which showed the older children taking care of the younger children.

They seem like a great family, but I don't think you can compare a family with kids of all ages who "take care" of the younger kids with a family of multiples.

People do like to talk about the Duggars, but not as much as J&K. I think it's because the Duggars are too perfect. Most people cannot relate to how calm and tranquil everything is all the time. Also, there is no juicy drama with the Duggars. J&K certainly make their own excitement.

Well at least not until recently anyway. I read what was on Josh and "J"Anna's registry list, after all. ;) There was quite a bit of discussion about that.

Are you kidding? The Duggars have been talked about over and over on this board. There was just a long thread a few days ago about the oldest getting married. I mean those threads get really, really nasty. DO a quick search on Duggars and DIS and you can see all kinds of nasty threads from everything about how the older kids raise the younger ones to the fact that they are considered a church for tax breaks.

The Duggars have been discussed many times, its just there are very few on the side of the Duggars so the threads die quickly.

The Good Housekeeping thing is a damage control article by the PR person. It'll be a fluff piece

I hope it's an ORGANIC FLUFF piece!!! (omg I crack myself up!!! :rotfl2: )

Omg...the Duggers are very disturbing with their Stepford kids and their Buddies.

To the PP who complained about Kate trying to "mold John" into what she wants....tell me who doesn't do that with their husband? :confused3 I love my husband but there are things that drive me crazy and I would love it if he would quit doing them. Not that I've been successful, but I'll continue to gently push him into the direction I want him to go!! ;)

Did anyone watch the special on TLC tonight (I think it was tonight as I watched it on dvr) about the family of 17 children. All natural from one mother/father. Oldest looked like was 32 all the way down to 4yr old. And they were a "typical" family.

The Duggars? Or the other family that was featured in the late afternoon. I hadn't seen them before.

oh, I have no doubt about that. I never thought for a second that it would be a two sided article.

I don't see how there can be any interview/article that tells the whole story. How can there be? There's the JK8 side, the production side, and everyone else. Since the production people have (likely) signed confidentiality agreements or want to keep their jobs, they won't be talking ... which leaves JK8 & everyone else. They each have their own side of the story to spin. And personally, I don't or won't believe 100% of what anyone involved says, any more.

The Duggars are old news.... they've been around since they've had 14, 15 kids? She's pregnant with number 18 and the oldest is getting married soon ... :rotfl:

The Duggars have their fair share of fans & anti fans, make no mistake about that. ;)

The organic thing is really a joke. Kate definately just think that saying makes her sound like a caring mom. Those kids would be better off if she didn't worry about feeding them organic and she popped a Xanax every so often. I'm sure that the kids would be happier if their mom wasn't being absolutely insane all time and they were eating a little more junk.

I have read many articles and seen many bits on TV about how the organic think is blown out of proportion. I will have to search for the articles or actual facts, but to label a product organic, the FDA doesn't require very much. It just means no pesticides on vegetables or something....so basically the Hostess Company could label Twinkies organic if the wanted. It is really silly. Kate need to try to BE a good mom rather than sounding like one. She should have taken lessons from Jodi.

I do agree with this. I've always gotten the vibe she thought she was better than everyone else by throwing the organic food thing around. Like she cares about her family for than I do mine. I know someone IRL that tries to do the same thing. I buy some organic ... like milk. My family prefers the taste of the organic milk. I'm still doing research to see if it truly, really makes a difference in the grand scheme of things. I think organic is the catch-phrase of the moment, just like a couple of years ago, when every company was making a "light" or fat free version of their products. There's always a fad....

edited to add: I don't mean that to sound the way it does. I know organic shopping is very important to some people - but, it's a popular trend right now. That's what I mean... not that it's a trivial thing. Because it isn't.

She's constantly trying to mold John into something other than what he is..why not just love him for who he is right now? It's annoying.

I don't see her molding him into something as much as she just bosses him around a lot. And he takes it. What we're shown on TV is that they don't treat each other very kindly ... who knows if that's what goes on when the cameras aren't rolling?

That is untrue.
