I dunno. There is such a difference to me between, "Kids, let's make a chocolate cake!" and the day to day chore of putting dinner on the table. If you had someone to make the rest of the meal, you could, for example, concentrate on making the perfect homemade bread.

but when your kids are older, in college ... when they come home for a visit and ask you to fix their favorite meal? It really wouldn't be your cooking, it would be someone else's that they're asking for. I still love to go home and have my mom's cooking - and I'm 40!

my kids love to help me fix supper every single day... and they aren't little, either.

now if I could get someone to come in and dust, so I could cook? Or clean up after I've cooked? NOW you're talking ...

With a busy law practice, three kids and a stay at home husband who doesn't think cooking is in his job description, I myself wonder what, if anything, my own kids will request when they come home from college. Panda? Papa Murpheys?;)

:rotfl:

My kids will definitely request that DH cook. By some fluke (or careful manipulation ;) ) I have convinced my family that I am a rotten cook, despite the fact that I cooked for the first 15 years of our marriage and no one died.

As a matter of fact, DH took the day off from work to cook a turkey dinner for DD - who is turning 8 today.

My mom was a very traditional SAHM who cooked for us every darned night..we hardly ever ate out. Do you know what I requested when I came home from college? Kraft boxed spaghetti. I loved the sauce.

Of course now, if I can get over the guilt, I now request her chocolate fudge cake. It's a from scratch buttermilk chocolate layer cake, and the frosting is actual fudge that you pour over the cake when it's still warm. The best cake ever.

I have no doubt my oldest will request Papa Murphy's when he comes home from school. :rotfl: In spite of my cooking all these years ... that's his favorite meal that I "make" :lmao:

Now, as for the crab and shrimp......I think it is really great that J and K expose the kids to all different kinds of foods as we see in the show, but man, they worked hard shelling all that crab...I know they said it was a special treat, but I'd be doing hot dogs for the kids and saving the crab and shrimp for me and my DH! ;) I'm a little bit of a crab-hog-aholic! Yum, yum! :flower3:

I agree with you! But, can you imagine the beating Kate would have taken if she had given the kids hot dogs and she and Jon had eaten the seafood!!!! :cool1:

I am not sure how much I am upset by the deception if Kate has help behind the scenes. I think a lot of shows do this-don't shows like Trading Spaces has "extra" help that we don't see?

Of course if I had to stand at the school bus stop and listen to Kate say, "Here is your organic lunch" 8x's. I would want to scream. (I would be saying "here is your additive filled factory produced Lunchable " or heaven forbid "your cold pizza left over from last nights delivery"-my ds's favorite!)

:rotfl: ITA. I'd be tempted to say, "Here is your bag of twinkies and candy" just to get a reaction from her.

One time Kate made reference to the only type of candy she'd feed her kids would be organic lolly pops. Are there such things?

Wow. Who knew? Well, I guess Kate does. :lmao:

LOL..... IMHO Newman's Organics makes absolutely the best "Oreo" cookie. The hint o mint is to die for.

I also think that the Annie's Cheddar Bunnies are much better than Goldfish or cheese its etc.

Now if only someone would come up with an alternative to crunchy cheetos that taste as good.

But is organic candy truly better for you than regular?

They're not crunchy, but we all love the Frito Lay Natural White Cheddar Cheese Puffs...my kids don't care for any other cheese puff/curl anymore and no more orange fingers!

As for organic candy, we just try to find things that have eliminated high fructose corn syrup which I am reading is in everything and is just so unhealthy.

IMHO yes, but of course in limited amounts. Too much "junk" is still too much junk even if it is all natural/organic.

DD is very sensitive to food additives, especially artificial coloring. Blue being her biggest problem. You would be shocked at how many things have food coloring in it. I've found a lot of "chocolate" has blue in it to enhance the natural brown color. I believe oreos have blue food coloring. Recently found that one of the granola bars that used to be safe for DD now has blue food coloring in the chocolate chunks. I believe it was quaker.

Wouldn't even realized it except that one of DD's friends was bored and started reading the ingredients in the van. I had just given some out to all the girls in my van while we were carpooling home form a field trip.

Incredible. Would oreos and chocolate be so gross that no one would buy them if they didn't add the blue coloring? I doubt it.

I just don't care for the puffy ones. Robert's American Gourment snacks are pretty good. I just checked their website. They now have something called Pirate Swords that sound like they might be crunchier. Their pirate booty and cannon balls are too puffy for me.
